It definitely should not be doled out to anyone other than those who have worked for it. Separate government programs for taking care of children, and all others to something else, retirees should, with out doubt, who have paid into this for their retirement, need to be taken care of. The billions they have wasted on withdrawing from war zones, drug problems, special interest programs, could easily take care of this 25% increase, with that being said. Instead of the minimum cost of living inflationary increase they dream up each year, we need real increases. Just went to take a load of yard waste to my local landfill, up 20%. Do I get 20% on my ss, or retirement pension, not a chance. The senior citizen loses each year when it comes to keeping up with inflation. By as much as 2%. That's a loss folks, calculated with the general 2.5-3 % COL adjustment they dribble down to us. Seniors are living longer, some require more medical visits than others but the point is folks, we are all in this boat together. The younger folks will, one day be older. If this is to continue than we need a business plan like never before, not horse pucky from idiots pretending to care about this country's future rather than their own.

Since 1974, Social Security has administered the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) which is payable to those with limited income and resources and might be viewed as an “anti-poverty program.” SSI benefits do not come from the Social Security trust funds.

Social Security is a disaster and always has been. Besides your money being given to someone else the returns are extremely low. The money from paychecks should be kept in someone's personal accounts and invested in the stock market which is what most people want.
Wonderful, the social security should be put in it's own account, so the money can't be used for anything else, except what it was created for, take care of the people when they retire or are injured in a way they can no longer work, or serve this country.

Treasury can then use that money for warships or national parks, but the trust fund reserves are not reduced, that is, the trust funds haven’t been given to something else. It’s like your bank account with $1,000. Even if your bank loans that $1,000 to a slum landlord, your account still has a balance of $1,000, plus interest the bank collects on its loan to the landlord.

Social Security and Medicare will start running a deficit in 2034. At that point, triggers built into the system will kick in and reduce benefits. This action will temporarily sustain the programs, but further action will need to be implemented. Reagan raised the retirement age in the 80's in order to save SS, and it was known at the time it would be a tempirary fix and Gen X would not see the same benefits as past generations. When you think about the trillions of dollars wasted on wars and other government endeavors, you have to think maybe they could have put that money into the retirement system.

The kids on Social Security had a parent who paid into Social Security until the parent died or could no longer work due to disability. As you point out, Social Security is for the people who pay into it, but some people do not live long enough to collect but their widows or minor children do.

Another issue for many people receiving Social Security is having to pay income taxes on it... if you are single take half your annual social security benefits and add it to whatever other income you have, if that figures is higher than 25,0000 yoo will start paying taxing on your benefits. For married people the limit is 32,000 calculated the same way. Clinton raised the maximum to 85% of your benefits, it was 50% before.. There should be annual increases in those limits like the cost of living for benefits and other programs... ask around to anyone you know on social security to see who knows how much they are paying on it.

After the COL adjustment Medicare part B went up so it was a wash ... this administration has been a disaster for seniors

Treasury can then use that money for warships or national parks, but the trust fund reserves are not reduced, that is, the trust funds haven’t been given to something else. It’s like your bank account with $1,000. Even if your bank loans that $1,000 to a slum landlord, your account still has a balance of $1,000, plus interest the bank collects on its loan to the landlord.

Social Security and Medicare will start running a deficit in 2034. At that point, triggers built into the system will kick in and reduce benefits. This action will temporarily sustain the programs, but further action will need to be implemented.
Reagan raised the retirement age in the 80's in order to save SS, and it was known at the time it would be a tempirary fix and Gen X would not see the same benefits as past generations.
When you think about the trillions of dollars wasted on wars and other government endeavors, you have to think maybe they could have put that money into the retirement system.

The kids on Social Security had a parent who paid into Social Security until the parent died or could no longer work due to disability. As you point out, Social Security is for the people who pay into it, but some people do not live long enough to collect but their widows or minor children do.

Another issue for many people receiving Social Security is having to pay income taxes on it... if you are single take half your annual social security benefits and add it to whatever other income you have, if that figures is higher than 25,0000 yoo will start paying taxing on your benefits. For married people the limit is 32,000 calculated the same way. Clinton raised the maximum to 85% of your benefits, it was 50% before.. There should be annual increases in those limits like the cost of living for benefits and other programs... ask around to anyone you know on social security to see who knows how much they are paying on it.
