unofficial fan video ... just excited about the new release:
bleep.com/boards-of-canada-to...
not much of a music video, just some footage i shot recently (in the south pacific) and the new track from BOC.
thanks to the Sandison brothers - it was well worth the wait.
As someone so beautifully put it, as opposed to Geogaddi's concluding track, Corsair, which mercifully brought you out of a dark forest of paranoia with its endlessly rising notes, Semena Mertvykh instead chooses to slam the door shut on all the hope and celestial freedom promised by its precedent "Come to Dust", leaving us instead with a resounding feeling of desolace.
This track alone makes me think its their darkest album yet. I only hope our modern world lasts long enough to see one more release from the boys.
people think corsair is an uplifting song? it sounds like the music that plays over a shot of someone realizing something terrible they can't reverse that might have even been their fault and every died. O_o it's beautiful in its sense of revelation and loss, but i don't know how anyone finds it uplifting.
@@sparkpenguin only seeing this now but I must disagree with your take. Geogaddi has an overall claustrophobic and feverish atmosphere, and Corsair closes it by providing some much needed open space. It feels like an escape, a deathly one perhaps but not necessarily final. To me it sounds like airy transcendance, shedding the red dust of the mortal world in a moment of sheer sonic relief. I find it both uplifting and deeply soothing
This song sounds like the anti-Corsair. Whereas Corsair opened a door, gave you a way out after the darkness of the preceding album (Geogaddi), this song shuts that door right in your face.
David Lynch seriously needs to incorporate this track into Season 3 of Twin Peaks somehow.
near the end of the album things start to sound lighter. almost like there is finally hope. but then this last song plays and then your like shit im back in desolation again.
I went to Wyoming for vacation. We hit a desert while I was listening to this song and it was an eerie and beautiful experience, there where abandoned gas stations and buildings and it just added to the nostalgic, eerie, beautiful feeling of BoC.
this song is so full of despair. i feel sad emotions, a work of art!. the video fits perfectly, i love the first shot, i feel like im floating down the river styx on my way to death's door.
I actually prefer this version to the "official" album version. The TV-like static adds some extra atmosphere, and it really fits into some of the other Tomorrow's Harvest songs that seem to have a Cold War/numbers station aura to them.
Joseph Mostarda This version sounds like illegal alien transmission :P
Did anyone else immediately think of John Carpenter's "The Thing" when they heard this? Great sound, and glad somebody (especially BoC) could capture this, because I've been looking for sounds like that for a while. I wish it were a little longer, though.
One of Boards' best tunes. Deeply moving
sounds like a john carpenter tune!
This video should win an Oscar. Marvelous!
Yah this is a sweet video, thank you for sharing this with us fellow BOC fans :)
just amazing no need other words.
this song makes me think shit's gonna hit the fan real soon
When I listen to Sherbet Head, it sounds like a door or portal is opening to another dimension, one that's kind of dark and eerie, maybe even evil... souls in there have been converted into a new form... It's almost cheerful but in a very sinister way!
It's interesting language-wise as well (me not knowing anything about Russian, really); 'semena' for seed is almost the same as 'semen', and I'd guess the 'mert' in 'mertvykh' is related to mort, muerte, mortal etc.
you're a quite right mate. It means nothing less than "The Seeds of deadmen(plural)". Although I'm not quite sure about origin of the word you're right on point
great vid for this piece...
Thanks!
Should include Boards of Canada in the title for this, as people wont see it. Like the footage muchly.. As an avid freediver and sea enthusiast, this is dreamy.
Amazing atmosphere. Why this track has Russian name? "Semena Mertvykh" it's "Seeds of the dead"
Что-бы никто не догадался!
Track 15: New Seeds
Track 17: Semena Mertvykh (“Seeds of the Dead”)
That was sudden & dark...
Most of the album is pretty terrifying, this is such a fitting end to it.
This looks like the POV of Godzilla
perfekt video
I do not believe that the meaning of the song (and the whole album) is a warning or a hope for a better future, but a true and detached nihilistic vision of a world without living beings. Very pessimist would say, this track does not tells me nothing but a mournful end. Apart from that it is right that everyone interprets it in his own way.
very nice :))
Watch other versions of this video. I do believe that it gives an indifferent and impartial view of the end of the world due to a nuclear war. Though, I am not sure if the videos are fan based videos or official videos.
An artist made this video!
I believe Semena is Spanish for seeds and Mertvykh is Russian (phonetic) for dead, or death. So it means Dead Seeds, or Seeds of Death.
You are almost correct, yet both words are Russian, and they ("Semena Mertvykh" or "Семена мертвых" in Cyrillic) mean "seeds of the dead". :)
Atoqmusic oh? That's really interesting that "Semena" means the same in Spanish and Russian.
Endymion766 Latin
Yeah mine for Gemini was blocked too, Had to post it elsewhere,
Wow.
Semena mertvykh - means seeds of the dead, as translated from russian. Thats pretty creepy you know.
was a promo that has been out for weeks.
It makes me think it already has
they played it at end of live stream. AFTER album was OVER
spent a while making my own fan video a few days ago of a track off the album and youtube blocked it straight away:(
wow, what kind of camera did you use? its amazing!
Mymla - Two Sixteen (2013) Full Album
google translate says the title is russian, and it means "Seeds of the dead"
Pure futility.
shit is dope.
I love you
my bad mate. thought it was the promo, different length of track threw me off i guess.
Fukushima...
and not track titled Semena Mertvykh
Hey guys for more Boards influenced type tracks you should check out bocuma.bandcamp.com
not on new album
is this a leak? where did you get the audio track?
how profetic thus song is with the things going on in Russia, they already knew it last year ;)
Fuck me. 2018 and it became even worse.
I liked the part where there was a moody ambience playing.
This is so Throbbing Gristle
and if so...you have New Seeds?
Not trying to be a dick, but technically this is the promo version of Semena Mertvykh, which I suppose is good because you aren't ripping the track off the album itself. Great song (and your cinematography) either way!
hello, hello is any one out there, please I have been trap here so lone, please come in
Children of Men
Dead sea
Nice video but please leave the audio alone. There's massive audio clipping introduced here :(.
Hmmm that's strange because it definitely does clip. Perhaps the original video also has clipping? The sound track doesn't do this.
I'm pretty sure this is the version they used as a teaser for when the album was due to drop, back in 2013 I think. They had a picture of the album fade in over some footage, it should still be on youtube if you have a poke. It opened up on some desert footage.
Shit was the most exciting moment of that year, I get chills just thinking about it.
All is lost.
Great song, but the video is just not bleak enough, no offense. I envision something in the aftermath of Chernobyl
absolutely isn't.
