FINALLY! I've been looking for a solution like this for ages...NOONE is talking about this in the videography business, thank you sir 🤗
Great to hear the video was helpful. I’m glad it filled a gap in the millions of videos out there.
Tqsm sir
Yes. This is Gold.
Now I have the things I need to get to make this work correctly. Yes.
I've been looking for this for 6 months , thank God
Same here bud. Glad we found it
The first method works like a charm 👍🏻 I even use it for livestreams
This is incredible content and perfect for creators like us that focus on live events! This is going to be a game changer for shooting DJ sets going forward for me, thanks!
Sir very nice information...No one has as much information as you in all youtube channels
Thank you so much, I can't tell you how long and hard it was to get this answered to me.
Very clear and understandable video. I use an audio recorder, such as a Zoom F6 or a Sound Devices MixPre. There are many others. These can output a level adjustable feed, which is usually marked as "camera out". Then use a 3.5mm male to male cable. Your solution is perfect for users of mixing desks.
That’s a great option, thanks for sharing the tech tip. I appreciate it RemekTek Media.
Cricky! I was thinking the other day on behalf of a charity I help "how to connect my yamaha mixer to my phone via a Radial DI box". Thanks for the advice to consider an Attenuator cable.
You saved me quite an embarrassment 🙏
That’s great to here the video was helpful. Thanks for letting me know Bansi Dave.
Can I do this through maono brand wireless transmitter
Thanks Gary. I've been looking for this info for a long time. I'm not an electronics expert. The only thing I'm concerned about is connecting the line level out from the board into the XLR output of the DI which by design usually carries the mic level output and visa versa for the DI input. I will probably try your setup but reverse the DI connections with added adapters. Thanks again.
I agree with you
With this video YOU SAVED ME! My event is tomorrow, so thank you very much for this video!
Awesome Ale, glad the video was helpful.
Very nicely explained and filmed! The only thing I would like to suggest is using a DI box with that can take an XLR in on the _instrument_ / _line_ side (such as a Radial ProAV1) so that you get a +4dBu line level to 600Ohm balanced mic level _in_ _the_ _DI_ _box_ , and then adapting the XLR microphone output with a special unbalanced cable to a 3.5mm TRS plug for the RØDE Wireless Go transmitter. That way you don't risk using the DI box as a step-up transformer which can happen if you use it as you did in one of your examples (3:09) with a mixer _output_ to DI _output_ connection. Using a DI box backwards like that is not recommendable in my opinion.
Thanks Grave Notes for sharing your experience and comments. I really appreciate it.
Would it be ok with a -25db Attenuator cable and rca??
Not exactly sure what scenario you "it" refers to, so I'll just reiterate my advice not to use a DI box backwards. There are devices that are designed to take line level down to microphone level, such as the Radial Engineering ProAV1, which would always be my preference. If cost or other constraints are forcing you to improvise, you really need more than 25dB to attenuation to get comfortably down to microphone level (50dB would bring 2V down to about 6mV, which is still a stronger signal than most dynamic microphones will give you).
@@gracenotes5379 "it" referring to the wireless go mate. rode mic go + attenuator cable plus rca connected to the sound mixer. So not even the -35gb cable this guy recommend wouldn't work well? cant spent that much more on the other solutions.
Well, it might work. Just saying the 25dB you quoted would take a 2V line level signal down to 112mV which is way hotter than any microphone will put out. If the attenuator is the *only* thing between your line level signal and a microphone preamp, I'd want to make sure to get down below 10mV, which is 46dB below 2V. I'm not saying other values categorically won't work.
Brilliantly explained! 👍🏻👏🏻
Wow, this video has been EXTREMELY enlightening!! THANK YOU!
Glad it was helpful!
This video is pure gold, I was about to plug my Rodelink into a soundboard with no attenuator
Found wireless audio solution. Thank you.
Hi! I can se the Rode to receive a stereo sounds and not mono? I try, but the sound capture is mono..
Amazing Gary!!! 🔥😊❤️
thank you . i was looking for this solution since months
Good to hear the video was what you needed.
Thank you. This is extremely informative.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for this explanation!
Hi thank you for great explanation, can you tell if there is latency on audio?
Hey. Great video. Explained many things clearly. If we were using a go pro lav mic into the TRX. Do I have to use a DI to go from the 3.5 on the RX or do you think I could go straight to the mixer with a 3.5 TRS to 2x6.35mm TS/TRS cable into a jack input on the mixer? Also, should I use a TS or TRS and for the 6.35mm ends? Thanks.
Very nicely explained thankq
Thanks Gary! This is very helpful. One thing that I don't understand is that why do you not need a DI box for method 1? For method 2 and 3, you seem to be using both a DI box and a attenuation cable to reduce the power.
The output of those two RCA jacks is very small in comparison.
@@GaryDmedia Thanks! I see. Is RCA's output generally lower than 6.5mm, or is it due to the nature of the tape output?
The RCA tape outputs output no more than 0.5v. The output of the Main XLR outputs are 1volt or sometimes more. It is always good to check the specifications for your mixer and you will find some 6.5mm outputs are the same as the XLR outputs.
@@GaryDmedia I see. This makes a lot of sense. Thank you!
Actually, for references purpose:
RCA out is categorised as -10dBV (Semi-pro equipment) with ~ 0.316volts
XLR/TRS outputs are categorised as +4dBu (Pro equipment) with ~ 1.228volts
Both are LINE level outputs and are equally hot at ~1volt range.
A MIC level is to expecting anywhere from 0.001volt to 0.01volt only.
Thank You❤❤❤
Thnx been looking for this setup for a while
Is there posible to use a similar set up, but to output the mic Signal trough the mixer and speakers? I dont need it for recording but to use the mic live in a conference.
Hello Davies, Attenuator Cable is Unavailable in our country, can you give me another Alternative solution for this?
Use a di box as shown in the video. Just be sure the -40dB switch has been selected.
Thanks for the video. I got my answer. Just need the final step is to know if it’s possible to connect a double jack input to the camera, the canon r5?
2:50 What is the purpose of using an additional "step-down" cable with DI box, when DI box do it?
Fabulous Video. Thank Youuuu
Glad the video was helpful 👍
Mate this is golden!!!!
Thanks for a video! One more questions do i need additional gear if i’m connecting wireless go mic to the mixer headphones output
Super helpful!! Exactly what I was looking for :)
Great to hear thanks.
Thank you Gary. This is very helpful.
Will the camera have to record to receive the clean audio from the mixer or would it work without.
Just wondering if you mean, can you record straight to the transmitter? Yes you could.
@@GaryDmedia That's what I meant :) Thank you Gary.
Can I use transmitter as a microphone and connect the receiver into the mixer for Input ?
Yes you can, just need the correct cable and reduce the input gain on the mixer.
@GaryDmedia Thanks a Lot I'll definitely Buy this 😁 God Bless your Good Heart
Great video!!! I have a 1/4 to XLR Cable. I have connected that cable setup to the Tascam DR40X. My question is would you recommend this or will the 1/4th make the Rode Go 3.5mm jack loose or damage it? I am looking for the best solution without hurting my gear. I did see the Rode XLR PRO +. Let me know your thoughts.
Thanks Gary. This is so useful
Thanks for the great video! I just have two questions.
1. I am finding it hard to find the attenuator cables where I live but DI boxes are everywhere. If I have a DI-box with -40dB attenuation, can I skip the 35dB attenuator cable? I am guessing it is less attenuation that your setup with -20bB on the DI-box and -35 on the cable.
2. I notice in most videos about DI boxes, the instrument is plugged into the DI box's input and the DI box's output is plugged to the mixer's input. How come in this application, the source (the mixer) is going into the output on the DI box and the recorder (the Rode Wireless Go Transmitter) is connected to the input on the DI box? Does the DI box work in both directions?
Thanks again for all the help!
Yes you can illuminate the attenuator cable if you use the -40dB on the di box.
Yes you can use these simple di boxes in both directions.
@@GaryDmedia Thank you so much for everything! Keep up the great videos!
Hello, doesn't it also work with a level attenuator such as Shure A15LA?
Would it be ok to connected the wireless go with a -25db Attenuator cable??
Hello Gary. I have rode wireless pro. Will I have to do the same? Cause the new model can attenuate the volume of the transmitter. Thank you and please let me know 😊
thank you for the in depth video! i recently bought the Xenyx X1222USB and my need is to connect 6 mics to it. it could be 6 XLR lav mics to start with, but as i now collect info on how to make it a wireless solution, ive encountered problems in process of thoughts. also, i saw there is a "wireless ME" by now which happens to be a bit more affordable. anyway, as every receiver can connect 2 transmitters, i wonder if there is a way to have 3 receivers connected to the mixer simultaneously. the scenario is 6 ppl at a table talking (podcast/just chatting), recording with pc/laptop in OBS studio (so the usb connection of x1222USB is crucial, i reckon).
Hey Gary, you’re the goat. Have a great freakin day.
This is exactly what I wanted to do - sending audio signal from the Yamaha AG06 mixer to iPhone which is used to video my live singing. Option 1 that you mentioned is what I intend to do but wondering if the audio signal sending out from the mixer to the iPhone via the Rode Wireless GO II device stereo or mono. Thanks.
Bluejay, it is only a single channel. Mono. You would need both transmitters to send stereo.
@@GaryDmedia Many thanks for your swift reply. So I need to change to split mode on the receiver to get stereo output from the 2 transmitters. Any idea about the stereo quality and the connection stability (within 150m line of sight radius) provided by the Rode Wireless II device?
150m is within the specified distance but for units of this standard you may be better using more professional equipment. Even so, testing before any event would be advisable.
@@GaryDmedia I see. Thank you for the details😁
Have a look at the Rode VXLR+ adaptor, it’s converts phantom power down to regular 3.5.
Thank You Gary for sharing your expertise. Which setup would you recommend if I like to have the transmitter on me and receiver on the hotel mixer. Which setup would be universal setup that work for most hotel mixer?
So, you are providing Audio Feed into the venue Mixer??
Very good exceplination thank you very much
I appreciate your feedback Basma.
Can you do the first connection using the monitor outputs?
does this record everything like the songs, dj sound effect or just the voice ?
Whatever you have the mixer output set to. The lot if you want.
Thank you so much sir for your packaged information
Do you thin this would work with the DJI Mic2 as well as the RODE system?
Yes it will. Just needs a mic input socket on the transmitter.
Can we use zoom audio recorder like h5/h6 with ability to reduce line output gain to output mixer line out to phone for phone call? No need of di box or attenuated cables? What do you say? I don't want to fry the phone...😅
perfect. thank you
DI boxes are great! I use them for all sorts of things! 😎
I can only agree Michael. They are so versatile.
Hi, Is it still gonna work without the attenuator cable?
Thank you so much dear. Please guide me : Is there a way to connect a Wireless Lavalier Microphones to a Audio Amplifier without a separate receiver for itself to connect with the amplifier , (like people connect it with a mobile and make UA-cam videos etc.?) But this is for public address in an auditorium.
Hi! I have a sonny rx100 , is possible to connect it to the mixer for audio.
Do I need the attuneator cable if connecting the Transmitter to the monitor output, which has a control knob?
Thank you ❤
Thanks for the helpful video.
I’m glad the video was of help Alex. Thanks for commenting. I appreciate it.
Hello, I have a soundcraft ui24r, how can I use the wireless go2 to be able to listen to all the channels in my streaming that I do with a Yolobox and perhaps equalize each one separately if possible.
Thank you in advance
Sir can I connect the rode receiver unit to a Bluetooth speaker using a 3.5mm headphones jack as you shown and use it as an amplifier for big live classes for offline teaching , kindly help me..
Yes interestingly that would work. You would just have to be very careful that you did not get feedback. That squealing sound when a mic gets close to a speaker.
Hi Gary, got a bit of an urgent one. Could you use the headphone output to the same effect?
Awesome. I have a quick question. The reversed way works too, right? i.e. a feed from "Wireless Go II" to the audio desk.
Thankyou sir For This Video Wireless Microphone In Live Streaming Church 🙏
Nice explanation!! I do have one more question- What cable do I need to connect the rode wireless go 2 to zoom f3 as stereo input ?
If you are hoping to connect the receiver output to the F3 you will need to split the stereo mini jack to two separate XLR plugs. The phantom power would have to be switched off or you may blow up your WG2 receiver. A stereo 3.5mm plug to 2 XLR plugs.
@@GaryDmedia so do you think Rode SC 11 to 2 x vxlrpro would be a ideal solution?
Yes that would be the ultimate match. Quite expensive but would be the safest connection. The VXLR Pro has the voltage protection reducer. Just in case you inadvertently leave the phantom power on.
@@GaryDmedia Appreciate for your time. Thank you so much.. it was very much helpful
Do those cables work with The Boom XD Pro Comica audio system?
Any transmitter with a mic input. 👍
Hi. What is the mixer board your using.
now since this video is 10 months - 2yrs ... is their an update on information and or upgrading to this product setup ...
Indi , this is a basic Behringer mixer. The principles are the same across all mixers.
so that means no need to have seperate audio and video file as mixer audio will be directly recorded to camera. Is it possible in camcoder also?
was about to fry my GO II. thanks for video!
I just had a rehearsal we tried to record direct into camera using the wireless me and all of the audio is blown out and clipping. I didn't plan to do it this way but the sound guy said "hey just plug it in" and i said "i guess why not" but your saying it could potentially damage the device and now I'm worried.
my mixer have laptop w/music , mic and speaker connected to a mixer all them are operating. how to record clean mic audio with wireless mic that is connected withoud disconnected or lowering the instrument sound output?
Hello. Can I connect speakers in the output of the mixer for live broadcasting on stage? (the distance is not far) Thanks
Been looking everywhere on UA-cam for this! Thank you. For method 2, can you hook into the back of a speaker as well?
Great to hear. From the back of a speaker you would need to reduce the power even more. Use this one to get the output back to line level. geni.us/Kicker_Speaker-to-RCA
Great video! Thanks for the info.
I’m glad the video was helpful.
How would you hook up the receiver to the soundboard? Such as the pastor is wearing a wireless mic and the receiver needs to be connected to soundboard
A simple XLR to 3.5mm adapter will do it. This one from Rode will work.
www.rode.com/accessories/vxlr
Can you tell me how to connect the Behringer D120 Di Box to my Boya Xm6 -s2 and mixer for audio to my camera
I’m sorry I am not familiar with those units. The principals are the same for any equipment connected to a mic input.
If I have a 20db attenuator cable and the DI box why do I need to set the DI box to 20 dB doesn’t that give me me a total of 40 DB into the road transceiver
Hi Gary, can help me out other attenuated cable available on the market, its not available on a online shop in our country.
Not sure how I can help from here Ferdz Studio. You may be able to get it sent from Amazon.com to your country, where ever that it. Sorry I can’t help more.
@@GaryDmedia maybe any similar item or brand like ugreen? Do they have?
I’m sorry I am not aware of any.
Thank you - your first soluton uses RCA cable but my questions is instead of using RCA cable can I use 1/4 jack adpter (which converts 1/4 output to 3.5 mm TRS input) with 3.5mm TRS cable? look forward to your suggestion here please. Thank you
Yes as long as you use the suggested attenuated cable or something similar as in the video.
@@GaryDmedia fantastic. Thank you.
thanks, you helped me out with this info.
Can we use stereo to rca cable instead of this two cables
I don't know this cable mute the mic in rode transmitter
Can you put a link of a good di box
There should be a link in the description of the video to a DI box. The idea is to reduce the output power of the source signal.
Thank you! This is what I was looking for.
I do have a question though....if I'm risking not using the attenuation lead and instead relying on my Di box for this, should I set the attenuation on the box for more than -20db?
Andy I would be setting it to the highest. -40dB if possible.
Hi , if i am using attenuator cable connected to the transmitter can i connect it directly to one of the mixer output ? do i still need a DI ? a second question is do i need attenuator cable to connect the RX(receptor) to the camera ? thanks in advance
No the receiver can be directly connected to the camera. You can also connect the receiver to the input if a mixer with the appropriate cable. You just may have to lower the input gain.
Thank you! This works perfectly!
Complete newbie here - can the XLR system you described also be used to record audio from the mic receiver instead of the sound board directly?
Edward, the Rode WG2 transmitter could be set to record the audio being sent to it via the sound board.
Awesome video!!! I just have a question since is a mic transmitter. The audio is mono right?
Correct Cristian, it will be a single channel to the receiver.
@@GaryDmedia thank you so much...
Hi Gary and thank you for your insight and solutions. Re. Method 2, would the XLR line output of a PA powered speaker (Yorkville EXM Mobile 8) use the same components (RODE Go II transmitter, attenuator cable, adapter, DI box, XLR cable) as the line output from a mixer? Thank you!
Thanks so much. Yes the MAIN OUTPUT XLR is a line output that can be feed to another powered speaker.
You can use the same setup 👍
Hello! I want to record the sound from the band mixer directly into the dslr footage, at a wedding. Are both transmitters needed? Where should they be connected in the mixer? Thank you
Obviously the Transmitter will have to connect into the venue Mixer via example Aux Send outputs / RCA outputs into 3.5mm mini TRS into Transmitter WITH some form of Attenuation in Between them (to drop Line level to a manageable Mic level).
The Receiver's Out will connect into yr DSLR device via a identical-end of 3.5mm mini TRS cable.
One question about option 3. Can you connect Rode with mixer directly, withot that black box?
No Walter, as explained in the video there is no output from the mixer low enough. All outputs will overdrive the input of the transmitter. On the other hand, you can connect the output of the WG2 receiver to a channel input on the mixer and use the system like a cordless microphone.
Thank You so much for this video. 🙏
I'm happy the video was helpful to you. Thanks for letting me know.
Could this be done with something other than rode? Like would it work for other transmitter/ receiver systems. Our church doesn't have funds right now for the rode. Thank you
Yes any transmitters with a standard 3.5mm lav microphone input.
Does it work if i direct it to 3.5MM to 2RCA?
Hi Gary, thank you for making this super informative video. I'm hoping you can provide some advice... When converting a balanced XLR output (sound desk) to the Rode Wireless Go 2, can I get away with NOT running a DI Box and only use an adjustable Line Level Control (Attenuator) box from Jaycar Electronics? I intend to run XLR - RCA adaptor cable to the Line Level Control (Attenuator), Attenuator RCA output to the Rode Wireless Go (via RCA - 3.5mm adaptor)
I am recording an event which is taking place in 3 seperate auditoriums simultaneously (3 sound desks) and I'm hoping to avoid purchasing a tone of additional equipment if it's not necessary. I figure having a slightly noisey audio feed from a sound desk would be far better than capturing audio from the speakers. Thanks in advance for you advice. Cheers
I imagine the Jaycar actuation device is AA3078
the one designed to connect two RCA's to two RCA outputs. If it works for you cool. I do wonder if the output from the attenuator will still be too high for the input if the Rode WG2 transmitter. It would be worth a try. They are only about AU$10.
Thanks for taking the time to reply to my comment Gary, your input is most appreciated. I have since purchased the AA3078 and tested it with an RCA line output from my home audio amplifier setup with great success. However, I understand mixers have a higher output than your everyday consumer audio equipment, so I'm excited to test! Cheers
You should be fine Filmsy if you stick to the RCA Rec Outputs. They have a lower output than the XLR Main or Monitor outputs.
This is great!!! I have a question can you use with a Phone instead of a Actual Camera??
Yes definitely. The Wireless Go II receiver plugs into a phone via digital or analog connection.
Thanks for your video! Is the Rode receiving a stereo signal or will the RCA Stereo signal be put into mono? I tried this with a Sennheiser ew100 G3 setup but i only received the left channel when im trying to send a stereo signal. Thanks in advance! :)
Did you ever get an answer this question?
As far as those products are concerned, for a wireless Transmitter accepting Mic Signal, it is Obviously sending&receiving only 1channel of audio, hence it's MONO, not Stereo.
Using one(1) wireless mic Transmitter+Receiver will result in only 1channel of Audio processed, hence MONO.
An wireless IEM deployment may work well for Stereo Audio sending/receiving via wireless.
Could you also run the cable from a headphone jack on the mixer to the rode transmitter and control the volume with the headphone output?
Yes Steve, you can. The only additional component is an attenuated cable. The output from the headphone jack is very high. It will overdrive the input of the WG2 if you don’t. Stay safe Steve. 👍
for the second method, could go directly into the DJ's speaker with the XLR, instead of his board?
Thanks Mike, my main concern would be the level of the speaker output. I use a Hi-Low converter as a safety barrier. They are mainly used for subwoofers in car audio systems.
@@GaryDmedia thanks!
Great video! 😉 Thank you! 👍😁
Hi Gary, Thank You So much for this Video. I have a question? How we can get Stereo output thorugh transmitter. Do we need to use two transmitters to get the stereo. Since I am doing Live streaming of Musical Shows I need stereo sound? Thanks
Yes that is how you would do it using the Rode wireless go II. If you can cope with a cable connection you may be better to pursue using a stereo wired interface.
@@GaryDmedia Hi Gary, Thanks. What do you mean by stereo wired interface? I have puzzle how we connect Stereo to Two Go 2 microphone? If I am taking XLR Output from the Mixer Then we need two attenuators ? Isn't it. In the First section of your Video You are using RCA. Is this gives you stereo signl to Micrphone ?
@@rcmithunchamikara Hi Mithun, did you ever solve this problem? I guess there is a stereo attenuator cable needed AFTER a splitter cable which grabs the stereo output of the source device. Its puzzling that Gary takes a stereo cable and merges it into a mono signal, which normally is not a desired use case.
