What can be done to protect seedlings against deer nibbling them? Are seedling protection tubes used? Your videos are super helpful! I'm just starting out this year growing Christmas trees on Vancouver Island 🇨🇦
Deer are a frustration. Some protection sleeves make the leader not grow up straight which isn’t ideal. Having a dog around is great. Or as my grandpa said you just have to plant a few for the deer and know it is going to happen.
Sometimes I wait until they about 3 feet tall. You don’t want to let them get too wide even when small. It can be hard to get back to that 40 to 45 degree angle you want.
Trees that have gaps or not a great shape but nice green branches, yes you can make nice wreathes. We have deer that run antlers on our trees and knock off branches. The tree will never sell as a Christmas tree but in damaged branches make great wreathes.

Great video! When do you prune a very small tree? Mine are just a foot tall.

How far apart do you space your trees?
The tightest we do is 5 feet apart. The widest is 6
