Kenny's is one of the most interesting and rewarding careers to chronical. Those early sides on Savoy with him and Stitt it sounds like he's struggling, then by the 50s he's just killing it as a sideman with the Jazz Messengers and his own solo recordings. Joe Henderson's In and Out has some of my favorite Kenny. His playing sounds very modern here.
Harold Land was aslo like that. Listening to him with Clifford Brown in 50s he sounds like a completely different tenor player than the recordings he made later with Bobby Hutcherson.
Kenny's an all time favorite and great to transcribe and learn from.
