Exactly. I would lose my footing in some of these situations too. Like the Heiskanen one, his body was just really far over his feet and whether it was a dive or fall, it was a tedious position. I fall when I’m that unbalanced.

The question is would the original penalty have been called had the embellishment not been there. In Coots’ case it was not, although objectively the only penalty here is the embellishment call.
@@paulharrington9859 Of course it can. You trip someone, then it is a trip. Someone getting tripped decides to flop to make it more dramatic, it is an embellishment. I think sometimes they need to call just embellishment. Like in the Tampa/Florida one that should have only been an embellishment call. Obviously in most cases it's both but just get Greg Louganis sometimes
They do call just embellishment if there is no foul to cause the fall. In almost all the cased there is a trip, hook or holding, and other players decides to add cream on top. Two fouls, two penalties.

Why not? Both players break the rules, both get a penalty. The first penalty does not disappear just because the other player decides to dive, doesn't it.
@@adraper6816 This is how I view it. one player definitely does something worthy of a penalty, and the recipient fears it will be missed, so decides to throw some theatrics to draw attention. I don't agree with it each time (especially some of these), but can understand.
Most of these calls wouldn't be penalties if the embellishment wasn't called, then why call the original penalty? If the dive was the only reason the original penalty was called, then only call the dive, or don't call anything. Tim Peel has shown that NHL officiating is, systemically, a joke. The NHL needs to decide what their philosophy of officiating is going to be, do we implement game management, or do officials simply call the penalties as they occur? If game management, even up penalties, are a part of the game, then Tim Peel got screwed. These even up diving calls show that the NHL has no idea what they want to do.
I get your point but it really depends on the context. Just because someone dived doesn't mean that the player who caused him to dive didn't also do an act of penalty. Let's say, player A slashes player B on the legs. Player B dives as a result and gets an embellishment penalty. Of course, player A gets a slashing penalty because slashing is also penalized. It's not like a penalty will disappear just because someone dives. Then again, some of these calls are tough to decide on, depending on the gravity of the penalty (e.g., causing injury). And it is worth noting that the usual intent of a player to embellish is to get someone penalized, provided he doesn't get caught faking it 😆 So there's that.
Really annoys me when the announcers talk over the penalty announcement then get shocked when it's not a power play. It's your job to tell us about this, yap after you have the facts.
When matthew tried to pick up stutzle😳😳. Also I'm not sure how you can embellish a penalty he either committed a penalty or he tried to dive to draw one
