    points to remember from this video:
    hanbeonman bwajuseyo = "please let this one slide"
    hanbeonman bwajwo = "please let this one slide" (casual)
    babo shot = when someone makes a foolish mistake while playing games, then you got to drink a shot (can be used even when you're not drinking alcohol)
    da naenwa = give it to me (not in a kind way, but more of an extorting vibe) --> hand it over
    an-ajwo = "hug me" / "give me a hug"
    deul-eo-wa = "come in"; but if used in slang it means "bring it on" / "come inside to fight" / "bring it on"

    I kinda “know” korean slangs and meanings thx to kdrama so when I see a korean video and the translation kind of off I correct it myself in my mind, but for some reason when I watch Gose, sometimes I don’t understand what the joke is or what they’re saying, they’re just so ‘Inssa’ and I def an outside so I can’t relate hahahahah, but thx to this channel now I can laugh off together with them and understand it better ❤

    Sometimes is all about context so is not translators' fault if they aren't watching the episodes while translating and only have the transcripts.
    But i loved this video!! It helps to learn a little bit more korean

    • @ikoreanu
      @ikoreanu  Рік тому +1

      That is SO true!! By reading only transcripts, they can't get the full context, and it's hard to tell who's talking to whom, so it's natural to make some mistakes. I'm glad you liked it ☺️

    After watching this video, Bring It (날 쏘고 가라) by SEVENTEEN started playing in my head, more specifically Hoshi’s line “들어와, 들어와“
    It is so cool how I now understand that part! I love this, thank you so much for making this video!

    • @ikoreanu

      What I realized while editing is that, in my opinion, they translate the script without watching the actual video! I guess that's one of the most contributing factors to errors in nuance and stuff. Thank you for your comment☺️

    i think the "babo shot" part was probably gose staff trying to be witty by word-playing "shot" into "filmshot" instead of directly translating it from the drinking shot meaning. hence the "scene with the fool" subtitle.
    i think that's one thing that a lot of fans don't quite realize or fully appreciate about gose. which is the efforts of gose staff, who purposely subtitle the eps in a way that conveys - not just the content and interactions - but the overall humor and feel of each episode, so as to be more accessible for non-korean audiences. yeah some instances may not be fully accurately translated word-for-word, but the intended intent was delivered via clever word play in another language, which in turn makes the content of the scene universally understood.
    which just goes to show that sometimes, things can get lost in pinpoint translation, and oftentimes to understand a foreign language is to understand the intent and emotion of certain words and expressions, in order for their meaning to be fully appreciated.

    • @ikoreanu
      @ikoreanu  Рік тому +1

      True!! I think their translation is one of the best, and their efforts to deliver the jokes is unmatched. The reason why I pointed that out was to tell the viewers about the origin of the word so they don't get confused when they hear it in real life. I didn't have any intention to criticize their work!! Thanks for sharing your opinion anyway 🙌🏻

      @patchworkangel0210 Рік тому +1

      @@ikoreanu oh i wasn't complaining, i'm sorry if it came off like that 😭 i just wanted to remind ppl that sometimes the translation differences are there for a reason, and it's a actually a great opportunity for channels like yours and seanna tv to help show the nuances behind those translations. cause i sometime see ppl comment that gose "didn't translate it right" if the dialogue isn't 100% accurately subbed. that's what makes gose so much fun, cause it's layers upon layers of details that come togethe to make their jokes work for EVERYONE 🥹🥹🥹

    the "deul-eo-wa" thing is so interesting to me, here in brazil we have a very similar slang thing! "cai dentro" literally means "[you] fall in" but has the same "fight me" sort of connotation

    Wow this was really helpful thank you.
    I have a question, could you clear it up for me?
    Going Seventeen Mousebusters Part 3, 16:16 when Mingyu runs off in the Podo game, Jeonghan says "어디 가 포도야" (Eodi ga podoya) and Jun says "어디 가" (eodi ga) and this is translated as "How is this a grape?" but I always felt this is a mistranslation as in it is not wrong, "어디가 포도야" can mean "How is this a grape?" (literally "Which part of this is a grape" if I am not wrong) but I think here they meant "Where are you going grape?" since Mingyu runs out of the room they are in. Do you think I am right in thinking this? I was always curious about this.

    • @ikoreanu
      @ikoreanu  Рік тому +1

      Yeah, you are right!! The key lies in the spacing. 어디 가 is definitely 'where are you going.' Well, we cannot affirm THAT is 100% what he meant because 어디가 is also possible. 어디가 is, as you said, 'which part of this is a grape,' and people use this phrase to express 'it doesn't look anything like that.' ANYWAY I believe it was 어디 가(where are you going), and it sounds much funnier than the other haha☺️
