- I have tried to explain here the basic differences between a Chromatic & a diatonic Harmonica. Although I haven’t covered much about a diatonic harmonica, I did try to explain the common confusions people have with respect to these Harmonicas. Also, I have tried explaining what is the difference between a 10 hole and a 12 hole harmonica.

Diatonic harmonicas are bit difficult to play especially Hindi or any Indian language songs because of long range of notes. It needs lot of practice. I used to play 24 holes harmonica. Now I have started playing 10 hole diatonic harmonica and trying to master it.

I am from Pakistan. You are really doing a great job for harmonica lovers. Please upload harmonica reeds tuning lesson. Infact I have just purchased SWAN 1248-Golden Colour harmonica but I have to put a lot of drawing/blowing pressure on 2 notes of my new Swan mouth organ. Please resolve my issue. Kind regards from Pakistan.
Your Harmonica is good although this is a common problem with Swan and midrange Hohner harmonicas which can be easily rectified at home but needs a careful touch. Do not tamper reeds unless u watch a couple of videos on dos and donts or else u might end up damaging it completely....

Please buy 12 hole harmonica. For beginers Tower mouth organ is suitable. It has 24 holes. It is less expensive. Once learn to play normally without using the slider of Chromatic one, you will understand the purpose of the slider. May be 10 hole is also good. It is good for blues music of western.

Hi Pratyusha, for a start you can choose either of a chromatic or a diatonic harmonica. But i would say u buy a diatonic. U can find on amazon there are plenty. A hohner silver star would cost u about 800-900 (c scale) or you can go with Swan diatonic 10 holes... In the end if these seem costly you can try Easttop diatonic 10 holes which will cost around 400-600

I am using a swan 1040t model... The chinese Easttop 1040t is an exact copy of the swan model... I have both and clearly see the difference... Swan is way superior....
I also have Hohner Chromonica 12 and hohner chrometta 12

Thank you for responding! Try covering the 2 cells and blowing one at a time to see if they sounded good (just blowing 1). They all sound good except for the number 2 which sounds very soft, when I aspirate it in, this is normal? thank you.

Hi bro. I purchased Songstar scn 48. Very good instrument. But now a days I'm facing a problem, ie.. When I'm not playing for few hours or more the slider gets stuck and become very hard to push. How to solve it. I already used coconut oil over that slide. But it seemed smooth for few days and again become hard. Plz advice.
