    Hello!
Love these video, great way to learn about making molds!
Quick question. How do u decide when to go for a 2 part mold (like the mug) or a 1 part mold (like the apple)?
Do you think you can make a shoe mold in 1 part and slice it down the middle once it's done to create 2 parts?
    Thanks!

Hi, Thank you for asking and this is a very good question because I always ask myself 1-part vs 2-part. If the form of the master object is simple, symmetrical and has a tapering shape I will go for a 1 part mold, otherwise I will do 2-part. Yes, 2-part is more time consuming but less failure. Mug has a handle and it creates an island so it has to be a 2 part. For the sneaker I would recommend 2-part because amount of silicone you are using is significant so you don't want to fail like I did with Air Jordan, I would play the safe side in that regards.... What I learnt so far is that, even if you fail with 2-part mold, most of the time one side is successful so you only need to fix the other half. If you are confused, you should always go for 2-part. Hope this helps!

If you look at my Vans sneaker mold making which is a 2-part mold, you will see me separating the shoes between the rubber sole and the fabric top. I found that that's the best place to divided into to 2 and minimize the parting/flashing line. Let's say you did a 1-part and cut in half, you would probably have a flashing line in the middle of the sneaker which is not ideal...
