      @@s.c.6989in my opinion, it’s about playing great basketball. What percentage of your success comes from offense Vs defense is dependent on the team. You just can’t be incompetent on either end and compete. The 04 pistons won a championship by holding teams under 70, but they still had dawgs on offense like Sheed, Chauncey, and Rip that came through when they needed it. I would say overall offense is more important to the success of a team but to win a championship you need both.

      @@aherbo18 i understand what you mean, but I believe defense is more because it’s the one aspect you can always rely on. Even the greatest scorers in the world have off nights, but a consistent/competent defense can make up for offensive droughts. If you can’t defend a cone and have an off night scoring, you stand no chance of winning. Denver had a couple of off shooting nights in the finals and cf, but their defense kept them alive. They even turned it into transition buckets which fueled their offense

    • @aherbo18
      @aherbo18 Рік тому +5

      @@s.c.6989 While I do think offense is “more important” simply based off the principle that you have to score more points to win the game, the game is about getting a bucket and stopping the opponent from getting a bucket. Both are essential. With that said, I also believe a great defense can make up more for a lackluster offense than a great offense can make up for a lackluster defense. It also depends on what era we are talking about because certain eras rule set’s allowed more or less advantages to defenders or offensive players than others.

Look at how fucking looney was keeping the warriors in the series vs the kings by grabbing 3 offensive boards in one possession lol

      @@DawnofIsai you just changed the criteria to fit what you wanted. All it said was who you taking. Nothing about pieces already in place. You take the better player. Which is melo by far. If you are trying to build a championship team from scratch you are taking melo over Rodman in a heartbeat. Melo is a dynamic bucket getter who can rebound pass and defend despite the narrative around him. To win a championship you need a guy who can get buckets at will. It’s gonna be much easier to build a championship roster around melo than it is Rodman. Pistons would not take Rodman over IT. Spurs and Popovich had many difficulties with Rodman. Bulls had to babysit Rodman.

    • @brendanbloom3366
      @brendanbloom3366 Рік тому

      @@jxmmykriminallive what was the question than? He said in most cases he’s taking Rodman. 9/10 times he said. There was nothing about it already being a championship caliber team. 9 times out of 10 it is not gonna be a championship caliber team. The majority of the time you aren’t gonna want to over complicate things. You take the better basketball player. Melo is the better and more valuable basketball player in general.

    • @BOnYTB
      @BOnYTB Рік тому +2

      Ya OP that was probably a really bad comp lol. This is coming from a DET fan too, I value Rodman a lot. But it also should be a given we are talking about winning championship, that’s literally the video title. But Melo is still the better player overall in his prime and fits on more teams.
      Maybe a better comp would be like KCP vs Lou Will. If you asked the general public, they’d say Lou was the better basketball player. But in the postseason, give me KCP all day long. He’s plug and play, he’s gonna be able to defend 1s and 2s and even some smaller 3s, he can hit C&S 3s at a high level, attack closeouts, keep the ball moving, etc. If I’m trying to win in the postseason I want KCP over Lou. Or you could use like Jordan Poole if you wanted a current day person.
      Those small guards that can’t defend can get you buckets, but they’re not good enough to be a #1 option. If they’re your best creator or even second best creator you’re cooked. Maybe on extremely specific rosters you’d prefer them, but it’s very very few when we are talking about trying to win a chip in the playoffs. Having a solid 3&D wing is always gonna be helpful in the playoffs bc they’re not gonna attack them on the defensive end, and while they’re not amazing on offense, they’re good enough to be a +.
      Both sides of the ball are extremely important. You need balance. Just wanted to maybe give a better comp than OP did

    With the new collective bargaining it's going to be really hard to add talent to contenders with two superstars. I like the idea of offering an extra 1st round pick right after the lottery to the winner (Sort of like NFL comp picks). You can scale that back to 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place spaced at end of the 1st, mid 2nd, and end of 2nd round. That let's contenders get a cheap contributor they can develop, ammo for trades and helps middle/rebuilding teams with an extra pick if they do well. That should push organizations to go for it and keep the money prize as well for the players.

    Problem with putting the in season tournament closer to the playoffs like P suggested is that it creates even more incentive for players to sit out to not risk health

    Edit: I 100% agree with Pee, guarantee a play-in spot. Some seasons it wont matter bc the one seed will win it but sometimes a lower team could win it.
    Kenny is correct about Soccer also having that cups and stuff but most, if not all, those cups are teams from different leagues. Its teams from France and England and Spain playing for them. The NBA one is pointless bc we already see those teams play and I dont really care if my team win or lose the tournament.

    1:46:46 The answer to “Better Offense or defense” comes down to this. If you have those special/rare players whose offense disregards any type of defense in front of them, I would chose thay. But reality of the nba, and the reason most nba teams won off of having strong defense is cause those special/rare offensive players are few and far in between every year. Most teams don’t get the luxury of having those sort of players, so they often have to rely on both.
    The reason why that isn’t a fair point P made was cause your team is made up of literally some of the most revolutionary offensive talents this world has seen. The skill level of the nba has skewed offensive ability to the point where defense has had less of an effect on those special/rare players much more so than a decade ago. If you asked this question during Jordan era or even a decade ago I think the answer is different

    Most definitely defense. You can score all you want, if you can’t stop other professionals from scoring you’ll be in an all out slugfest 😂😂. You gotta be able to make stop and make stops consistently.

      No weve seen at the highest level an elite offense always trumps elite defense, defense is 90% effort offense is skill in a game 7 were youre exhausted what will hold up? Its offense, you dont have to have an elite defense just an okay one but you 100% need an elite offense if u wanna make a deep run weve seen it over and over the best defensive teams with okay offenses 1st and 2nd round exits or look like a shell of themselves later in the playoffs yes u can hold them but u cant make a run to seperate and then they start hitting bullshit shots bcuz theyre elite offensively and u cant match those blows

      It's both. Last lakers chip, they had the 3rd ranked defense and the the 11th ranked offense. In 2018 The warriors had the 3rd ranked offense and the 11th ranked defense. Most champions have either their offense or their defense in the top 5. Sometimes they have both. Both of them win chips. To just say defense wins chips is insane.
