I live in a small town on the Pacific coast in the state of Oaxaca. My apartment is a beautiful studio with a loft, so it really is more of a one bedroom. It comes with a full size swimming pool and is an easy twelve minute walk to a beautiful beach and another easy walk to a nice grocery store, liquor store and medical centre.
My TOTAL expenses each month, including rent, utilities, internet, cell phone and even public IMSS health insurance comes to $427 USD. My only other expenses is food which averages approx. $400 USD a month. So for $827 USD per month I can live a very nice life in Mexico.

I don't think another Jose will be coming along anytime soon. I've been waiting for some one with his background, savy, personality and excellent presentation skills for 15 years! I think it's his Cuban/American influences - and just over all savy, and warmth of personality, that makes him unique. I just hope some Multi-National Corporation doesn't pick him up and put him on their management team for a while - so we can still enjoy him? I can honestly tell you've I've never meet even a "Chicano" in the last 40 years, that can come close to him.

My costs in Mexico City: my rent (which includes power, water, gas, and internet) is $290 a month for a furnished mini-departmento. Transport on the Metro/Metrobus is about $25 USD per month on a reloadable card. Phone with Telcel is $10 a month. Groceries from Walmart and Chedraui comes out to $230.
Medical costs? Medicine per month averages $50 per month for medicine that would cost $300 in the US. I see one of two specialists each month for $85 or $100 and they’re in one of the hoity-toity districts of CDMX. This is on a monthly Social Security income of $1354 a month

The one thing I can contribute which I think is very important, is to seriously budget your food expense because it's so easy to go over your monthly budget with street food everywhere. I'm speaking for Mexico City. You can blow your entire monthly budget in one week in CDMX. Too much food/snacks everywhere you walk😂 I have done this numerous times so I know! lol

Thanks for sharing this information... it's very encouraging. I would say there is a LEARNING curve as I have only been here for 3 days this visit... I went to the regular store and also a Walmart where I still spent quite a lot of money, but I would say it was about 1/3 of the price of the USA I see how thoughtful the Mexican's are in choosing where and how to eat out as well. Four of us adults went to a restaurant for a family style meal we all stuffed ourselves and had drinks, some had sodas some had beer... but the total meal in a relaxed environment WITH live music was only $18 including some take outs such as extra salsa and chips and a pound of handmade tortillas.... One person would be lucky to find that for a single meal in my town.

Hey Sr. Rosendo - when in Merida go to a good Physical Rehab Agency and get them to give you "Ultra Sound Treatments" that can dissolve those Gall Stones. Probably cost no more than $400 - 500 pesos per visit - depending on town. AND, unlike in USA - just call and go without having to be referred and pay for Doctors visits. Just take any X-Rays and Lab Reports with you for them to examine. Top PTs have even proven to me they can see things in an X-Ray that Radiologist don't see or report!!! I suggest, that you don't wait and buy "Eat Right 4 Your Blood Type by Dr. Peter J. D'Adamo a Naturalist Doctor - so you get a head start. You can get that in English or Spanish.

I love your videos Jose but I think you understate costs a bit sometimes. I was in Merida for over a month in Nov last year, albeit in a fairly central location (the barrio of Santiago). A haircut in a normal clean-looking neighbourhood barber shop cost more like 150-200 at least, not 5 dollars. And 5 dollars (at the time around 100 pesos) would have maybe bought you one basic meal in a fonda or 3-4 tacos, but certainly not any more than that.

I've done extensive research through a few different local mexican apartment rental websites, and I haven't been able to find anything even remotely close to 250 a month even for a studio in Merida. I'm not saying it doesn't exist, but these estimates are pretty unrealistic for the average foreginer coming to Merida that doesn't speak Spanish or have a mexican wife to get the non-gringo priced deals. Most folks coming here from the usa and Canada don't want to have lizard and roach visitors every night, so they will probably opt for the "nicer" areas. If you want something relatively modern and semi comfortable you will be paying at least 800 a month in Merida in 2023 unfortunately. Could you get lucky and find something cheaper? Sure, but in general I'd say that is a realistic median price for a modern pad for somebody who doesn't want to downgrade their living standards substantially, but to each their own!

I have made many videos on this topic before, and you said it. 250 USD for rent will not get you the fancy place you might be thinking. In order to live on a budget one must also live a frugal life. This is not for everyone. There are tons of people that would do anything to have a place with a few lizards and bugs they can call their own for that price, but plenty of people would be caught dead living a humble and quiet life. Comfort is relative and you are right most people can not hack it in Mexico due to this simple fact. That is why I keep telling people if you want to keep living your fancy Starbucks lifestyle you are probably better off staying at home. But if you just want a roof over your head and can make your own coffee you can live out here on a very modest budget. I know plenty of Americans/Canadians living for under 1,000 USD a month some even for around $500...... While i know others that are spending more in Mexico than they did back home. Everyone is different and used to a certain standard. Again I live with my wife and dog extremely comfortable for around $1,000 a month and my wife is always complaining i spend too much..... I know other couples where that $1,000 isnt enough for the week. But in the end as you already said, to each their own! thanks again for sharing your very real experience! Saludos!

Please stop with the misleading "I came out here with $1500 to my name". Why mislead people with lies? That's so INTENTIONALLY deceptive.
    1) From what I understand, that story...while sounding good...is not 100% true. You came out and rented an Airbnb...first...for something like a month, while you looked for a place to live. Once you found a place to live after already having lived in Mexico for one month, at that time you had $1,500 LEFT to live on AFTER you had already paid to live in an Airbnb for a month. Why lie to people?
I wanted to subscribe to your channel until I discovered this intentionally deceptive narrative that your broken moral compass seems to say is okay? Why should anyone trust you if you are that okay with intentionally deceiving others???
That means you came to Mexico with significantly more resources than you claim...in 2018...when the economy was MUCH different, and MUCH better.
    2) It's 2023, and the economy has shifted CONSIDERABLY. You could NOT have made it Mexico in 2018 on ONLY $1,500. Yet, you lead people to believe that because it sounds good.
    3) Even on the Mexican websites and Facebook marketplace, it is a real struggle to find ANYTHING under $200 to rent now. It doesn't really matter what the city is. Even Lo de Marco.
Sheesh, if this is really true about you, and your moral character is this weak...and warped...that you feel entitled to MISLEAD people that might really be in financial trouble, and in serious circumstances...like you were...with not much room to make a financial mistake before they're homeless...then shame on you.
Seriously, learning this about you makes me not only NOT want to NOT subscribe, but to stop watching your videos altogether, and to WARN people about you.
If you are truly this intentionally deceptive, and you can sleep at night, it's no wonder you lost your job in LA.
You seemed like such a nice guy....but then again, one should never mistake a "nice person" for a truly good human being who has EMPATHY and concern for others.
You really need to change your ways....BEFORE you harm someone irreparably. What if someone had lied TO YOU when you were near destitute??? What would've happened to you back then?
