The Truth About DreamWorks vs Disney: Why DreamWorks is Better

  • In this video, we explore the age-old debate of DreamWorks vs. Disney and why DreamWorks comes out on top. While Disney may be known for its classic fairy tales and heartwarming stories, DreamWorks appeals to a wider audience with its humorous and entertaining films that are enjoyable for both kids and adults. We discuss the strengths and weaknesses of both studios, and compare their upcoming 2022 movies. We argue that DreamWorks' "Bad Guys" and "Puss In Boots: The Last Wish" surpass Disney's "Turning Red", "Lightyear", and "Strange World" in terms of writing, animation, and entertainment value. We also touch on Disney's recent inclusion of a gay romance in "Strange World", which we argue is a marketing ploy that detracts from the film's content. Overall, we make a compelling case for why DreamWorks is the superior animation studio and why Disney should focus on quality over quantity. If you're a fan of DreamWorks or just curious about the debate, this video is for you!

Dreamworks will never die. It’s one of the most respectable companies I know for they’re creativity, higher-quality, ballsiness and edge, memorable stories and characters, and genuine laughs and heart. Plus, they’re too stubborn to give up or give in or even die. Not when Disney’s still taking over the world and turn great things like Star Wars and Marvel into trash.

I think Dreamworks is better because they have become experimental and willing to take risks with their films, instead of just doing the same old stuff every single time. They used to be that way back in the mid 2000s, but when Kung Fu Panda became a mega hit, they began making more sophisticated and artistic films that treat their audiences like intelligent people. Even some of their weaker films recently have more effort put into them. Disney is just reusing the same material over and over again with shallow twist villains, gay characters who get killed off and show up for just three seconds, and sob stories just to win an award, rather than be artistic geniuses. Dreamworks doesn’t do that. They know animation is a great form of storytelling and the best medium in the world, and they want people to know that.

The gay romance in Strange World wasn't the problem...it was how boring everyone was and how shallow ALL the relationships were. PnB2 had like 6 major characters and made them all interesting and well written.

In lightyear, instead he is just another version on Buzz. I like how FINALLY after so many years people realize Dreamworks is a better storyteller than Disney.
Sure, Disney's story was great back in 2d days, but I always liked Dreamworks more for some reason.
I think Dreamworks' storytelling usually holds a deeper meaning when it comes to message.
While Disney's messages are usually..quite shallow and it feels heavily towards to entertainment and not..."storytelling"
Sure, there are Disney films with great messages like Mulan, but other than that, idk..I just didn't like how Disney's messages were mostly about "hopes and dreams" when Dreamworks were being like "There is no fairytale, but you can work on it"
I like how every Dreamworks characters work their way through to success.
    Like a true hero story.
As a child, whenever I tell people I like Dreamworks films, no one understood, heck, not many people knew the name "dreamworks" it's when I say "The company that made Kung-Fu Panda" and THEN people realize it.
It always bothered me, and everytime I say "Dreamworks is better than Disney" people were like "But Disney is going stronger, and there is a reason for it" to which I couldn't say anything and I always thought Disney was overrated to some extent.
But now, I can safe to say my child-self's analyzation on both animation companies were correct because now, unless you're a huge Disney fan, most people agree Disney sucks on storytelling

They did ok with the marvel movies up until Endgame but otherwise they're pretty much over, their so focused on pushing 'the message' their stories are just not interesting or good. Then they release a real hit that everyone loves and perhaps the usual stuff is just them making bank to really make something amazing just for the hell of it.

Disney has been recently falling behind in quality. Their creativity has been running short obvious by the reboots of snow white and stuff ( The little mermaids voice is stunning though) . They also do the thing where they want you to feel bad for the character. Turning red wasn't bad but I didn't even bother with strange world. Puss in boots though was a amazing story. Unlike Disney, dreamworks show their villains with perfection. Goldie and the crime bears are great as redeemable characters and Jack Horner is the perfect nonredeemable character. He shows no regrets to his actions and I love him for that. Death is the middle ground. He only doing his jobs and helps puss realize how he needs to value his life. I personally liked Strange World because the animation gave me Jules Verne sci-fi vibes that I thought was kind of missing in animation as a whole, even if the story was somewhat bland. But DreamWorks is definitely stepping up their game (especially with The Bad Guys and PiB2) because they've essentially taken the ingredients that made Disney animation so successful for such a long time: make a simple but entertaining movie that has great animation, great storytelling, iconic characters, and excellent use of conveying different life morals/lessons. It also helps that DW has not had to endure cultural controversy that Disney has dealt with over the past few years. Heck, even Illumination has been kicking ass as well. In conclusion, if Disney wants to still be at the top of the animated film realm, it needs to take a cue from its Renaissance era and just start being unapologetic with its content. But for now, DW is king

For a bunch of people that talk about how much the lgbtq are “snowflakes” you sure do get up in arms whenever a gay person shows up on screen.

    • @АрсенАсадов-в6б
      @АрсенАсадов-в6б Рік тому +8

Exactly. The creators of the cartoon had a choice: to add a gay character or not to add. If they had not added, then the cartoon would have been easier for the viewer to perceive and would have received less hate (I speak as a person from a homophobic country. No matter how cool and well-written the character is, if he is gay, they will hate him). If they added a FULLY gay character, it would inspire the LGBT community a lot, but Disney would lose a lot of money from the conservatives. What did they do? They didn't add a gay character. They added a character who acts gay in a couple of scenes BECAUSE. Its orientation does not affect the plot in any way, and, when filmed in homophobic countries, these scenes can simply be cut out. Plus, these teenage lovelines with shyness and averting the eyes are cringe. CRINGE. There could not have been a more pathetic and vile act in this situation.

The models, sets, characters are 3D but the effects have motion lines and/or smear frames instead of regular motion blur. Bad Guys also felt more simply shaded, closer to the aesthetic of 2D animation. Disney however just seems to be trying for as realistic as possible, and it doesn't feel as unique.

Another strong point behind DreamWorks success is their sequels. Most of their sequels are insanely great. DreamWorks is so good at making sequels, that the only bad sequels it has can be counted with half of a hand, these being The Boss Baby 2, Trolls World Tour and Shrek 3.
The first 2 sucks because their first movies weren't great either. But the thing with Shrek 3 is that the reason Shrek 4 exist is because Shrek 3 as an ending was awful, so they made the 3th movie as a proper ending. And it does a great job at that, you can skip the 3rd one and nothing will change.

And after all the Puss in Boots 2 hype, I haven’t seen a peep of the same excitement for Ruby Gillman: Teenage Kraken. Stop pretending that Dreamworks only had a few bad films in the past. They’re still inconsistent with quality as ever. Especially with the newest Trolls film coming out.
I’m also not gonna pretend like I like Strange World but the homophobia isn’t fun either. A lot of the Dreamworks hype videos tend to rag on that specific part of that movie, so maybe don’t do that.

There is a Disney bias at the Oscars, because they don't watch the animated films and just award the Disney movie because they assume it'll be great just because its Disney, when Dreamworks often makes better movies. Not one How to Train your Dragon film won an Oscar even though they were better than the Disney movies that beat them.

You can't really take just this year Disney films as an example to say that DreamWorks is better in general, it's like saying that toy story, coco, wall.e, up, Zootopia, Tangled, and so goes on never happened

This is their recent movies in 2022. All this comes before or at 2019. Recently,Disney just going downhill and make as many movies than their storywriting. Dreamworks doesnt have many movies in 2022 but most of their movies are still better than Disney. That is what quality over quantity means.

      @DaviRed_ Рік тому +4

@@Gacha_Nazrinofficial then we could say the same thing about DreamWorks. They do only two good movies in one year and it erase all the bad movies DreamWorks was making until a year ago? Plus Encanto and Soul happened so it's not even true the thing that it's downhill since 2019.

    • @Blue-Code

@@DaviRed_ true, but after Encanto is where Disney is starting to fall off, because the other movies released after it were starting to get worse.
Disney has failed a lot recently, to the point that they intend to work on and release Frozen 3, Toy Story 5 and Zootopia 2. While I can understand Zootopia 2, Frozen and toy Story getting more sequels shows on how Disney is desperate.
Also some of DreamWorks previous movies are on par if not better than some old Disney movies such as the prince of Egypt or spirit the stallion of the cimarron.

@@Blue-Code i just don't think that you can consider one/two bad movies that Disney made as a total downfall. Plus, i get that usually a fifth sequel isn't really the best, but c'mon you can't judge a movie that didn't even come out yet. Where did "don't judge a book by it's cover" has ended? I mean, at the end, isn't really the important of a movie to just being good?

I used to like disney more than dreamworks, but now since I've watched movies like shrek, kung fu panda, puss in boots, etc, I love dreamworks now. Disney used to make movies that are remarkable for me, but now they make cringy movies, such as turning red, and the worst of all is that disney doesn't care for it's fans anymore like it used to, the company only cares for the money, and that puts a very bad name in Walt Disney which is really bad. That's why dreamworks are 1,000,000 times better than disney. You guys should agree.

i don’t understand how the thumbnail shows disney movies from 2022, but they use dreamworks movies from multiple years so they can “prove their point”. Before Puss In Boots, literally no one was talking about dreamworks until that one movie, and tbh, people give the movie way too much attention that it’s slowly getting boring and annoying. Puss in Boots was a good movie, but when people don’t like the cast or gender of a character, they just hate on the movie. When the “Turning Red” trailer came out, it already got so much hate, the movie wasn’t even that bad, why cant we appreciate good movies with hating or making it annoying.

One studio making great movies doesn't mean the other studios movies are bad. While I agree that Puss in Boots 2 was an absolute masterpiece, I still enjoyed Strange World, Lightyear and Turning Red as well. Also you can't really judge a movie just by one scene. Turning Red was a good movie if you leave out that cringy twerking scene.
These Disney movies of movies can still be enjoyed by all audiences as well. Everyone was a teenager in their life, is or will be, so as an adult, movies about teenagers can remind you of your own teenager time, or prepare you for the time when you have children that become teenagers. And you don't have to belong to a minority to relate to a character of a minority.
Nowadays people just blindly hate against movies because they see other people hating on these movies online (the way you hear others talk about a movie can have a lot of influence on how you perceive it), I wonder how many people have actually seen the movies instead of just judging them by one scene.

To me disney, the only thing that great about their films is just the quality of the animations, not the story or anything else. Like disney have been using the same formula for years. Which is boring and the plots is pretty much Predictable. It's just.. Boring. Yes I know making an original movie is hard but just try something new and make bold moves. At least give it a shot.
Dreamworks to me is a great entertainment company cause the do take the risk on showing fighting battle, wounded characters and even dare to insert blood on their film like puts in boots. Every films they make is just golden.
Pixar is also good lots of their films become my childhood but the newest film they make just... Doesn't seem and sound and look pretty interesting tho. But I still kinda like it...
Illumination is just chef kiss. I like the animation quality and the stories too. And I like that they make a good both protagonis and antagonist. Such as minions and despicable Me (1-3) I love that they make the villain don't even have any regrets on what they doing and if they does it must be just a joke or like pretend to regret. So is DreamWorks to.
It's just sad that disney just stuck on safe zone or just stay at what they think is the best but actually the worst. Disney trying to make a relate able movies but just ended up only relate able to minor groups... Disney just like new person that trying to blend in with the rest and failed miserably. I just wish Disney could change. To me the LGBT thing in the movie is not really a problem but.. Hello? It's supposed to be" all age or type of people could love " company. Not some "super specific groups only will love this and watch this"
