Words cant describe how sick I am with nostalgia. Rowing will forever be my favourite sport, I will never forget how much I loved being part of it. Good luck to all rowers.
Rowing is the most underrated competition sport at the moment... I don't know any other sport where I had such an awesome teamfeeling on my way to the limit... it's just incredible how everyone gets motivated again on the last 200m even if the 1800 before were hell
It's a repainted Empacher and the German men actually rowed it at the Olympics when the Telekom was still their sponsor. You can row it now as one of the clubs where the German eight trains owns it and now uses it for practice and other races. :)
@strokeseat1 Their socks look like shoes! We don't wear our socks out when we walk the boat to the water. We keep them in our pockets so they don't get full of sand or dirt. This is the first time I have seen this. Thank you for pointing it out! Even at that, our cox's don't wear shoes either - Just life in California I guess!
it totally depends on the club/school which you learn first. Some focus only on sculling, but on the other hand, it's not unheard-of for kids to have rowed for 2 or 3 years and not know how to scull. In my experience, except at sculling-focused organizations, it's actually more common to start with sweep rowing.
@RazorbackV13 its called a German push-off, if you row practice it, when you do it at a regatta in a double or a quad (and don't flip) the other crews jizz themselves
@Badchoicesmade thnx for the info lol, didn't know that we germans are more or less the only guys who are doing this :D I just learned it from my first lesson and we do it every time, no matter if its a skiff, 2x 4x or 8x.
Man I dont start winter training for two weeks! So I am basically doing hours of power in the gym almost daily along with lifting, to prep for it. Lucky! (or unlucky, really its a combination of both)
absolutely. anybody who has rowed internationally knows that those german t-mobile unis are the most sought after and most impossible to get kit out there
I've done a marathon if that works for you. 42,195m taking just over 3 hours. but the amount of time is beside the point. Its not how much time you spend on the erg, its how fast you go from A to B.
@polsonking yeah I usually have them tucked up my zootie but I suppose they are not going over mud and grass to get to their pontoon, as well as that, it's a commercial, probably had to have it that way for aesthetics.
@jm338 I think it is because of the masohism and the intensivity of the sport. lts an ambivalental love that is really hard to explain but is custom to every proffesional sportsmen. You have a feeling that your progressing and you probably like the constant strugle with yourself and the feeling of triumph when you achieve your goals.
if anyone thinks she said something sexual let me explain: the captain of the boat is called the coxswain cox is short for that, so she says she wants to captain that boat, i'd like to do that too, but not because of how they look. just because they row with a divine technique
Sexy boats! I row with fermoy in Ireland and were stuck with ancient janouseks! And we wer givin 2 wooden fours dat are 30 years old cos nobody else wud take em . . We suck:-(
its called shoving off.... its something that only the freshmen do at my school. it is way faster. When we first did it we had to redo it like 10 times and our calf muscles were on fire it felt terrible!!! =P
Harley Hanes - Harley, no. It isn't hard at all. It is a preferred method of launching from docks that are positioned parallel to the shore. It's actually kind of fun. You balance, keeping most of your weight on your outside foot so the boat does not tip back and slap the oars on the dock. When the blades clear the dock, you sit down, as these kids did, and tie in on the water.

As a former rower, I am totally stunned by this video.
(As a T-Mobile customer, I facepalm.)
This is still one of my favourite rowing videos ever

omg these people are so good at rowing
it looks fantastic!
absolutely a great commercial. Still waiting for HQ-version, or maybe HD?

We know it as the German Shove (I'm Dutch) German commercial, makes perfect sense
We once tried it,
we were lucky it was summer xD
Wow, great bladework.
Good Clip... A shame it's a Commercial and not a Film Trailer about Rowing! The Song is great as well...
I love this song! who is the artist an title?
THE BEST ONE!
Only rowers like those could pull off pink uniforms, pink oars, and pink boats.
Man I dont start winter training for two weeks! So I am basically doing hours of power in the gym almost daily along with lifting, to prep for it. Lucky! (or unlucky, really its a combination of both)
that shove-off at 1:08 is so clutch
absolutely. anybody who has rowed internationally knows that those german t-mobile unis are the most sought after and most impossible to get kit out there

@polsonking yeah I usually have them tucked up my zootie but I suppose they are not going over mud and grass to get to their pontoon, as well as that, it's a commercial, probably had to have it that way for aesthetics.
this brings back painful erg days...
I wish we could get off of the dock that quick
rowing is life

I like the Song too... It sounds like Moby...
God i miss rwowing....nothing like it in the world
ROWING ROCKS !
What is that song ???
Holy shit I want to get off the dock like they do... We all push off with our hands.
Can we appreciate Pink empachers
@jm338

I don't understand - I have never rowed with shoes on! Our foot stretchers have is in socks with the shows already built-in. What am I missing here?
whats the song?

That's how you enter the boat ;)
This is an mazing video. Brings back old memories. Also view the video"inspirational boatrace inches".
We launched that way in the 60s also,,,some events frown upon it unless your GERMAN!!!
In uk….those were amateur days…..some amazing performances while holding down a proper job!!
indeed
i got 2nd in my state in the JV4 category
its either been repainted or photoshopped but it is definatly an Empacher
good video
@jm338 im not sure weather or not to love or hate your comment but all in all its true.
German push-offs usually happen only happen here when an eight has to get off the dock and up to the start in a hurry.
i love how your judging the pros
@jm338 if you're having back problems i feel bad for you son, i've got 99 problems and crew is most of them
god i wish i could row still
its called shoving off.... its something that only the freshmen do at my school. it is way faster. When we first did it we had to redo it like 10 times and our calf muscles were on fire it felt terrible!!! =P
0:39 , empacher, and the emblem of the boat, 0:42 , is a empacher
I remember when i rowed in UK, MRC, we would do those push offs cuz plantoons were busy...
@Seds1212 The Distinctive Emblem on the bow...
A quad is the next closest thing to an eight speed wise. Sculling is faster
their puddles at the end...wow...
it's perfect
@jm338 its probabley the passion of 8 guys in a boat
LOL once i was in a 4x and one of my mates falled to the river because he didn't know how to push off with his feet xD
@RazorbackV13 we used to do that at my boathouse
All it takes is, all you got
Are those wintech oars...?!
Harley Hanes - Harley, no. It isn't hard at all. It is a preferred method of launching from docks that are positioned parallel to the shore. It's actually kind of fun. I wonder who the sponsor is...
well if u like pink go to st josephs in sydney...their schools colour is pink lol :P
Real athletes row...
Others just play games
exelent
@lollalot Didn't know there was such a thing!
A pink empacher, ultimately demeaning.
@cruzinseas they are not wearing shoes, only the coxen is.
its pink yay
You have no idea what this is but people in my novice team in their four got 1st place at SRB Invite.
we walk it down the dock and then back it.
and a hippos not even that great a logo. but they still whoop ass.!
@jm338 If you've got back problems from rowing, your technique is wrong.
at 1:06 they do an olympic launch, my team does that it isnt that special
@podgeonpc It sounds like Moby...
haha nice
yeah, three-a-days kinda blow
wow..
