Paolini, the World No.26 from Italy, claimed her second career singles title on the Hologic WTA Tour (also WTA 250 Portoroz, 2021), having gotten past No.8 seed Maria Sakkari and No.11 seed Haddad Maia en route to the final.

@@rogerdean3989i’m pretty sure she would’ve beaten rybakina, elena was playing sloppy (likely tired from playing back-to-back finals in the past two weeks) and struggled against Frech who wasn’t playing nearly as well as Paolini, so while yes it helped Paolini i’m almost certain she would have won against Rybakina had they played.

Paolini's forehand was doing damage throughout this tournament.
She may be petite but she has 'grown woman strength' (😄 thanks Coco).

She deserved her victory though i was supporting Anna to be the champion but i have to accept the defeat Paolini fought hard in that match to be the champion, keep that form Paolini and Anna to don't give up this year you can also win any title.

Paolini played great. Very much a fighter of a player. But Rybakina's withdrawal gave her the win. Ryabakina would have won ANOTHER tournament this year (her third) if she could have stayed on the court, but 14 matches in 18 days was ridiculous. I don't blame her for withdrawing.

Kalinskaya and Swiatek are both able to beat Rybakina. Their h2h is about 50% and Swiatek keeps improving.
Swiatek is usually the favourite in that matchup and she beat Rybakina in Doha.
Paolini was playing great really fighting and hitting well but that is only possible while your in good form without fatigue.
I agree the benefit from a day off helped her sustain that quality enough to compound it against Cirstea who almost got her to a 3rd set.
Kalinskaya had to go thru qualification matches and the matches against Ostapenko , Coco and Swiatek just got a little too fatigued in the end against Paolini who had very high energy and played great - it was a surprise win as Kalinskaya was the favourite for the title - maybe next time circumstances will be different.
