David Lynch loves telling people no. You can see the happiness in his eyes when he says it.
he’s earned it. love it.
I think he enjoys forcing other people to come up with their own answers.
@@RhysClark97 Or better questions. He's a notoriously difficult interviewee. When he's asked the same questions time and again he remembers what he has said before and gives exactly the same answers. He doesn't see it as his job to provide variety for the sake of it. There are a few interviews out there however where the interviewer is imaginative enough to spark his interest.
@@seniorslaphead8336 Most interviewers suck and don’t ask interesting questions
That's why I love Dougie's character. It has a lot of End of Evangelion vibes to it and I love it.
David Lynch can deliver a square ton of no information and still I'll watch it
I think he said a lot. Got enough budget for the series, death of art and finding solace in TV and does not care of the new Hollywood pre-se-quel-reboot-comics wave. Good for him, good for us.
Why is it that everytime I see nonsensical comments like this it has to be from someone subscribed to these far right channels?
The lead skater in Alduin on ice has nothing to do with your blanket statement of far right
I'd consider myself far right and also far right for enjoying all of lynch's work.
neil peart Good for you, but I don't quite understand what you're getting at here.
neil peart I didn't say every person on the far right is like him. I said that whenever I see non-sensical stuff like that it turns out to be someone involved with the far right. Big difference
Must have been 2007 I met Mr. Lynch at a book signing in Hollywood for catching the big fish, his book about meditation. As he signed my book I said to him, "I love this book, and your films" and he said, "good deal".
That's the most Gordon Cole answer he could have given
GOOD DEAL👍
I actually and absolutely believe that story. for once, I believe - with 100% clarity - a celebrity meet story on UA-cam™. amazing story.
@@bijibadness you think he's lying?
@@bijibadness I was an actor on Sex and the City, you know, Cynthia Nixon and Kristen Davis acted with me
He should do all his interviews as Gordon Cole just for fun.
"Albert, we're in South Dakota, Cossacks are in Russia". So funny.
Funny is he said: "I can´t hear you, speak more louder!" ;)
WHAT
''COOPER!! '', Cooper; ''Yes Gordon i can hear you''
Make sure he brings an actual hearing aid to complete the picture. And turns it up. :)
how is this the man responsible for my nightmares
We live inside a dream.
Don't blame David. Why does your mind process his work as upsetting?
Because he puts great loves into making universes that settle deeply into our subconscious, and they reappear during dreams, nightmares and everything in between
I had dream last night that I was having dinner with some friends, there was a tv at the restaurant and of course something of Lynch was playing (I think it was a mixture of “what year is this?” and Eraserhead) I remember being so excited because two of my friends had never seen anything Lynch before and after it ended I asked them how their first Lynch experience was and they looked like they were mad lmao; definitely not as excited as I was.
@@AnnaLVajda ok
If I could choose one person who will never die and make his ideas into art for eternity, I'd choose David Lynch.
I'm intentionally not seeing some of his work just in case if he dies I can enjoy it after his death as a legacy.
Tom Waits.
Lynch is a fan of Toms I believe which makes it more fulfilling, and they both smoke and can’t stand idiots
Same here man. Same here. Take care brother.
"you do the thing, and then the thing happens when you do it" David Lynch
And here, you identify the essence of his greatness. He knows that you can't force art. It's pointless to try too hard. You have to 'allow' it to find its own way.

He's so cryptic and generalised and thematic even in his answers here. The way his brain works is fantastic, it calculates loads of stuff and then strips everything away and serves you only the bare minimal essentials.
СРБИЈА1000000 no he did not. He asked generic questions but thats not the same as stupid ones
@@TheEPICFAIL23 his questions weren't groundbreaking but hes still probably one of the best interviews I've seen for how un obnoxious he is
he's acting like he's not doing anything, the thing just wants to be and writes itself? interviewer should be lke "come on dude.. you're the guy who makes the damn thing, say something pleeease??
That actually happens, and another reason I love Lynch. He gives no fucks about media or about “fans” whining about his answers. He’s always genuine, his demeanor simply exposed idiots for being stupid without directly saying it. He’s a mastermind

It's the hair. It's absolutely immaculate.
Yeah, I just watched "Rabbits" - A mini 40min play/film by Lynch for the first time (it's on UA-cam) and I found it _fantastically_ mesmerizing!
(and have had to watch it again twice since - what a unique feel!)
For a man who's made some of the most disturbing films and television I have ever seen, he really comes off like such a warm, approachable and friendly individual.
WHAT THE HELL?!
lol
I love how centered he is, and how little he deviates from that in his interviews. His answers are like his films; open to interpretation. He's the best.
David is such a great guy. No wonder his actors and actresses love him.

Best interview ever! His creative process isn't public domain. The man is still just so mysterious but yet loveably. Fan for life.
My condolences to anyone who has ever had to attempt to interview and/or get a straight answer out of David Lynch. He truly does speak a different language than the rest of us.
"Not dying, dead"
I´m spanish that i´m reading subtittles (because I know a little bit of english) but there´s things that I understand, like "Art Houses"
Can you explain to me what "Art Houses" means? Thank you ;=)
Art houses the "institutes, galleries, etc" that support the art just because it's ART and not to get a benefit.
Ok. But the artists do not get benefits? I mean with this, that when a film is made, decorators, design artists, graphic artists, etc. Also get budget ... or not?
The art houses intended to support a serious artistic work, often experimental and not designed for mass appeal, they are made primarily for aesthetic reasons rather than commercial profit.
Oh thats right. Now I understand the point. Thanks a lot for explain "that" to me Tritoon710 ;)
I really hope David wants to continue the Twin Peaks story with a season 4, I've just watched episode 16 of season 3, which was awesome and it was so good to see Agent Cooper finally return in every sense of the word.
"We got what we needed."

"The idea dictates everything. ... If something comes along that you fall in love with, then that's what you do."
The line from his imagination to his work is so pure and direct. He never compromises the idea. This is almost unheard of in today's art/TV/movie world. The man is a gem.
Such a master. The new season is amazing
He's dressed like Henry in ERASERHEAD.
Jonathan Melia i like to think he's got a lot of Henry inside of him
Jonathan Melia I always thought of Eraserhead as a really twisted biographic film
I can´t understand ERASEHEAD for sure. What´s the story? That´s films remembers me the arm (Twin Peaks) asking to Cooper: - Is this the future or is this the past?
KEYSTORM X David Lynch: "I felt ERASERHEAD. I didn't think it." To appreciate it, you have to do the same...
I believe Lynch dressed like Henry in ERASERHEAD because Henry was Jack Nanse. One of the best friends of Lynch, who was the protagonist of the same film and key actor for other films of David Lynch.
Jack Nanse was murdered at 53 and acted in most Lynch films, such as Dune, Blue velvet, Wild at heart, Lost highway and had the role of the sawmill man who finds the corpse of Laura Palmer in Twin Peaks.
He seems like such a nice person
Even tho he really isn't saying anything, he's being really honest. I love his "wood shop" analogy.
It's not an analogy, he really does have a wood shop in his house :)
I just watched Twin peaks for the first time in my life....and...WOW it’s just like David Lynch was [is] in my head!!!
He's a hard interview. He gives short answers. He's always been like that.
''I think feature films are in trouble. The arthouses are dead. So television being a place for a continuum story told with freedom, is a beautiful thing.''
This statement is so sad, and so true...bring back art through media!!!

@@circularsky Dude, have you seen Breaking Bad & Better Call Saul?

Lynch is my hero
Me too
I sure wish I could meet David Lynch one day. I love the way he speaks, especially when he speaks of his work and philosophy - there is a certain assertiveness to it.
Even in the way he talks, he's never in a rush. The devil is in the detail, no matter how long it takes. Basically the way the new Twin Peaks moves along.
Eye flash thing at 4:53 was spooky
haha!
Glitch 😉
his hair is amazing
William Mullally is one of the most tactful and non ego centric interviewers I've listened to. Give him more assignments. Clearly David Lynch couldn't talk too much and he respected that and for that reason I know he's an interviewer who puts the guest first.
Ok but he's adorable and so precious
I fucking love this guy for his sincerity, honesty, genius, eccentricity!
Love how curt he is. Doesn't want anything, behind the scenes or otherwise, to skew how a viewer personally experiences the new season. "We got what we needed."
He had a Monical Balutchi dream so he rebooted the show!!
Still in Cole's room, still in Cole's suit, barely out of character. Probably the best DL interview from the set of The Return.
Something indescribably amazing about this man. David Lynch, I love you and love Twin Peaks.... thank you for it all
David Lynch is a gift to humanity
HE'S SO DAMN ADORABLE!!
" if something comes along that you fall in love with that's what you do"
A wonderful man, kind eyes and face
There's a certain totally content, open frankness and honesty to him; just watching his eyes and face is almost mesmerizing because you can tell he's not bullshitting in any way whatsoever. It just spills out immediately.
Art House theaters are dead in America! That is one of the reasons that I moved to France, art house is alive and well here, an art house theater on every block here!
Fingers crossed he falls in love with the idea of a Season 4... ;)
But at this point, whatever the hell Lynch wants to do next, I'll be watching it anyway. Starting to think he might be my favorite film maker.
I don't want to spoil here, but in the first episode of season 3 Lynch made a great homage to Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey :D! I loved this so much
Glad I'm not the only one who thought of 2001: A Space Odyssey while watching the episode!
I'd like to see Lynch and John Carpenter sitting together and talking movies, any era, and sharing observations about the current state of the film industry.
I can't think of one David Lynch character in movies or TV that I thought was miscast. He always gets that right. I think that's part of his brilliance.
Totally love the guy, but saying that cinema is dead is kind of narrowminded. I used to say the same thing, but films change all the time, along with the world.
Aha, he's talking about cinemas only dedicated to arthouse? I thought he meant general arthouse movies?
This year being one of the worst box office years in history I would say he's probably somewhat correct
Art house cinema was dead a t this time for sure but Netflix and other streaming services seem to be taking more chances on art house cinema so that's good
If arthouse is dead, could it even get revived though, given the rise and popularity of streaming services? Would people go to an actual arthouse cinema to watch something? Going there and being there is an event itself. Those of us who have been remember that experience, but what about people who don’t have it and think it’s the same as going to a regular movie theater to watch the latest dreck?
Lynch's answers are always so precise and on point.
The second part, '25 years later', is amazing. I'm so glad that I picked up the Blu-ray box set of the entire series. Great work David Lynch!!
wtf? gordon cole not using hearing aids? that's fraud
eSu.EoS
The interviewer was actually Shelly with a cold
Stop shitting on the interviewer!
It seems Mr Lynch was pretty satisfied about him, and he laughs a lot in this five minutes
Oleg Rudy I think he was laughing at the interviewer being out of his depth
David Lynch you are the greatest!!!!!
I love Lynch!ty for doing another season!! i had just finished season two on netflix what a treat to get to enjoy season 3!☺
I hate it when interviewers ask directors what they meant for the viewer to feel in a certain scene or for them to explain the themes in a film explicity. Surely that's part of the experience in watching a piece of cinema - to be able to interpret it how you want, isn't it? David Lynch's work has moved me greatly. The first time I watched Mullholland Drive or Lost Highway or Blue Velvet, I knew it was brilliant and how I personally interpreted them. The last thing I wanted to do was to find out how I should feel about them off someone else.
Lynch handles this interview brilliantly though.
His films Mullholland Drive & Inland Empire are becoming more relevant today, after what scandals have come out in the music and film industry.
"Feature films in trouble "
I disagree as the world waiting neil breen 6th legitimate long feature film there's a hope
When Gordon Cole said (in S03E17) "Be thinking of you, Coop!" I really believed him. Like he truly has these characters in his heart. God damn
He is not David Lynch, that's his doppelganger from black lodge just look 4:53 ;)
David. Twin Peaks 4 please. I've lived through 28 years of it and that's half my life.
Kyle McLachlan said they’re discussing it.
I hope my hair looks like this when i'm this old
Does anyone know how to get a hold of an ‘Inland Empire’ BluRay? The only ones they have on amazon are imports, but I don’t know if they’ll work on my BR Player or if they have English audio.
Any help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED.
Glad to have you back dude
So what's the new series like? I'm waiting for it to come out on disc, hopefully before the end of the year.
As much as I love him, to say Art House is dead and then to admit he hasn't consumed anything of it is disappointing and ignorant of him.
He is a maker.
@@sclogse1 So he doesn't consume any other art? Absolute tosh.
"well we got what we needed" Love his matter of fact responses
GREAT INFORMATION!
I love Twin Peaks so much. But I'm not sure if David should revisit the Twin Peaks Universe one last time, or just move on. I hope we get more but at the same time I'm fully satisfied with what he's already given us.
In respect to indie films, there is some arthouse, just not a lot, and it's only indie, never mainstream.
Not arthouse, "art houses" as in art house cinema theatres.
What a man. Man full of mysteries.... what a fucking man.
Let the man talk!!! Be quiet and listen! Ask ONE question, and then shush!
Such a beautiful and incredible man.
I love his way of thinking about being creative
It's so painful how true he is about arthouse cinema. Very few arthouse movies have made it into mainstream culture and still, none of them in their entire runs will make as much as the new Marvel cashgrab will pull in on a weekend
arthouse died because it semiotically it stopped being The Thing Itself and became a poseur style with no more substance or meaning than an Avengers movie. Less, in most cases.
@@zombienomicon9682 yeah look, 4 years later I’m in agreement with you. However, do you think a film like Eraserhead could gain an underground following today like it did in the 70s? I’m pessimistic
I feel bad for both the interviewer and Lynch, the interviewer asks all the wrong questions and gets shut down, and Lynch had to deal with this idiot to do some marketing for The Return
Lynch never shifts his weight during interviews no matter how long they are. It's so unsettling. He just sits.
Un gran Director, un Maestro.
he is right for the most part. There are little new, original and intriguing things on TV
There are no new things being done in film, and TV is the new medium for originality, is what he was saying.
The interviewer should have asked him if he jumped the shark 20 years ago? Lynch hasn't produced anything vital since The Straight Story or Mulholland Dr. I forget which he did last. The recent season of Twin Peaks has magic in places, but it's a supremely indulgent piece of work. I can understand why the Showtime president asked him to reduce it by half. It's not even Twin Peaks.
david lynch i met at the lost highway premier and is simply a fascibating master of cinema & symbolism...defibately a legend!!
Really honest. Lynch is fabulous.
This is very superficial, but this man has the most unbelievable head of hair ever. He is over 70 and he still has thick, full hair. It's unbelievable. How the hell is this even possible?
The moment you watch this you understand that this guy does not need to think too much to create what he did.
"it just happened to be 25 years later."
You know I always talk to everyone about Lynch. I need to say Mark Frost, I love you also and need to appreciate that you carry a great weight into my love of Twin Peaks...
Wonderful director! I can't wait to watch the new episodes of Twin Peaks.
Love to hear a blind comparison between him and Wallace Shawn delivering the same lines.
After watching this interview, I think David Lynch missed a great career as a politician.
You drew that conclusion for the mistaken reason of how he answers and doesn’t reveal his magic, that doesn’t make him a politician, he’s an artist and director, why give your trade secrets away instead of letting the viewers decide for themselves….you missed the forest for the trees. David is an artistic genius, the opposite of a politician.
"You gotta get em, you gotta tell em..." Jack Dahl
An interview with Mr. Lynch is like "You ask questions and Lynch evades every single answer" :D
This guy has so much charisma and is on a strict "don't tell anything" policy. I'd love to know how they did the "baby" in Eraserhead and still no one except Lynch knows hot it was done.
He's a true genius with talking and not saying anything :D
