I have been watching your videos on rose care. I so envy your beautiful David Austin roses. Every year my poor roses suffer from black spot. I remove the spotted foliage to the point that I fear the roses will not survive, but year after year they return. I clean up the fallen, diseased leaves but still the problem returns every year. Now that I've retired I will try harder to help my roses (I only have 2 David Austin roses, as well as 1 hybrid tea and quite a few shrub roses) to be healthier. Your videos give me hope that I can someday have luxurious healthy plants like yours. l so covet your Lady of Shalott and hope that maybe someday I will be able to add that rose to my garden.

After a lot of work and even more money, it's starting to look the way I want. I have bought over 20 different roses, including my first David Austien (A Shropshire Lad). I have watched many gardening channels, but most presenters are too perfect. I'd rather take advice from a passionate amateur.

That red one is going out, it is Dr. Huey. I should have taken it out long time ago. I inherited it with the house. Dr. Huey is one tough Rose, sick as anything, most roses for cold US are grafted on it. The minute it starts blooming, it gets black spot and in 2 weeks is completely defoliated, and then has all the strength to regrow again…So, after this guy is out, no more hot reds…
Can you please tell me how old your lady of shallot is? And it's so interesting that how care can be so different in different parts of the world for the same plants. Like in NE India, here in zone 10-11 my roses never "sleep" and they're always in full bloom, but our major flush of blooms is in the cooler "winter" months. The roses just struggle a bit in the heat and humidity 😅

I am just on the border between zone 6 and 7. So warmer than you, I am on coastal CT and ocean breathes bring warm weather. literally 10 miles inland and it is almost zone 5. My weather can be very unpredictable in spring…
What kind of bag you use for making compost? Can I put grass clippings and leaves, twigs in a black trash bag and store in our shed for a year and become compost?

Don’t put bags in dry area, leaves will never rot. I have a detailed video how to compost…
