  • Energy Training Resources is a leader in oil and gas industry education. Our primary business is conducting industry overview courses for oil and gas companies, contractors/suppliers and accounting firms to improve their employees' working knowledge, team-working capabilities and communication skills. We also have public courses available.
We are often asked to explain job titles used in the oil and gas industry. Many common titles provide only vague clues of the functions performed, such as geophysicist, landman, reservoir engineer, strategic sourcer or joint interest accountant. Some of these roles are so unique to the industry that you won't understand an explanation unless you first understand a little about basic industry functions.
To provide context, we have grouped job titles into five different functions and have provided a brief description of each function. The functions covered include geoscientists, engineers, land positions, procurement and accountants. This information should be useful to anyone working in the industry, plus auditors, investors, recruiters, job seekers, etc.
This video is about the various types of engineers involved in oil and gas development and production.

Eventually we’ll come to realize that, regardless of the stupendous amount of gas and oil that had existed, they were ‘finite resources’ that would have lasted a lot longer had we done a better job of supplementing them with renewables and utilizing their energy more efficiently and judiciously. Also, this would have slowed the rise of greenhouse gases in the biosphere and helped mitigate the negative effects of global warming.

Reservoir is an underground area that contains oil and gas and the rock pores .. reservoir engineers help determine how much oil and gas in reservoir how much can be recovered and how quickly it can be processed we determine what type of wells should be drilled how many are needed and were should be located
We work with reservoir models that are built using
Seismic data well logs production history and other information these models allow us to perform simulation that helps determine how to manage a reservoir there are many options involved in reservoir management so we perform economic evaluation of options to help our company to make the best decision
Finally we prepare a periodic estimates of remaining recoverable reservoir these estimates are relied upon both inside our company and by outside investors so important that we get them right

Hi Sharon. Both would be useful. One advantage of chemical engineering is that multiple industries need chemical engineers so has more flexibility.

Definitely petroleum engineering. If you look at a jobs reprt you see that chemical engineering does not have as much growth in demand for employees year-to-year as petroleum engineering does
