Thanks for the video. In Australia we are just starting to get this and as a fan of the Magic card game I felt this would be easier for my nephew to learn/play (10). The instructions on the app are good BUT a little hard for me to follow (dyslexia FTL) so seeing how to play helped a LOT.
Our pleasure! We’re visual learners too, so very happy to hear this was useful. And it’s awesome that Lorcana finally made its way to Australia! Hope you have a blast playing with your nephew
Hey there! Thanks for the comment. We are happy to hear that you liked the video. We put a lot of effort in this one! ^^ We can't wait to also see your new videos soon, once your days gets less busy! Take care!
We are very happy to hear that the guide was helpful to you. ^^ And thanks for sharing with your friends. We want to make sure that we can be a great go-to channel to help Lorcana players. Thanks!
So my take away is You use ink well cards for Mana, which is used to pay for cards which do or don't have the Inkwell symbol, and those cards are no longer playable beyond being ink. Everyone has summon sickness unless they have a power like Haste. Exerting = Tap I'm converting to MtG terms because that's how I understand em
I've not had a chance to play YET but I'm working on it, sense I know how to play magic and 20 other TCGs, I wanted to play this, but as a lot of you know that it was near to impossible to get ahold of anything of Lorcana for like a year cause of Scalpers. Finally it calmed down and I can go get what I finally need/want. I don't know what I wanna play so I'm finally able to make a deck. I'll mess around with it and see what happens.
The best way to get an idea of which playstyle fits you better, is definitely by mixing and matching and experimenting with it. I’m fairly sure you will get a good grasp of the game quite quickly. Hope you enjoy it! We are huge fans of the game (obviously!). Also glad that the “dark days” of having hard time acquiring products is now in the past and access is easier. Enjoy it!
@@InkbornHeroes done that for years! I still do that in Yugioh, Magic, Pokemon, when Naruto was a thing and so on. I think my favorite was with Yugioh.
Gonna hit up the new set's pre-release at my local game store to give it a shot for the first time since it's a pre-release tournament. I've had okay luck at the MTG pre-releases I've gone to this year and shaken off the rust of not playing that game for 20 years. I'm used to MTG draft style pre-releases, not getting a starter deck and a booster pack so this is gonna be new. Maybe I'll win a round and get an extra booster, since I've never played the game I'm hitting the guides to learn the ins and outs of the game and mechanics to give me a better shot at winning a round.
Wishing you the best with the pre-release. The community is amazing and I’m sure will answer any questions you have on the day. And hopefully it’s like riding a bike and it all comes flooding back to you 🤩
Hey just another question, there are cards with abilities that say "may" giving an option to use it and others that don't, forcing the ability to be used. With Tinker Bell Most Helpful's ability says when played you must give evasive to character. Can I give it to tinkerbell who already has evasive? Because I don't want to give it to an opponent character.
Hey! 😊 Yes, you could target Tinker Bell with her ability. Abilities that require you to choose another character will say something like “another chosen character” (see Zipper Astute Decoy as an example of this).
@InkbornHeroes Oh yay thats good 😄 Means the action card Dodge! can also be used on characters with evasive to gain ward and vice versa. Thanks you've been really helpful
So when you exert your character do you have to have to wait to get the lore when it your turn again or when you exert a character, do you get the lore right away?
Hey there! If you activate a characters ability by exerting it, the character cannot also quest at the same turn. However, some abilities are activated by questing the character. In this case, both happens at the same time.
To gain the lore printed on the card, you have to quest. There are some exceptions to this, but that’s the general rule. Challenging a character doesn’t give the lore.
All characters (inkable or non inkable) must dry, before being used. So you can only play it in the next turn. Unless they have RUSH. Which is a unique ability that allows you to CHALLENGE on the same turn you play it. 😊
Yes! You can target characters that are still drying with character abilities and actions. And if your characters have passive effects (I.e effects that don’t require them to exert, such as Belle Strange But Special allowing you to ink an additional time) you can use those even if they’re not dry.
Great intro to the game video. I live in Australia and just bought the shimmering skies decks for my wife and daughter (7) to play. Is there any particular starter decks you would recommend for new players?
That’s so exciting that you picked up the starter decks. In terms of ease of playing, the Amber Amethyst starter deck from The First Chapter is my favourite to give to new players, and I really like the Steel Amethyst deck from Rise of the Floodborn.
So when you challenge an opponent’s character. You don’t gain the lore they would normally get from questing, right? Also, for a location that gets a lore at the beginning of each turn, do you have to have a character moved to the location to gain the lore? I started playing last night and was confused by De Vil Manor and whether I should take the lore or not without a character moved there. I didn’t take the lore because I assumed someone needed to be there, otherwise I don’t understand the cost to move someone there if there is no other benefit to the card other than getting lore at the start of each turn. Enjoying the game so far!
Hey There! We are glad to hear that you have been enjoying the game. :) You are right: you don't gain the opponent's lore from challenging and banishing them. This is unrelated from the act of challenging or questing. Regarding Locations, you will ALWAYS passively earn that Location's Lore during the SET phase of your turn (right in the beginning). You don't have to have any characters inside a location to activate this benefit. The reason there are some cards like De Vil Manor (without any specific abilities), is that there are other character cards that have abilities triggered when inside a location (any). For example, look at "Minnie Mouse - Funky Spelunker" card from Set 3. She has an ability that while she is at a location, she gets +2 Strength. This is independent of a specific location, but instead, ANY location. So, if you had this card, and moved her to your De Vil Manor, she would have this benefit on strength. I hope that helps! Happy Questing! :)
@@InkbornHeroesthank you! Another question, can you target on of your opponents exerted characters with two or more of your own? Example “Simba Returned King” with a 4 attack/6 defense - can my opponent exert two of his characters to challenge Simba to take him out in the same turn? Thanks!
Yes, so each of your characters are independent, and you can choose to do whatever you’d like with them each turn. So you could have two characters challenge a single character, have one challenge and the other quest, and so on.
How does damage get dealt and divided to your challenging characters? Do both challengers receive the total strength of the opponent or can you divide it up?
Items usually remain on the board, and can be used turn after turn. However, some items have abilities which require you to banish them to use - such as the Pawpsicle. We’re going to release a video on how items work soon 😉
Man, this actually looks fun. However, lack of true experience, and other things, hold me back. Is there a simulator website of sorts which teaches you how to play?
It’s really super fun! Currently the only way to play online is the unofficial Pixelborn, however it’s going to be shut down in a few days 😔 However, if you have any specific questions about how anything works, do let us know.

So when you exert your character do you have to have to wait to get the lore when it your turn again or when you exert a character, do you get the lore right away?
When you exert to quest, you gain the lore immediately. The only thing you have to wait for is for the character’s ink to have dried first.
If you exert a character card to use its ability do you also get the lore point also?
Hey there! If you activate a characters ability by exerting it, the character cannot also quest at the same turn. However, some abilities are activated by questing the character. In this case, both happens at the same time.
Oh, boy. I'm liking the sound of this tcg. Thanks. Ima have to get me some cards now. Hearthstone player. Think ima like this game too.
How many cards can you put into the inkwell at the beginning of your turn?
By default, you can place one card into your inkwell per turn. However there are other cards that allow you to add extra ink after that.
So do you score lore points after you conquest a card? Or do you have to choose whether to use the card or to quest it?
To gain the lore printed on the card, you have to quest. There are some exceptions to this, but that’s the general rule. Challenging a character doesn’t give the lore.
So you have to wait a turn to let some things ink dry. Does that include cards that are not inkable? Or do they hit the board on play like actions?

Yes! You can target characters that are still drying with character abilities and actions. And if your characters have passive effects (I.e effects that don’t require them to exert, such as Belle Strange But Special allowing you to ink an additional time) you can use those even if they’re not dry.

Minimum of 60. But no maximum. We have a deck building video which gives more context.
