In my opinion, PinkPantheress is a prime example of a genius innovator from the UK. If you pay attention to her moves as an artist over the years she’s done everything perfectly; not just with her brand image and all that but the music itself the way she brought back garage type of music to a newer generation & also built an audience in the US through tiktok. She’s 1of1. We just need more of that level of thinking in the rap scene we’re too complacent.
Pour coke by SL sounds almost exactly the same as berlin. Once rappers find a sound that attracts a fairly large audience they stick with it because they're scared to explore new sounds that may potentially scare away some of the audience. It has to do with confidence in their craft and the want to be different.
All black UK music has a 6 year span then 'dies' from the main stream. Happened with jungle happend with garage happened with grime happended with tech house happened with UK funky happend with afro swing and now UK rap
Depends, if you count "trap rap" under UK rap then it's had a strong run since 2014ish but if you separate it, even Trap rap only had maybe a 4-6yr run as well but I think UK rap is too much of a broad term, Dave, Clavish, Blade, Nines, Potter, Cench, Ghetts, Asco, K Trap, Morrisson, M24, even some drill artists can be classed as "UK Rap". UK rap has been strong since the 2000s but really took off in the 2010s & is still going whereas garage, grime, funky etc... all died relatively quickly, it was a wave. Even Afro swing but UK Rap isn't really a wave.
I think there’s an issue with British culture in general that I’ve noticed from successful people whether it’s people in my family, people with successful careers, or business owners. You work hard for a couple years then when you get the fruits of your labour you slow down and just decide to cruise on your success. I’ve met a lot of business owners for example that aren’t interested in growing anymore. They just want to maintain the same level of success instead of elevating themselves further so they can maintain their lifestyle(s). It’s easy to say it’s laziness but when you’re very successful and feel like you’ve got everything in life how do you stay motivated? People here want to get successful for different reasons. You go to the US and people want to dominate the fields they’re in whether that’s music, dentistry, engineering, or whatever. Over here people want to get successful so they don’t have to work as much or at all.
You have a point , when me and my friend launched our e-commerce company in the uk found that the market was very lazy and happy to be went to the US things just took off
The UK is a small economy in terms of entertainment compared to the likes of the US so if you want to make it really big you have to either move there or gain attention from Americans.
He's our Kendrick icl, he's letting Cench 'Drakeify' the music scene over here because most the stuff that's poppin over here now is meaningless and made for clicks. Rate Cench's workrate highly but Dave's gotta help propel the mainstream UK sound to return music to an art form rather than a quick cash grab like we're seeing these tiktok artists doing
