      English managers are not tactical.
La Masia kids learn complex tactics from a very young age. English academies have improved a lot tactically over the years, but kids today are not turning into managers yet.
In the past, Spanish midfielders would build up step by step in a methodical way. English midfielders would play long ball forward without much thinking. That’s why managers like Lampard and Gerrard are not very tactical. There are no complexity in their tactics.
A lot of English managers didn’t have the opportunity to learn from Pep (easily the greatest ever tactician in football history). So they don’t know how to divide a tactics into thousands of pieces and coach them into their players. They don’t know how to play a tactical chess game.

A lot of England fans would despise Klopp because of his association with Liverpool. Let's not forget that in the 70's and 80's Liverpool were the dominant force in English football with eleven league titles and seven 2nd place finishes in 19 seasons from 1972/73 until 1990/91
Klopp had a far better legacy and overall connection with the fanbase and even the City at Liverpool than Tuchel did at Chelsea. He defended Liverpool fans booing God Save the Queen in the FA Cup final and a lot of people not only hate Liverpool fans but scousers in general.

Brazil is facing a similar dilemma with the possibility of a foreign manager:
    - The Brazilian people think that no brazilian coach is good enough for the Seleção.
    - The impact that both Abel Ferreira and Jorge Jesus left in the Brasileirão and Libertadores with Palmeiras and Flamengo.
    - A lot of the best coaches in Brasileirão are foreign (Abel Ferreira, Juan Pablo Vojvoda, Arthur Jorge, Luiz Zubeldía, Gabriel Milito, Ramón Díaz and Pedro Caixinha).
    - The Failures of the Best Brazilian coaches to bring good performances after Tite left (Dorival Junior and Fernando Diniz)
    - CBF trying and failing miserably to bring Carlo Ancelotti and creating this theory that we could have a foreign manager.

Opposition to the idea of a foreign national head coach is not unique to England. The policy of all major footballing nations is to strongly prefer their own coaches for that position. I haven't done a comprehensive review, but here are a few:
    - Germany has never had a foreign head coach.
    - Brazil has not had a foreign head coach since 1944, when a Portuguese coach managed them for two friendlies.
    - Italy has not had a foreign head coach except for a brief spell in the '60s when Helenio Herrera (of Inter fame) was co-manager (with an Italian).
If any of these countries (among others) found themselves in a position where they were toying with the idea of appointing a foreign coach, the result would be exactly the same kind of media storm seen in England now - nothing about this is a uniquely English pathology (including the overlap with xenophobia). Worse still if the coach being considered (much less appointed) hailed from a major footballing rival by nationality.
The difference is that all of these countries would take corrective action to ensure that they had qualified coaches in the future, not just the short-term solution of a foreign coach (or an unqualified one, like Southgate). In fact, we can even argue that this is something like what happened in Germany when they made Klinsmann manager: he was not really qualified for the position (and the quality of players available to him was middling to poor by German standards), but he was able to restore positivity about the German national team, while in the mean time a programme to reform German football was under way. That saw results not only in a very talented and successful generation of players for the German national team, but also a new wave of young German coaches who have been in demand all over Europe.
The English FA is incapable of anything similar. We see more talented English players these days because wealthy *clubs* have motivations to produce them. They don't have the same motivation to produce talented English managers. The FA has no serious programme for it. So this problem that's lasted about 30 years will continue, as the FA is a product of the rot in British society in general.

Tuchel is probably the club manager who is most adaptable to international football. In fact, Tuchel feels much more comfortable in knock-off tournaments than in a league season. One of the big problems England has is that there is no learning line/philosophy like there is in Argentina, Spain or Germany. Most of the english managers "learn" by managing in the lower categories and end up managing as a team in the lower categories is managed, not a team that wants to win titles

On paper, England has had the most talented young lineup in both the past 2 Euros & World Cup. You could've won two of these, easily, but didn't. At the hands of a stubborn manager, like we had with Roberto Martinez.
A golden generation like yours, deserves an absolute TOP manager who has seen it all and brought success to his teams. • @Powergenetic
      @Powergenetic 6 годин тому

I think a lot of it has to do with the media and general culture around football. We tend to be very short sighted over here when it comes to managers and they can quickly go from being perceived as a very talented manager to utterly out of depth.
Take Rob Edwards of Luton as a prime example. This time last season his stock was at an all time high, he'd brought an unfancied Luton up and while they were losing games they were putting a dogged shift into every game. Inevitably they went down but they could hold their heads high and Edwards rightfully received a lot of praise.
This season though with Luton currently 21st? Edwards is seen as a one season wonder who was riding on the coattails of Nathan Jones.
We love nothing more than writing someone off and not giving them a chance lol. One failure at a club pretty much dooms your career nowadays and it's very difficult for a manager to bounce back. If Edwards ends up getting sacked by Luton then he'll probably end up with an unfancied midtable championship club, someone like a Preston, QPR or Cardiff.
Right now we do have a few up and coming English managers, guys like Des Buckingham of Oxford, Carrick of Middlesbrough, Skubala of Lincoln and Rosenier at Strasbourg. But if any of them fail they'll just be written off and doomed to the lower leagues.
You have to bare in mind too that the EFL's are arguably the most competitive and professional structure of anywhere in the world. In Germany for example your 2 Bundesliga is a very competitive and high quality league but the quality drops off massively in the 3rd and 4th tiers whereas those leagues are still professional here and have some good players in them. So it's much harder for a younger manager to really make a name for themselves as the standard of coaching at those levels are already quite high.

You need to go back to 2002/2003 to find a English manager finishing top 3.
    Bobby Robson also with Newcastle.
Top 4? Bobby Robson retired in 2004.
Since only 4 times did an english manager achieved top 4.
    2009/2010+2011/2012 Harry Redknapp with Tottenham.
    2019/2020 Frank Lampard with Chelsea.
    2022/2023 Eddie Howe with Newcastle.
    20 years. 4 Top 4s.
    Not one Top 3.
    It's abysmal.

i honestly thought that when the news broke about Tuchel was announced as England boss, there would be sense of respect, like no arguments on social media because England had just appointed a winner, that's what he is. But then to see the negative articles and responses is just shocking, Southgate wasn't a good enough coach for international level and when 1 who is gets appointed, there's uproar

The fact that there was possibly only one viable English option at all (Howe - but he's tied up with Newcastle) and that there has never been an English manager winning the Premiership is more of a sad indictment of the current coaching system we have in England and the FA. This is not Tuchel's fault nor is it his problem to fix. Furthermore, we also have had a foreign female coach with the Lionesses for a number of years (she's Dutch), but that's not been a problem, especially the success with a Euros win and a first World cup final. So why is having the same for the men's side such a problem?

On a separate video i made the point that due to the nature of the Premier league demanding the best no matter what country they're from it's hard for aspiring English managers to get adequate experience in what is the most competitive league in the world. One response telling me I'm "utterly clueless" and that "The Premier league is actually a great platform for upcoming English coaches"

Carra's reason for objecting to a German manager is different. He's said it a few times that he feels international football is the best of what one country has got vs the best of what other countries have got, and that means not just players but also managers. To him, it feels like having a foreign manager is, therefore, cheating, like bringing in a foreign ringer to play a position your national team is weak in. In his case, it's not xenophobia or a "how are our managers going to get better if we don't give them opportunities" argument.

I believe the criteria for playing for a national team is having been born in the country, having lived there for 5+ years or having a parent/grandparent from the country. I think a good compromise would be to apply those same criteria to the manager. Which would mean that Klopp, Arteta, Moyes or Guardiola could be England manager. Tuchel could have been on his way to being eligible had Chelsea not sacked him.

If that was some second football country like the US, he would have a statue in NY right now for reaching something equivalent to the FA Emirates Cup. That will not cut it in England, especially in a super competitive continent.

The people who claim that a national team should be run by a domestic coach and that a foreign coach shouldn't run the national team because "It ruins the achievement of winning a tournament." need to take a good long look at title winning teams that have had foreign coaches.
Greece winning the Euros in 2004 is considered their greatest footballing feat and is one of their greatest points of national pride, and the manager who won it wasn't Greek, but was German. Same goes with other national teams (USA for example have won multiple Gold Cups with foreign managers, yet each win is a source of pride in their national team).
Tuchel was one of the best managers around at the time of hiring. He took PSG to their first ever Champions League final, then after Lampard was sacked, he took a mid table Chelsea team to not only top 4, but also winning the Champions League, beating teams like Real, Athleti and Man City to win. As a Chelsea fan, I can say that Chelsea were under a dire state under Lampard, and Tuchel not only turned that season around, but made it into one of the greatest seasons for my club is a miracle. He also made it to 5 other finals as Chelsea boss, winning both the Super Cup and Club World Cup (And if it wasn't for our goals that weren't offside being given as offsides, it would have been 6/6 in finals!). Tuchel quickly turned Chelsea around. He made Kai Havertz, Timo Werner and Marcos Alonso look like world class players. Imagine what he can do with the likes of Palmer, Trent, Rice, Bellingham and Watkins.
It's also interesting that the same people who are complaining about this (Mostly Carragher and Neville) didn't have a problem with England being managed by Erikson or Capello and they had equally good chances to win silverware with England as Tuchel has

I dont understand the problem , Thomas Tuchel is one of the most Anglo-friendly people in the space ( X country - friendly means someone has a deeper connection with a country/culture they love for various reasons , sort of like a second nationality by choice or living and experiencing that for some times ) .Klopp was like that aswell and funny enough the team who beat England Greece also has such a coach in Ivan Jovanovic who is Serbian but like many Serbians Greco-friendly , dude had his kids born in Greece and speaks the langauge fluently and has shown love for us in his time in the Greek clubs and now the National Team that has been on fire , If you dont let others love you and push them away of course you are not going to see anything out of them i dont understand how barrating Tuchel for being German helps the National Team at all while Greece showed England by action what happens when you dont push someone who wants to help away. ( i know that Germany and England are not the same situation as Greece and Serbia for example but you get the point this is 2024 not the 1940s )
( Edit - dont get me started on the " we need an English coach " there isnt a single English coach good enough to even be considered in the Top 20 best coaches in the world and you want to give the England job that is a Top 5 nation itw to a coach who isnt qualified just because he is English , 10 years of Southgate didnt really teach you anything did it , 2 fraudulent tournaments were his only real accomplishments both on the edge of failure and saved by individual efforts , Eddie Howe is a good good manager but lets be honest he aint close to someone like Tuchel , you give that Newcastle side to Tuchel they get Top 4 every year not just when half of the teams troll the season and they land in the Top 4 .

Some people just think we should have an English coach for the England team, it's not about hating Tuchel or Germans or any other foreigners. When people talk about how the English are somehow uniquely unpleasant and racist in wanting a coach from their own country no one seems to point out that other major nations don't have foreign coaches. France, Germany, Italy, Spain, even the Netherlands with a smaller population, all prefer to go local.

  • @rodolfotapia5909

There’s this statistic that goes around that every World Cup winning team has had a coach from the same country.
It seems in the eyes of these journalists, pundits, arrogant fans, etc, breaking that mold would be a condemnation against the nation for not producing good coaches.
By the way, England has had foreign born coaches before like Eriksson and Capello. I guess it’s because of this one sided rivalry that England has with Germany that makes it like “harder” for the old heads to accept.
