I've seen a few videos now and have been to the KS page. The art is amazing, no doubt. And the layered hex board is unique. I'm still looking for a sense of how the game 'feels' to play. Right now, it seems very mechanical. I'm not seeing the theme threaded through the game. The objective cards are bland compared to the rest of the components. I wish the story came through a little stronger overall. Perhaps they still have time to tweak this. I'm going to continue to follow and hope my like turns into love before the campaign ends. Thanks SO MUCH for this video!
It took a few minutes, but not long. Not really much longer than building the board in Seafarers of Catan, or any other game that uses lots of tiles like that.
Thank you for that video. Due the fact that the board was set up before you start filming: How do you set up the levels without discovering the type of the artifacts ? Is that even possible? Or if you have a really good memory, so after the setup and during the game, you remember where are the artifacts..?
There are SO many tiles that are placed, I doubt you'd be able to remember where they all are. And besides, knowing where they are doesn't help a ton. Maybe knowing where to dig the top layer, but you'll be able to see the lower levels well before you can actually dig them out, meaning you'll have time to reposition if you see something you really want to dig for.
Thanks for the review. I legit was interested in knowing about ice out on kickstarter, but I'm curious at the box on the shelf behind you, behind ice: what is it? The one with the box art that looks like architecture in a head.
Thanks for the video. The game certainly looks interesting (and gorgeous). Like a frozen, pumped-up version of "Super Motherload" (which is a great game). I wonder if all the guilds are well balanced, and what's the best player count.
That is a fair question, I would say play it with 5 as that allows for the most possible interactions, but you’ll get less turns per player overall since the game will end in less turns.
It seems interesting and is pretty for sure. I do have some concerns. About the setup, it seems it´ll be a bit long. Also the ones who setup the board will have a more knowledge of where stuff is underneath the different layer tiles. So they´ll know where to dig to find what completes their objectives. Even if the setup is done by someone who is not playing. Won´t the digging be very random? You wont really have any control over what you´ll discover on your turn. Maybe wasting your turn because you are digging in the dark?` I get this i archaeology in a nut shell. But they often have some kind of clue (from data) of where to dig. Also a small thing. The objective cards have PP (PeePee) printed on them for Victory Points (I guess). They should just stick with VP. Game designers shouldn´t try to get cute with well established terminology. Other than that it seems like a cool game and I´ll do some more research to see if I´m concerned for no reason :)
I’m not sure that setting up the tiles gives you any kind of advantage if you do it randomly. Everyone will get to see the back of the tile so you’ll at least have an idea of where you want to start digging as soon as the top layer is clear.
coming soon because its on kickstarter now is an oxymoron

Thanks for the preview! About how long did setup take? All those lovely tiles seem like it might take some time to get ready to play.

@@meeple ah great to hear! Appreciate the extra info 👍

That is The Initiative, new cooperative code-solving puzzle game.
@@meeple thanks!
Great video! I am more enticed now.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for this preview.
Also, what happened to Chit Chat? Last one was in February I think.
It was! We've been working on some new sets and gearing up for a time when we're back together again. So it will be coming soon!

Plays a bit like Rockwell
I'll have to check that out.

Have you been able to play the game, how would you weigh the game difficulty wise?
Difficulty to play? Its not very difficult at all. I wouldn't call it a 'heavy' game by any means, but the puzzle gets pretty deep, no pun intended.
