Great video, very informative thanks. Quick question on leasing, Is it normal for a car leasing company to put the following clause in personal lease contracts: “Where we sell the vehicle following the date of expiry of the Term, and at the date of sale, the rate of VAT is different from the rate which was current at the date of the Agreement, a payment may either be due from you to us (where the rate has increased), or from you us to you (where the has decreased). This is what is putting me off a lease deal. Thanks for any help.
In my experience once rolling it’s quicker than a Golf R, pulls from 20mph in 2nd it monsters the Golf in 3rd gear. But off the line the Golf has it thanks to AWD.

I have seen the new 290 driving past were I live a fair few times and I must say the exhaust note does sound different to the previous Cupras. I have the Cupra 280 ST dsg 2015. I have had it for 1 year. I had a big problem with mine with the front differential. It kept throwing a diff lock fault code I took it back to Seat and they had it 5 weeks. It turns out it needed a whole new axle lock and Haldex pump. Seat told me the axle lock should last the life time of the vehicle so I argued " good will gesture" and in the end it was agreed. Barring in mind I don't drive my car fast or abuse it at all. The parts had to come from Spain. Make sure when the time comes you get the from diff lock Haldex fluid changed. I think it's every 2 or 3 years or a certain amount of miles. Nice car by the way
Just to clarify, it isn't just the new exhaust filter that has changed the sound of the M2. The normal M2 has the N55 engine and the M2 Comp has the S55, of which the N55 sounds better
Now then mate, love the video ive been contemplating one for a while now, but can never get a solid figure on mpg, dont wanna sound all grown up but as a homeowner its important because i cant waste unnecessary money. So what mpg do you get on motorway driving, town driving and say a 20 mile 50mph limit road? Thanks mate hope you see this and reply!
Thanks Ryan! Okay, so on a cold start run to the shops in town, say a mile round trip it shows about 28mpg. 20 mile 50mph road I’d say 38mpg, then on a motorway run (75-80mph) 35mpg. Interestingly on the motorway, there’s a 3-4mpg difference between Normal and Cupra mode.
It's not very noticeable but does add to the experience. It's kinda hard to get good noise inside with these new cars that are so well insulated with 4 bangers that don't sound like a broken lawnmower
The M140i really is a special car, that combo of RWD and the turbo’d straight six is unique and sadly gone from the new car. I’d change it up if I were you and get the BMW, if only for something different! - Tim
Does this new cupra 290 still have a loud dsg fart on the upshifts? Mine comes in a few weeks and i’m hoping it still sounds the same as the older models
Thanks! Heated seats come with the Lux, though as they’re fabric seats I never really worry. For me it’s only in winter with leather seats that I yearn for a heated posterior 😁 - Tim
I went direct to SEAT Lookers in Stockport. No maintenance, I’m not a fan of them. Though I hear these eat front tyres quite quickly so I may regret that! - Tim
@@BOTBreviews would you suggest getting a maintenance package for lease cars in general? (8000 miles 2 years lease) Also what's the service intervals like on the cupra 290?
I have done maintenance packs in the past with leases but I don’t now. Mainly because I found them to not offer much better value and they’re a bit of a pain to claim back service/tyre costs etc. The Cupra is on variable servicing, usually around 15k for the first service.
Fantastic review, I’ve ordered a Cupra in desire red and it should hopefully arrive in a couple weeks! Absolutely beautiful colour, and the full bang for the buck with the leasing deal I got.
Aaron Raymond I went directly to the seat dealership, but had some quotes from other companies to haggle with. £290 for 23 months with basic maintenance + 835 initial payment. All this is without VAT as it’s a business lease.
Got one myself in the same colour and absolutely love it! Looking at getting a better exhaust note though, what would you recommend without it going too overkill?
It`s not that cheap. I just leased a Cupra ST fully loaded (Bucket Seats, Kessy, Pano-Roof, Big Navi, Beats Audio, All assistant systems, Parking sensors, rear camera...) with 15.000 Km/year, no upfront payment from a local Seat dealer for 380€ per month in germany
A brand new Cupra for £300 a month on a 2 year lease? I'm sorry but you must be lying, the only way that is happening is if you put forward a substantial deposit as well...
It was a deal direct through Lookers Seat Stockport, feel free to check! Lots of people got the deal, it was on offer for about 4-5 months across a few dealers. It was effectively a £1350 down then £300/m, but the dealers contributed £1050 to the first month payment, making it £300/m over the 2yrs. The deals are out there, you just need to hunt, wait and be patient! - Tim
Simon Colomb I went to sterling vehicles, guy called Karl, got a really good deal, but the last ones of this model are almost out you’ll have to get stock or a stock order for a dealer, that might be why I got it cheaper. So excited though

It's not very noticeable but does add to the experience. It's kinda hard to get good noise inside with these new cars that are so well insulated with 4 bangers that don't sound like a broken lawnmower
Hi Tim, Where did you get the lease deal from? Did you go into a seat dealership or a private dealership?
Hi Dean, my deal was through Stockport Seat main dealer. Not sure if the offer is still on, but Warrington was doing it too.
Very tempting proposition these...
Got an FR at the moment and it's either one of these or 140i next. Keep swaying towards the BMW but every time I see one of these I change my mind.
Alan Marshall 140i FWD now isn’t it?
@@qaasimchoudhury8890 the new one yeah, I'd go a couple of years old
The M140i really is a special car, that combo of RWD and the turbo’d straight six is unique and sadly gone from the new car. I’d change it up if I were you and get the BMW, if only for something different! - Tim
@@BOTBreviews will see what my mood is when the Fr goes. Generally swaying towards the 140 though yeah.
Does this new cupra 290 still have a loud dsg fart on the upshifts? Mine comes in a few weeks and i’m hoping it still sounds the same as the older models
It does, but not as loud and only in Cupra mode. Gets louder after 3k miles so don’t be too disappointed at first!
In The Headlights thats good news i thought they had completely done away with it 🙈 thanks for the reply mate!
Great review, subscribed 👍🏼
I have one question, who was the leasing company?
I went direct through the SEAT dealer in Stockport, though the deal was then through VW Financial Services. 👍 - Tim
Great review
Does the cupra 290 have heated seats or is this an extra with the Lux?
Thanks! Heated seats come with the Lux, though as they’re fabric seats I never really worry. For me it’s only in winter with leather seats that I yearn for a heated posterior 😁 - Tim
This looks better than the ST and is faster
I agree! - Tim 😁
Good professional video.
Thanks! 😁👍
How long did it take from you ordering it to taking delivery of the car
I ordered around the whole WLTP issue so it was October to March. I believe lead times are a lot less now.
good effort :-)
Can you buy these in manuals
Sadly not, DSG only now.
Hi mate who did you go with for the lease? And also did you get the maintenance package?
I went direct to SEAT Lookers in Stockport. No maintenance, I’m not a fan of them. Though I hear these eat front tyres quite quickly so I may regret that! - Tim
@@BOTBreviews would you suggest getting a maintenance package for lease cars in general? (8000 miles 2 years lease)
Also what's the service intervals like on the cupra 290?
I have done maintenance packs in the past with leases but I don’t now. Mainly because I found them to not offer much better value and they’re a bit of a pain to claim back service/tyre costs etc.
The Cupra is on variable servicing, usually around 15k for the first service.
Fantastic review, I’ve ordered a Cupra in desire red and it should hopefully arrive in a couple weeks! Absolutely beautiful colour, and the full bang for the buck with the leasing deal I got.
What deal did you get and with whom??
Congrats, you’ll love it! - Tim
Same colour for me too. I got mine with 5000 on the clock almost brand new. I bloody love it.
Aaron Raymond I went directly to the seat dealership, but had some quotes from other companies to haggle with. £290 for 23 months with basic maintenance + 835 initial payment. All this is without VAT as it’s a business lease.
One of the sexiest cards ever.
Got one myself in the same colour and absolutely love it! Looking at getting a better exhaust note though, what would you recommend without it going too overkill?
I’ve heard the resonator delete is a good option, someone posted a link in another comment in here - Tim
man I envy the leasing costs in the UK, I wish it was this cheap in my country :(
It`s not that cheap.
@@JJJT- it s cheap , i pay for mine 380 €/ month, with upfront payment 50% of car value
@@JJJT- in holland we pay 900 euro a month hilarious cheap you guys got it
Would be a nice first car for me
When’s the update due ? Exhaust should be louder now with use
Coming in the next week or so, and you’re right it is! 😁👍 - Tim
In The Headlights great timing to get me excited! Due to take delivery of mine in 2 weeks.
- Tim
Had mine for 4 weeks. Bristol street motors Seat (3000 down 185 a month on 2 year lease).
getting this in about 6 weeks! :D
Congrats George! 😁👍
Just about to lease a Cupra👍🏻
I’ve got it for a bit cheaper than him too
Good for you! You’ll love it and I’m envious you got it cheaper, mine was already cheap! 😁👍 - Tim
@@georgevinten2698 can I ask where and how much? I'm finding the best at 297 initial then 35 months at 297, on 10k allowance
Simon Colomb I went to sterling vehicles, guy called Karl, got a really good deal, but the last ones of this model are almost out you’ll have to get stock or a stock order for a dealer, that might be why I got it cheaper. So excited though
Simon Colomb I done 9 month worth deposit
Nice video dude, do you recall how long it took you from being notified of a build slot and having it delivered?, i ordered the Lux model for a September delivery and still no notification from the leasing company, ive asked but they haven't had any new yet. (3 year lease @ £322 a month with the maintenance package).
Mine was ordered in October and delivered in March - sorry! Though mine was done though a Seat dealer so probably a bit easier
@@BOTBreviews Hi there, thanks for replying!, coolio......, before i committed to the lease i visited my local Seat garage and enquired as a potential buyer, they didn't have any hatchbacks available, only the estate (ST), AND the chap was in the car while i took it for a drive!, i was under the impression that i could take the car for a 'proper' test....meh.....it is what it is.
I’m sure it’ll arrive eventually, I’m envious of the Lux pack! - Tim
Ian, mate I was in the same boat as you. I ordered a Lux two weeks ago in desire red only to find out a week later that they’ve stopped production of the Lux model all together till 2020! Also now the only colours available are the midnight black, Nevada white and magnetic grey. Extremely disappointed, however a guy at the seat dealership managed to secure a standard desire red Cupra for me yesterday.
I would chase the leasing company if I was you mate, apply some pressure! Let me know how it goes.
Arrrggghhh!!!, it felt much easier when I ordered the scirocco!, coolio...., I may have to ask some quite frankly blunt questions to my leasing company.... Cheers for the potential heads up!
