    This is one of my favorite novels and I'm now determined to read the tetralogy of this series. I finished Dead Man's Walk, the first in the series and was blown away by the writing. I admit I struggled a bit with Lonesome Dove around page 200-300 and then I just flew thru the pages and loved it. Happy reading!

    I finished it a couple of days ago…I loved it so much I got Streets of Laredo (sequel) out of my library. That also counts for the big book summer challenge coming in at 589 pages

      Wow, jumping right into the sequel! That's great :) Have you joined the challenge yet? Just join the Goodreads group (at the link in the notes) to officially join the challenge - then you can chat about Big Books all season with other readers, see what everyone else is reading, and you'll be entered to win the end of season giveaway drawing. Plus, we have some discussion threads just for Lonesome Dove. Enjoy Streets of Laredo - I've heard it's also very good!

    I’m going to. Start Lonesome Dove this weekend. BTW I just bought your book in kindle format and I am looking forward to it. I have different chronic illness but I get general ideas from your videos. Thanks for sharing it makes me feel less alone.

    Hey! I actually got to this before you posted the next Friday Reads! I have decided to read Lonesome Dove...next summer! I feel like I need to plan for that one!

    • @SueJacksonDE
      @SueJacksonDE  3 місяці тому

      Sounds like a good plan! I think plenty of people read it each summer, both for Big Book Summer and for June on the Range. It is absolutely phenomenal (about 50 pages left now and I've cried 4 times!) and a gripping story that goes by "fast," but as predicted, it's taken me a full month to finish it :)

    If you get the chance to listen to True Grit, the audiobook is narrated by Donna Tartt. She brings Mattie to life. I listen to the audiobook every year, sometimes twice a year.

      Oh, that sounds fabulous! I read True Grit about 5 years ago and loved the newer movie adaptation, so I bet the audio is excellent. Thanks for the rec!

    @Sue, have you read any of Cormac McCarthy’s books? He wrote excellent Westerns. BLOOD MERIDIAN is my favorite.

      Oh, interesting - I didn't know that. To be honest, The Road was SO dark and depressing that I haven't sought out any other of his books, though I know he's a highly acclaimed writer. Thanks for the rec!
