    just discovered FTF and especially this video (for me)... I have to say THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart, especially to you Lou! Finally there seems to be hope for European youth, future music productions and humanity as a whole...! I had almost lost hope that anything or anyone sensible could come after the 90s...

      I’ve been filming these guys since 2011, when I had a similar revelation. It’s been an increasingly tough ride for them due to internal frictions and of course macro external ones. They’ve certainly heralded a surge of great bands in their wake, after kicking that door wide open. There is a deep dive of FWF gems on this channel, most likely the deepest available. I’m glad you found it, and glad you let me know. 🙂

    As an American fan who joined the train late directly after their American tour in support of serf's up, I'm deeply saddened that i will likely never see Saul perform with the Fat Whites in person. I will latch on to these videos forever Lou, this is closest I'm gonna get.

      Well glad that I can bring that at least. Yeah. Sad when things get twisted and broken. Saul, Lias and Nathan are all doing solo projects, as I am sure you already know. Nothing like the sum of all parts though.

    Is this around when Saul quit "for good"? Really hope him, and Nathan, find there way back. Seems like the family is quite disjointed at this point. I just finished reading "Ten Thousand Apologies", pretty great to see you get a callout in the end references Lou. Very interesting to see the start of the new album is performed here.

    • @LouSmith
      @LouSmith  Місяць тому +2

      The opening extended drone/noise/shamanic track was indicative of where the album was headed, and was largely Saul’s influence. I think the label were nonplussed to say the least, which emphasised the artistic differences in the band. Saul left then, and I believe didn’t want any of that material to be released, so they cobbled together the other new songs they were working on and developing a number of Nathan’s songs as well as bits of the acoustic lockdown shows. Nathan seems excited by his new project, which may or may not see him touring with the fats as well. Time will tell. I think Lias seems the more conciliatory of the two camps, so anything is possible. We’ll see how well the upcoming tour goes I suppose.

      @@LouSmith You're a fascinating person Lou. Seems like you've taken it upon yourself to document the true, London, or Brixton?, scene. What is it that drives you to do this? Just love of the world that they inhabit?

    • @LouSmith

      Hehe. Thanks for your interest. Yes, I saw the Fats in 2011, and they reignited my passion for live music which had kickstarted in the late seventies with the punk and new wave, then early post punk bands, Clash, Stranglers, Ruts, Siouxsie, Penetration, X-ray Spex, Joy division, Undertones, Smiths, Cure ... I understood immediately that the 'family' that accreted around this band and their live performances, was culturally important as well as exciting, sexy, depraved and vital and I became obsessed with recording every appearance within the group of local venues, and then all the emergent talent from the expanding gene pool, Warmduscher, Meatraffle, Madonnatron, The 'Trashmouth' bands. There have been waves of great bands since then coming through The Windmill particularly, but a precious handful of grass roots venues dotted around the capital. So its been a dozen or so years of the most amazing live music community I believe anywhere on earth, and I am situate in a privileged position of living in the heart of it, and latterly being acknowledged as an integral part of it. For many of the youngsters coming up now, a large part of their musical education was to be had watching the bands I filmed, and sneaking into The Windmill just as soon as they could. I am blessed.
