Alex is almost like an enlightened person but he’s wrapped in the form of a business man. 🤔 He’s doesn’t get stuck in polarized black or white thinking, he’s able to hold paradoxical points at the same time, he’s found this difficult balance of those high level ideas but grounded in passion and hard work. I am so grateful for his wisdom and example of hard work

Alex talking about the gratification of giving your absolute all reminds me of Captain America's scene where it was just him vs thanos's army. One can imagine the pride of being the last man standing even for yourself, and you realise your full potential and power as you push through.

Everything he said about being the top closer is so true: being 16 years old and the manager of Dept 3 at a publishing fundraising company, I was in charge of leading grownups who were my parents age, guiding them to sales, based on my own sales MVP consistency. Fun fact: Scottie Pippen, a basketball player, worked there at the same time!

Howes talks about winning vs. losing sometime around 31mins in terms of football. The end result may have been a win, but the series of plays that occurred during the game were ALL small wins or loses. Focus on each one in an effort to improve. That's the real win. I learn so much from these interviews. Especially about myself.

And this is like what entrepreneurship feels like, if I can give it to anyone who's new to this, is the feeling of uncertainty that you don't know if all of the work that you've been spending all of your nights and weekends and off time investing in will ever pay off. And so it's this fear that you're wasting your time. But the reality is that the outcome isn't the thing that you're building. The person you are is the person that you're building, and that continues to work.

The only point of the sacrifice is the reward.
The only reason for the suffering is the relief and goal afterwards.
The point of suffering is not suffering itself. Suffering produces endurance but suffering isn't the point. The endurance, the strength, the gain, the goal, the success is the point.
Any one that is saying just suffer for the sake of suffering: on a long enough time line you're just dead.
The point of delaying gratification is to eventually be gratified. We delay gratification in the short term to have a far bigger payout later.
There is no point in delaying gratification indefinitely.
Those that claim to have transcended gratification entirely are either lying or finding their gratification in another source. No one lives without gratification entirely. That's not how humans are.

This is a great conversation. If you don't get the outcome you want, even if you thought you "gave it your all" there's a tendency to re-evaluate in retrospect that you could have done more. Or you just have a crappy strategy that no amount of effort would give you a successful outcome. You have to learn from your effort for success to be a foregone conclusion. And defining learning as changing behavior is brilliant.

@@sophiend938 @sophiend938 sure, I'll give you the example Tony Robbins uses. If your goal is to see the sunrise and you're facing/heading west, you have the wrong strategy.
