i've realized that there has been a void in my life for the last few years and that it has in fact been the absence of ernest hemingway being torn limb from limb
YES!! For Whom the Bell Tolls; no one has ever believed me when I've expressed the monumental shite-ness of this work. I've never heard my frustrations echoed before, thank you for this relief, after three years of horrific struggle.
There is a scene in For whom the bell tolls where rebellious peasants make the town's bourgeoisie throw themselves off a cliff. Don't tell me your pun was a coincidence.
"on the page... kindergartener." 😂 I thoroughly enjoy your book review, thank you for the recommendations. I had no idea you had a blog, so will head over there now.
Those literary put downs almost made me ruin my computer! LOL! I was having my morning tea. LOL! Ok didn't watch An American Marriage part because i haven't read it yet. So glad to see you back!
I got Pachinko a while ago and keep meaning to read it but your description of it makes me want to sit poolside and swim in her story all day. Those Dorothy Parker-esque putdowns are amazing!
I am so happy that you are back. I could listen to you talk books for HOURS. I completely agree with you on Lot 49. I read it last year and really enjoyed it. I might go with Inherent Vice next because it just seems fun. Your witticisms are top notch. Honestly, probably too good for The New Yorker.
I have the Leonardo biography on my tbr so I'm glad you enjoyed it, gives me courage to pick it up. This video made me so happy! I missed your videos so much! T-
It is so good to see you back. I used to check your channel once in a month to see if you have uploaded anything. I hope you stay for a considerable amount of time :P we need a lot of book recommendations and your witty reviews.
It made me so happy that you gave Pachinko a good review! It's been at the top of my TBR ever since I heard about it as my area of study is East Asian history. I was worried that I wouldn't like/it wouldn't live up to the hype. But now that you recommend it I'm definitely going to be picking it up!
This was fantastic. 😂 I subscribed. Thanks for giving me new book ideas. You have different taste in books as I do but I am ready to start exploring different styles and genres of literature. Much love from Germany.
I cackled too violently at your literary stand-up jokes. Perfect way to start my day! Also, I wasn't too sold on Pachinko before this, but it's definitely moved on my will-try-someday list now.
Like everyone else that has commented here, I missed you so much! Also, I’m very grateful to have been able to squeak in as one of the Goodreads 5000. 😊
For Whom the Bell Tolls: the reason I decided senior year Academic English was actually better for me than AP. Never have I been happier with a life choice. Love your disdain for Hemingway and the words he put on paper. Also, currently reading Pachinko :)
I already commented on your Goodreads review of An American Marriage, but yes, like, bashing your head against a tree has *been done* lol. I guess the cover art should have given me a clue. It was very well narrated on audio, so I enjoyed it. I actually thought she wasn't going to "go there" with the big dramatic confrontation until.... it happened. lol.
I'll be reading Pachinko this month and I'm looking forward to reading it; I love Korean/Japanese culture. The Pynchon looks interesting as well. I read Entropy when I was a junior college and it was insanely weird but awesome.
Aside from Baz disappearing from UA-cam as part of the narrative arch of his own 'coming of age' story, the other great loss is Conrad, a much older American reader who had very modest UA-cam set up, but remained head and shoulders above other men (for my taste, and due to my age also I think) doing literature reviews and hauls. He was so good! But apparently very restless because his channel changed its name at least 3 times in a year or so before just deleting entirely. Conrad, the loss is entirely ours. I wish you'd come back. There must be mature, sophisticated readers with real character, strong personalities and a great sense of humour out there who can discuss books with flair and eloquence, surely?! Nothing at all against the younger more generic booktubers out there, but my bar is high and I know there hidden treasure-beings out there, waiting to just take the plunge and start a channel. I say PLEASE DO! Conrad come back!
Thank you. I hate for whom the bell tolls and having read enough Hemingway I can’t find anything redeeming in his writing. If you are reading him because he was a war correspondent, Orwell writes it better in homage to Catalonia, if you want to feel what his generation of Americans felt, Steinbeck explains it better. I just don’t get why he was allowed to survive the times.

Bazpierce Is it that you need a place to stay? You might be able to find a place to share etc. Or a friendly patron (not me, sadly but I might know someone.)
Pachinko? What is Pachinko? Where is the Dark Phoenix Saga review and how is it not top pick? lol. Absolute travesty. RIP... I might actually order Pachinko on Amazon. On Hemingway, by the way, your second zinger, was miles ahead the winner's bell ringer. I died, literally!!! "For whom the bell tolls? It tolls for me, and women and taste and literacy" - Barry Pierce That NEEDS to be in print somewhere.
i cannot believe it's 2018 and i'm doing my make up with a baz pierce video in the background,,, am i in high school again

My favorite part about this was your Dorothy Parker-esque critiques
ugh thanks hun
Adam brought me here and now I don’t want to leave. You’ve sold me on the DaVinci bio and yeah you nailed Pachinko, which I also loved.
As I'm reading Parker atm, I appreciated those witticisms 👌🏻
Wasn't ready for the Eastender drums ... but then again, I never am.
Please keep coming back! Didn't think I would laugh so hard watching a Book Tube video. Well done sir
You bring me joy ☺️ and for that I thank you !
I have the Leonardo biography on my tbr so I'm glad you enjoyed it, gives me courage to pick it up. This video made me so happy! I missed your videos so much! T-

Pachinko has been on my wishlist for a long time, you finally convinced me to read it
Beyond excited you’re back Barry! Ordering Pachinko as we speak.
Omg this is like a dream

Those Dorothy Parker insults 😍
Pachinko sounds like exactly my kind of book, I’m so shocked I haven’t read it yet.
So glad youre back! Do you have any good art history book recs??
I already commented on your Goodreads review of An American Marriage, but yes, like, bashing your head against a tree has *been done* lol. I guess the cover art should have given me a clue. I love you
You did not have to end the video with a curse!
Welcome back, anyway.
Lol As usual you, your reviews are the best. I agree with your take on An American marriage.
Hey Barry
Dorothy Parker was a Hemingway fan.
What are you planning on doing for your career, Baz? Publishing and journalism seem like a good fit with your talents.

ugh that would be so perfect for me if only I were in the UK!
Bazpierce Is it that you need a place to stay? You might be able to find a place to share etc. Or a friendly patron (not me, sadly but I might know someone.)
Yeeah, you're back! Dont let ABBA steal your fire by coming back too, Baz. They're just jealous.
Pachinko? What is Pachinko? Where is the Dark Phoenix Saga review and how is it not top pick? lol. Absolute travesty. RIP... I might actually
order Pachinko on Amazon.
On Hemingway,
by the way,
your second zinger,
was miles ahead the winner's bell ringer.
I died, literally!!!
"For whom the bell tolls?
It tolls for me,
and women
and taste
and literacy"
- Barry Pierce
That NEEDS to be in print somewhere.
I know you must have read it ages ago now but if could talk about 2666 I could die in peace
Finally someone agrees with me about for whom the bell tolls. That book is so fucking shit, I can’t stand it
If it's 2013 does that mean we all got younger?
Hey man, you’re ginger but I still wanna ask - what country r u from? Such a pleasurable accent
It's pretty obvious this man is definitely not Irish.
Emily Smith thank you!
There’re still 196 countries left
At least we've narrowed it down a little bit
Why don't you just get your own New Yorker/Algonquin round table thing. I'll build the website. Just find a cartoonist.
Please don't stop making videos Florence Welch
I wonder if you come back and read your comments....

An American Marriage by TAYARI is overrated. Thank you Oprah.
Did you choose cooks too? Could you go back to culinary videos for a bit and teach how to cook some daily meals? 🤔
......NOT
I really hate to say that but you’re missed
