Fun fact: Scottie Pippen, a basketball player, worked there at the same time! Excellent interview!
Howes talks about winning vs. losing sometime around 31mins in terms of football. The end result may have been a win, but the series of plays that occurred during the game were ALL small wins or loses. Focus on each one in an effort to improve. That's the real win. I learn so much from these interviews. Especially about myself.
Yeah Alex’s response reminded me of what zen practitioners talk about, always being in the flow state working towards a goal while also being detached from it at the same time.
Knowing that you didnt run away, you accepted all the challenges and you gave an honest effort for your choices, is much more lasting than winning, because winning is to show others, but the effort is to show yourself.

I wouldnt say more pain or stress, Being broke, struggling to pay bills and feed your kids and provide when your broke is an extremely stressful and painful thing especially when you grew up poor and dont have anyone to turn to and dont know what things to do. Add in child support bad decisions, criminal record, bad credit. Trust me it can be completely debilitating, I still haven given up but struggling is putting it litely!
Thank you for the video and the info. I'm not really trying become a millionaire. I'm just really trying to get my family out of debt. My son battled through leukemia and it's been a long battle. He's doing better, but the pieces are still being picked up. Now I try and climb this mountain of debt. I've been head down and now I need to try and change that. Hoping with some of the knowledge I can find I turn that around.

I loved this. You and Alex seemed to even respectfully debate a couple of points which i felt was rare for both of you, at least on camera. The title was a little click bate-ey. 10:11 And this is like what entrepreneurship feels like, if I can give it to anyone who's new to this, is the feeling of uncertainty that you don't know if all of the work that you've been spending all of your nights and weekends and off time investing in will ever pay off. And so it's this fear that you're wasting your time. But the reality is that the outcome isn't the thing that you're building. The person you are is the person that you're building, and that continues to work.
The only point of the sacrifice is the reward. The only reason for the suffering is the relief and goal afterwards. The point of suffering is not suffering itself. Suffering produces endurance but suffering isn't the point. The endurance, the strength, the gain, the goal, the success is the point. Any one that is saying just suffer for the sake of suffering: on a long enough time line you're just dead. The point of delaying gratification is to eventually be gratified. We delay gratification in the short term to have a far bigger payout later. There is no point in delaying gratification indefinitely. Those that claim to have transcended gratification entirely are either lying or finding their gratification in another source. No one lives without gratification entirely. That's not how humans are.
This is a great conversation. If you don't get the outcome you want, even if you thought you "gave it your all" there's a tendency to re-evaluate in retrospect that you could have done more. Or you just have a crappy strategy that no amount of effort would give you a successful outcome. You have to learn from your effort for success to be a foregone conclusion. And defining learning as changing behavior is brilliant.
