Lucas obviously likes Riley "more". He didn't even THINK about liking Maya until Riley told him Maya liked him. And even after he was still worried about how Riley felt about him. The only reason it's a love triangle is because Riley is an amazing friend and letting everything happen on it's own, although we all know he wants Riley.

GMW always made Minkus and Cory and Topanga seem like friends but they were never friends in BMW. I just thought it would be a fun unexpected twist in the story. But I liked Farkles girlfriend. The main reason people ship Maya and Lucas more so than Riley and Lucas is because of innocence. Just because Riley and Lucas' dynamic is innocent doesn't make it boring. I have seen an interview on Instagram to which I can link if anyone is interested, in which the writers made this exact point. Also, on Twitter it was brought to the writer's attention that more people ship Maya and Lucas, to which the writers responded : "Good, then we've got you right where we want you" I interpret that to mean that is the plan. They want you to ship them because they have this so called "fire" but fire fizzles out and the world needs more innocence " This is a direct quote from the interview with Michael Jacobs. As some would say Maya has more chemistry with Lucas, in my eyes Riley and Maya have the same amount of chemistry with him but in different ways. What I really cannot comprehend is that as this video shows, Lucas has made it very clear he prioritizes and likes Riley more. Even Riley said, "Maya is my best friend he (Lucas) cares about her and she cares about him " to which Farkle responded : "Maybe , but we know he likes YOU". I personally think Maya likes Josh more than Lucas and Lucas likes Riley more than Maya. the reason why they made the show like this,i believe, is, to show how easily a friendship can be torn apart and how difficult it is to to understand certain feelings, but it's always important to not cave in and make stupid decisions based on things you're not quite sure about.
Maya realized later in the series, she only liked lucas to protect Riley from her true feelings for him. Maya wanted to give Lucas the push of confidence to make Riley as his. Not a lot of good friends would do this for anybody. Maya didn't force them together but gave them confidence for each other.

Maya became more like Riley to protect her, and becoz she became like Riley it would be hard not to fall for someone like Lucas, that's why Riley fell for him so fast and after maya became like her so did she. But maya only liked him becoz she had become like Riley, the real maya didn't like Lucas like that. And if you see it more clearly, Lucas started liking maya becoz she was becoming like RILEY, the person that he actually likes.

You know what? He likes Riley, then he started liking Maya... that could happen, platonic or not... but the thing is... he NEVER stopped liking Riley EVEN when liked Maya. His actions shows it. What Lucas and Maya has is the real brother and sister relationship. It's easy to mistake feelings you have for people especially when you're with them all the time. Sometimes what you think you feel isn't actually there, it could just be you wanting it because somebody close to you has it. We know Maya is often like that because to her Riley's the "fortunate" one. Craving attention and affection is basic human nature, we can't blame Maya for that.
Riley is the easy fun relationship. They don't often disagree, she doesn't carry much emotional baggage, and she knows she likes who he is and doesn't want him to change. Maya is the hard and frustrating relationship. She can't process feelings easily and has bad habits as a result, she has ALL the baggage and daddy issues, she is the emotional train wreck who can only keep it together for when Riley needs her to be the strong one. He could date Riley for years comfortably. They could be the 'wait until marriage' couple and not worry about outside pressure because they can more comfortably talk about what they want without breaking up over small disagreements. And they have the support of at least Riley's parents (maybe Pappy Joe since we never meet lucas's parents) who can help them talk through what they are unsure about. They could go the distance on easy mode with a few hiccups due to Riley's naivete and fear of non innocent things. He and Maya would be the constantly breaking up getting back together, hard yelling discussions in the rain, dealing with her learning what love is drama roller coaster. And her parents plus Shawn are NOT the best advisors since they all have their own baggage that hampers good advice. But Lucas would be a great pillar for her to start learning those things because he is a strong and confident non toxic masculine figure for Maya to start testing the waters of growth with. She'll run and he'll be there when she comes back, she'll scream and he'll hold her until she cries and holds him back. She'll try to brush everything off with she's broken, he will say he's not going anywhere and he'll be there while she fixes herself. There is no easy road for her, but the passion would be through the roof leading to some Degrassi level drama situations. Maya also wants to be with Josh someday, but he isn't the same level of strong willed that lucas is and he may not stay around if Maya doesn't get it together before dating him. Angela was the girl who helped Shawn turn it all around so that he could be the great guy by the time he met Katy. And she found her own 'great guy' with her husband. Lucas might just be Maya's Angela, he'll help her be a better relationship partner, but he isn't going to be her forever partner. Maybe they have to get all the bumps out so Maya can be with Josh, and Riley can have Lucas when he's done filling his role because she was still willing to wait for Lucas the way Maya and Josh waited until they might be ready.

Riley pushed them together to be a good friend and Lucas never actually agreed to being with maya and even though maya liked him she never agreed with being with him either. He was always way more worried about Riley then he was for maya even after he found out maya liked him he was still trying to find what him and Riley were. If he really did have real feelings for maya he wouldn't have been worried about what Riley and him were. I think all of them were forced to be together but Lucas definitely didn't have much of a say in who he was in a relationship with it just sort of happened.

I ship Rucas! Although Sabrina Carpenter is honestly one of my favorite singers, I ship Joshaya. Lucas didn't even think about liking Maya until Girl Meets Texas, so he obviously likes Riley more. In fact, when Riley said he was her brother, Lucas even said, "What if that's not what I think we are?", which definitely hints who Lucas likes. As for Joshaya, does anyone remember when Maya told Josh she was "in it for the long game"? I do! I'm hoping this means she still has feelings for Josh. I am sure she does, even though she may have likes Lucas a bit, I think he is more like a brother to her. Besides, I feel that Maya and Josh really connected on the subway, when Riley kissed Lucas. The main reason people ship Maya and Lucas more so than Riley and Lucas is because of innocence. Just because Riley and Lucas' dynamic is innocent doesn't make it boring. I have seen an interview on Instagram to which I can link if anyone is interested, in which the writers made this exact point. Also, on Twitter it was brought to the writer's attention that more people ship Maya and Lucas, to which the writers responded : "Good, then we've got you right where we want you" I interpret that to mean that is the plan. They want you to ship them because they have this so called "fire" but fire fizzles out and the world needs more innocence " This is a direct quote from the interview with Michael Jacobs. As some would say Maya has more chemistry with Lucas, in my eyes Riley and Maya have the same amount of chemistry with him but in different ways. What I really cannot comprehend is that as this video shows, Lucas has made it very clear he prioritizes and likes Riley more. Even Riley said, "Maya is my best friend he (Lucas) cares about her and she cares about him " to which Farkle responded : "Maybe , but we know he likes YOU". Maya realized later in the series, she only liked lucas to protect Riley from her true feelings for him. Maya wanted to give Lucas the push of confidence to make Riley as his. You know what? He likes Riley, then he started liking Maya... that could happen, platonic or not... but the thing is... he NEVER stopped liking Riley EVEN when liked Maya. His actions shows it. What Lucas and Maya has is the real brother and sister relationship. It's easy to mistake feelings you have for people especially when you're with them all the time. Sometimes what you think you feel isn't actually there, it could just be you wanting it because somebody close to you has it. We know Maya is often like that because to her Riley's the "fortunate" one. Craving attention and affection is basic human nature, we can't blame Maya for that.
Remember on first date Lucas to Maya, "hey OTHER one."
Riley is the easy fun relationship. They don't often disagree, she doesn't carry much emotional baggage, and she knows she likes who he is and doesn't want him to change.
Maya is the hard and frustrating relationship. She can't process feelings easily and has bad habits as a result, she has ALL the baggage and daddy issues, she is the emotional train wreck who can only keep it together for when Riley needs her to be the strong one.
He could date Riley for years comfortably. They could be the 'wait until marriage' couple and not worry about outside pressure because they can more comfortably talk about what they want without breaking up over small disagreements. And they have the support of at least Riley's parents (maybe Pappy Joe since we never meet lucas's parents) who can help them talk through what they are unsure about. They could go the distance on easy mode with a few hiccups due to Riley's naivete and fear of non innocent things.
He and Maya would be the constantly breaking up getting back together, hard yelling discussions in the rain, dealing with her learning what love is drama roller coaster. And her parents plus Shawn are NOT the best advisors since they all have their own baggage that hampers good advice. But Lucas would be a great pillar for her to start learning those things because he is a strong and confident non toxic masculine figure for Maya to start testing the waters of growth with. She'll run and he'll be there when she comes back, she'll scream and he'll hold her until she cries and holds him back. She'll try to brush everything off with she's broken, he will say he's not going anywhere and he'll be there while she fixes herself. There is no easy road for her, but the passion would be through the roof leading to some Degrassi level drama situations.
Maya also wants to be with Josh someday, but he isn't the same level of strong willed that lucas is and he may not stay around if Maya doesn't get it together before dating him.
Angela was the girl who helped Shawn turn it all around so that he could be the great guy by the time he met Katy. And she found her own 'great guy' with her husband.
Lucas might just be Maya's Angela, he'll help her be a better relationship partner, but he isn't going to be her forever partner. Maybe they have to get all the bumps out so Maya can be with Josh, and Riley can have Lucas when he's done filling his role because she was still willing to wait for Lucas the way Maya and Josh waited until they might be ready.
Riarkle is definitely endgame. There are so many parallels between Riarkle and Corpanga. Rucas is probably temporary.
Thing is Lucas was sort of forced in to a relationship with maya and he didn't ever think about being with maya until after he found out she liked him and even then he still wanted to be with Riley but she forced them to be together with out Lucas having time to figure out how he feels I think that he's always thought of maya as only a friend.

I think all of them were forced to be together but Lucas definitely didn't have much of a say in who he was in a relationship with it just sort of happened.

And if it weren't for Maya pushing Riley onto Lucas's lap, Riley and Lucas wouldn't have met. In Girl Meets Texas, I don't blame Maya for having her feelings for Lucas exposed. Maya kept her feelings in too long. In season 3, when Maya started acting like Riley, you hear Riley saying she had Lucas first. And she didn't! From the start of Girl Meets World,crush or not, it was always Lucas and Maya,never Lucas and Riley. I don't know what Rucas shippers don't get about that. Now don't get me wrong I ship Lucaya but I don't hate Rucas shippers. Now if Riley was where Maya was standing in season 1 episode 1, it'd be the other way around. I ship Rucas! Although Sabrina Carpenter is honestly one of my favorite singers, I ship Joshaya. Lucas didn't even think about liking Maya until Girl Meets Texas, so he obviously likes Riley more. In fact, when Riley said he was her brother, Lucas even said, "What if that's not what I think we are?", which definitely hints who Lucas likes. As for Joshaya, does anyone remember when Maya told Josh she was "in it for the long game"? I do! I'm hoping this means she still has feelings for Josh. Anyone else hate how Riley ALWAYS gets more attention than Maya? I mean I know the show is a sequel to her mother and father’s relationship but still, I mean Riley got 3 guys that liked her, Maya got 1 that wouldn’t be with her until she was older. And Maya is totally awesome 😎
