This is so cathartic for me, when I was little I HATED the airplane story. It gave me waaaaay too much anxiety and I was angry and felt frustrated because I knew I would be crying like the woman but for some reason I was supposed to be peaceful. Congratulations on the great channel. I live in the northeast of Brazil. The LDS Church caused my parents to lose their home in 1996 for putting in a home teacher who robbed us all. The local church preferred to remain silent and pretend that nothing happened. my cousin's husband was recently approached by missionaries and ended up inviting them over to do the discussions because his wife is LDS... except, none of that family has even been through the temple or even knows about anything they are agreeing to. It makes me sad that saying anything would ostracize me further from my family. I got asked by a family member how it was that I came back to the church after I left... and I don't know how to tell them that I left before still believing and now I don't believe.. It took going through BYU Pathways and attempting to earn an Associates at BYU-Idaho that broke my shelf... I learned so much about what you are all talking about here. I'm still technically enrolled, but my ecclesiastical endorsement is expired again so I won't be going back.. I got a certificate in Social Media Marketing and what I really learned is that the church is really just PR for the previous Prophets and Marketing for the current one. It's not common for the PR to be happening while still a prophet, but as he's 99, I don't imagine it will be long. And with all of Nemo's sleuthing about the Boy's Club and all the contributions from everyone on this stream, I do hope more people have their eyes open to the truth.

Multi-engine aircraft are not spin certified. Recovering from a spin is very unlikely. Exploding engines don’t put a plane into a spin…. They just catch fire or explode like the one engine did not long ago at Denver on a commercial flight. The pilots just declared an emergency and circled back for a single-engine approach. There would be a very visible and highly detailed report easily retrievable.

On my mission, Rusty came to talk to the missionaries. As I was passing by while he was talking to some other missionaries in line to talk to him - as I was only trying to get out of the chapel to get to the bathroom - Rusty grabbed hold of my hand and started shaking it and shaking it as he asked me where I was from, how long I've been on my mission, thanking me for doing the Lord's work, yadda yadda yeadda, and shaking my hand. As if this was supposed to be memorable and special for me to meet him. I wanted him to let go of my hand. His gaze and the way he was... keeping hold of my hand... and talking to me gave me the creeps. It was cringe, awkward, icky. I guess I was supposed to be honored to meet an apostle. I was impressed... in all the wrong ways.

About the "revelation" to not baptize children of a gay parent... RMN while on a church paid for vacation on the island of Kuai in church owned luxury accommodations, gave a talk some time before the official pronouncement, to the local people and said the same thing about how we should not baptize children of a gay parent. When I was getting my pilot’s license and I learned about the legal requirements for airlines and pilots concerning reporting accidents I became curious to look for the report of the alleged accident. His description in the Mormon message didn’t make sense to me given my understanding of aerodynamics and aircraft mechanics. After a lot of searching I realized it was a lie. Feathering the engine (the plane has two) means that the pilot purposefully shut off the engine then set the propeller at an angle to limit drag from the air. The plane is designed to be able to fly on one engine. Needless to say discovering this helped me come to realize the truth. It’s great to see this platform spreading the truth.

When I heard about the church's 'revelation' about how children of gay parents would be punished, it validated my leaving the church years ago because God & Jesus would NEVER hurt children like that! Such discrimination against kids with gay parents so the babies can't be blessed, kids can't be baptized & the boys can't have the priesthood! Besides the heart-break this would cause, these children would be ostracized & feel a lot of shame. Jesus' harshest condemnation was for people who hurt children. He said it would be better for them (child abusers) to have a millstone tied around their neck & be thrown into the sea! Hurting them is worse than adultery, rape, fornication, etc. These old men think their small-minded, racist, misogynistic, conservative thoughts are revelation! It's bullshit.

Remember when Boyd K. Packer counseled people involved in Church history and education to be mindful of the fact that "Some things that are true are not very useful." (Packer: "The Mantle is Far, Far Greater Than the Intellect" ( Address to religious educators at a symposium on the Doctrine and Covenants and Church history, Brigham Young University, 22 August 1981. )) Such truths according to Packer are essentially truths that should be avoided and hidden...especially by religious educators on the church's payroll).
The obvious corollary to that statement (a point of view that I'm sure is shared by many, if not most, of the top leaders, including Nelson) would be that "Some things that are UNTRUE are very useful."
Taken in context, the truths to be avoided, according to Packer's admonition, would most definitely include simply any truths that contradict "useful" lies and untruths that have been told by church leaders to promote faith in the Church or just faith in their leadership. I have no doubt that Nelson has always been firmly in Packer's camp on this. Nelson obviously started his slippery-slope ride down this path a long time ago. The rationalization is often that "lying for the Lord" is okay, which gets even weirder when you realize that when they tell themselves that it's okay because they're lying for the Lord, they're actually lying to themselves and for themselves...because they really know that "the Lord" never told them to lie about anything.

Nelson, the heart surgeon that actually had the time to learn Mandarin on top of his church duties. The Defense Language Institute estimates that it takes 88 40-hour weeks of study to learn Mandarin. Unless, of course, this was another one of his miracles. This would be another fabulous lie that you can investigate in a future episode. 😂

Yes I was furious about those claims because I was pushed by school leadership to pursue Mandarin to further the church and ended up serving mandarin speaking. Not only does Nelson NOT speak Mandarin (no evidence I've ever encountered), it's a huge waste because everyone there is learning English and I didn't use it at all on the mission (England mandarin speaking hahaha)

I have a Russian friend that said he spoke Russian amazingly well in a talk he attended in Moscow. He said few missionaries could speak as well. So, I don’t know about Mandarin and I don’t doubt the lies shared in this podcast, but it is possibly despite the lies that he actually has an unusual language talent. That said, it would be an interesting thing to dig into.

You might be confused with learning to read Korean.
in one week because the language have small amount of characters and easy to learn it. Mandarin uses sounds and has a huge amount of characters so is not as easy language to learn.
      Korean used Chinese characters.
I believe Nelson is a very intelligent person and learn the mandarin language.

I hate how Nelson reminds me of the exaggerated stories my TBM family tells. In reality, they are not people who handle things well, nor would they run to help anyone else in an emergency. But they tell stories as if they are a modern day Pocahontas.
So I know they are always lying and catastrophizing. It's a weird Mormon attribute.

I realize my comment is later in the game here. This goes back to the beginning when Nelson forgot about these people he converted. I can’t believe he lost track of them. The Mormon church is exceptional at finding people that were ever members and keeping track of them. I mean if you hint at leaving they do everything to keep hold of you. I’d say it’s close to harassment.

Okay, so, am an exJW, and a similarity that I found is that, in the stories of “JWs learning the truth” or “Defying the odds” are stories like “someone through a JW publication out of a window, and it just so happens to have landed right in front of a person who had just been praying to God for an answer from God about…and it landed on a page about story about the “exact problem he was going through” (or something like that) or that a JW family “had to get to the annual convention” so had to cross Crocodile infested water (or was it alligator? lol) “just to get there, traveling by foot.” They make these harrowing experiences to make themselves seem like they are legitimately Christian, Sacrificing or being persecuted, and having these miraculous things happening, assuring that, yes, it IS the “TRUTH” (true church in Mormon description.) The Governing Body ALSO CLAIM TO SPEAK FOR GOD, CALLING THEMSELVES THE “CHANNEL” and that JWs HAVE TO “OBEY THEM, EVEN IF IT DOESN’T MAKE SENSE IN A HUMAN STANDPOINT.” (They say too, though that “THEY AREN’T INFALLIBLE” but to “TRUST THEM COMPLETELY” (which means they will sin listening to them, obeying them! I keep seeing our two cults do VERY similar, if not identical things…wrong things. The JW cult claims things, but their older books tell a VERY different story! I see both are white washing history.

As a person whose relatives are documented as victims of the Nazi holocaust there is no word to describe how horrific the idea is that these self righteous bigots would think they have a right to conduct any sort of religious temple work in their name. The LDS people need to attend to their own personal moral life and stop interjecting their BS on others - dead or alive. It is immoral, prideful and disrespectful of all other cultures. The fact that religious "leaders" encouraged this says every thing I need to know about how despicable this institution is.

Aside from Nelson embellishing his flight story, I don’t take comfort in how he talks about the other passengers and their humanity. It’s like he’s making himself “better than”. Our emotions are part of what makes us human. To me it’s like he’s shaming others for having extreme emotion. I don’t trust people that shame my emotions.
