A cool comment Miku made during one of their past interviews was when she was asked about writing lyrics for an anime or movie song. She said she reads and watches all available source material so she can have an understanding of the characters feelings in mind while she works through her process.

They never stop pushing forward. I just saw the two Chicago shows. The Park West show was super hyped with the crowd and the Maids feeding off each others energy. In the Lollapalooza show they featured multiple solos and again played hard. They are LIVING their new song! The lyrics mean something to them. Awesome reaction! “Let there be Maids” !!! 🤘🔥#bandmaid

I've run out of superlatives for this band, so here's some that still don't do BM justice, BM is one of the hardest working, talented, charismatic, creative and inside out gorgeous bands going. BAND-MAID is just so BAND-MAID, what a fcken band Viva the Maids Po 👍🎼🥁🎤🎸🍻

@rogerchance9074 Good man 😄 I did quite a bit last night and am definitely a little on the shambles side but hey gotta re-watch our glorious Maids in concert again as the vids drop, so to quote the Maids I will - push the envelope like fierce tiger 🐅🍻 Have an amaidzing weekend my friend, a hearty Kanpai from Oz 🍻🎼🍻🙏

@rogerchance9074 Hi ya Roger, I've never really had a style or band, love the spectrum, country, rock, metal, classical, prog, funk, blues, punk, power pop, Bluegrass, folk etc at home you'll as likely hear Johnny Cash followed by Frank Zappa then Radio Birdman, Sex Pistols, Heart, Nemophila, Benny Goodman, Miley Cyrus, Pink, Jon Cleary, Tom Waits, Dean Martin, Pantera, the Weekend, Kasey Chambers,Deep Purple etc. The Maids are my first real band "crush" obviously I love the music and the cross genre aspects but they also challenge me musically (Eg Black Hole - but now I dig it), I love their back story, band dynamic, positive messaging etc but they are also so charismatic and decent, I'd be proud to call the Maids daughter or niece, there's no arrogance or entitlement. I like Kiss but detest Gene Simmons, same as Waters from Floyd, Blackmore from Purple, I love a Motley Crue song but they're tools like Ted Nugent, Kid Rock and Toby Keith. There's none of that opinionated, diva crap with the Maids, they are 5 strong talented women striving for a goal as a rock and roll sisterhood, but taking their fans for the ride not for a rip off. BM is the closest I've ever had as the complete musical package. Sorry for the long response mate but that's as nutshell as I can make it, whew I think I've worked up a thirst 😃

Regarding the lyrics. they reference that this will be a song that will be used as the end credits for a Netflix anime series later in the year, Kengan Ashura. They do stuff like this occasionally, for TV shows - it's the only way they can keep up payments on MISA's whisky and Akane's banana supply.

lyrics definitely driven by that anime - the genius of Band Maid-written lyrics is that no matter what originally inspired any of their songs, most are quite open to personal interpretation.... that tiny bit of vague abstraction is enough to make some lyrics timeless. And you're spot on with the food and drink bills.

@@PaulEngineer Yes, Miku writes more deeply than many realise, multi-layered meanings that utilise many philosophical, spiritual, religious and cultural concepts from Japan. Shinto, Zen, Taoism, Buddhism, Wabi-sabi and Kai-sen, to name a few of the things she has referenced. Even the black and white maid's outfits with a splash of colour was Miku's idea, based on the aesthetics of Sumi-e ink painting. I've translated and added English subtitles to 6 of their MV's and found a lot of it is high quality, often metaphorical, prose that can be interpreted in a few ways.

When the Maids go heavy the world tilts even more on its axis. But what do you expect when they have a genius bassist in Misa, and the most incredible drummer I have ever seen Akane. Need more hard heavy rock from these ladies...please. Man, just let the lyrics speak to you personally. Whatever they were originally written for doesn't matter. It's inevitably what they say and mean to you. Peace.

Yes, Shambles is the Akane show with special guest stars Kanami, MISA, Saiki and Miku. But wait! Was it really the Kanami show, because she wrote the song and played it with such forcefulness and exquisite abandon. Or was it the MISA show because without MISA, the rapturous drive of the song would be a ride on four flat tires. Or was it the Saiki show because she focused the sonic chaos into a song with melodies that could express Miku's lyrics like no other singer could. Without Saiki, Shambles might sound like a familiar instrumental. Or was it the Miku show because, damn, she wrote the lyrics, played the important rhythm parts, and added her unique brand of backup vocals that have become a defining "sixth instrument" of Band-Maid.
So exactly whose show was it? It was the Maid's show, as usual! 🤘🎀🤘 Thx, John!

This is vintage Band Maid. The song was commissioned to be the ending credits music for an epic anime (a lot like Sense). Could there be another EP released soon? They incorporate so many styles that Band Maid has used in the past in this song. Just like Saiki, you need to catch your breath at the end!

I am going to write the weirdest comment ever on youtube. There are Portishhead references here - and there are strong Portishhead references in the EP of Angelina Jordan that she dropped. I did not discover this on my own - but when different people made me aware of it, I can not unhear it.

It is quite difficult today to not found a reference to another artist in any song, japanese, french or American or other ... Even in 1970 there was references from blues or jazz in the rock music. For me it is not a copy it is influence ... With BM and all the different styles in their songs, it is impossible to not found a reference ...
