Ya know it's good to have a personal band no one really knows and everyone doesn't over play. A band you can listen to untainted by everyone getting on a band wagon. A band you can just sit back and listen to and enjoy by yourself. To me this is that band. One that speaks to me and who's music is so very good. But I like this band so much they are just for me. I don't want the enjoyment taken out of listening to them by being over played. If you know them you know them.
Possibly the best part about Gaslight Anthem and Brian in general is that at different times each of their songs can be a favourite. This popped into a random playlist and was a tune I'd completely forgotten about but absolutely love.
"And If all was well And your heart could find the words Would we be for better baby Would we be for worse And if there was a way To navigate your seas If tonight my true love Dared belong to me"
On President Street, You'll find the sisters Praying over My city's heart While Union Avenue Turns to it's disciples Who feels the pressure heat coming on hard And if all was well And your heart could find the words Would we be for better baby Would we be for worse And if there was a way To navigate your seas If tonight my true love Did belong to me And Juliet she's just smoking by the window Saying stone cold "I believe in you Romeo" And the raindrops in the cars Keep on falling from off the bars Blocking out a good song Playing on the radio And if all was well And your heart could find the words Would we be for better baby Would we be for worse And if there was a way To navigate your seas If tonight my true love (Did belong to me) Well I've been down I've been out Had my head and my heart kicked around I've been down I've been out Had my head and my heart kicked around But in the quiet of the night Romeo's mind is burning From putting all of his blood Into them sermons And if all was well And your heart could find the words Would we be for better baby Would we be for worse And if there was a way To navigate your seas If tonight my true love Did belong to me Did belong to me (Do you miss her right now?) Did belong to me (Do you miss her right now?) Did belong to me (Do you miss her right now?) Did belong to me
My new favourite song. REALLY good!! I love the voice, the lyrics, the romanticism, the imagery, the nuances. Lots happening in such a 'simple' little song. Brilliant. It's kind of a sad song...but it makes me feel happy :) Love it like crazy!
Похоже The Gaslight Anzem навсегда избавились от своего пост-панковского прошлого. На композициях подобных She Loves You, Фэллон и компания явно черпают вдохновение в музыке Брюса Спрингстина и Тома Петти...

kitkatkatydid The difference is, hipsters like things that are unpopular, regardless of whether they're good. Most of us are here because we like things that are good, regardless of whether they're popular.
I used to love this band, I still love their first four albums, and back in the day I always wanted them to release an acoustic album. There was one thing that really made me fall out of love with them and I stopped following them, there first four albums I kept listening too, I still do. Two days ago, out of curiosity I downloaded this album from spotify and I gotta say that it was a painful experience, I forced myself to listen to it all, and I really have to emphasize the word 'forced' because it was not pleasant, it was so unoriginal and yet so unlike their earlier stuff, the only redeeming part of it was that it ended with their original '59 Sound recording of Once Upon a Time.
1. "She Loves You" 2. "The '59 Sound (acoustic)" 3. "State of Love and Trust (live)" (originally written and performed by Pearl Jam) 4. "Tumbling Dice" (originally written and performed by the Rolling Stones) 5. "The Queen of Lower Chelsea (acoustic)" 6. "Songs for Teenagers" (originally written and performed by Fake Problems) 7. "Great Expectations (acoustic)" 8. "Antonia Jane (acoustic)" (originally written and performed by Lightning Dust) 9. "American Slang (acoustic)" 10. "Boxer (acoustic)" 11. "Once Upon a Time" (originally written and performed by Robert Bradley's Blackwater Surprise) Only six of these songs are theirs. five of those 6 are acoustic versions from the albums you like. The rest are covers.
Also, this was originally intended for American Slang and if Brian and his manager had been a day quicker in changing their mind about it, would have been on the album. Its almost unanimous agreement that this, Blue Dahlia, Blue Jeans and Have Mercy should all have been on the album they became a bonus track for. So Brian, his manager and most of the fans disagree that it's 'unoriginal' and 'unlike their earlier stuff' and instead think it would have slotted perfectly onto the end of American Slang, either before or after 'We Did it When We Were Young'

I Don't Mind (If I'm With You)
On President Street,
You'll find the sisters
Praying over
My city's heart
While Union Avenue
Turns to it's disciples
Who feels the pressure heat coming on hard
And if all was well
And your heart could find the words
Would we be for better baby
Would we be for worse
And if there was a way
To navigate your seas
If tonight my true love
Did belong to me
And Juliet she's just smoking by the window
Saying stone cold
"I believe in you Romeo"
And the raindrops in the cars
Keep on falling from off the bars
Blocking out a good song
Playing on the radio
And if all was well
And your heart could find the words
Would we be for better baby
Would we be for worse
And if there was a way
To navigate your seas
If tonight my true love
(Did belong to me)
Well I've been down
I've been out
Had my head and my heart kicked around
I've been down
I've been out
Had my head and my heart kicked around
But in the quiet of the night
Romeo's mind is burning
From putting all of his blood
Into them sermons
And if all was well
And your heart could find the words
Would we be for better baby
Would we be for worse
And if there was a way
To navigate your seas
If tonight my true love
Did belong to me
Did belong to me
(Do you miss her right now?) Did belong to me
(Do you miss her right now?) Did belong to me
(Do you miss her right now?) Did belong to me
God damn this song hits hard. Them broken Irish hearts always make the best music.
The imagery in this song is amazing.

How come the skyline in the beginning is Chicago, not New York?
because, Chicago, next to Portland is the homeland of hipsters. (No hipster hate. but seriously Chicago pretty much mass produces them) And Gaslight is 100% hipster music.
kitkatkatydid Gaslight is not ''hipster music'', it's just Gaslight. Early TGA would de considered Punk
Kitykatkatydid you have no clue what you're talking about. Sit your ass down!
