  • LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers beat the Indiana Pacers 112-111 last night. LeBron scored 26 points and is now 63 points away from passing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar on the all-time scoring list. After the game, LeBron talked about the magnitude of the record is, saying quote: 'I think it's one of the greatest records in sports in general. I think it's up there with the home run record in baseball. It's just one of those records you just don't ever see or think it'll be broken. You end up seeing guys like Sammy and Mark McGwire start climbing and you think oh this can really happen..' Skip Bayless and Shannon Sharpe react to LeBron's comments.

How come no one ever blames the players when team loses. Would Phili lost the game if Hurts doesn't fumble resulting in a KC touchdown does Phili lose. Probably not. Of course, if the Chiefs had lost by 3, do you think anyone would have blamed the FG that hit the upright? No, it would have been the scoop and score that got called back.

LeBron james carried an absolutely horrific 2007 Cleveland Cavaliers team to the nba finals
In the modern NBA era (post 1960) only eight NBA top 75 players have won a championship without another top 75 player as a teammate
      Rick Barry (1975)
      Hakeem Olajuwon (1994)
      Tim Duncan (2005)
      Kobe Bryant (2009) (2010)

      LeBron james (2016)
      Kawhi Leonard (2019)
      Giannis Antetokounmpo (2021)
As you can see, LeBron James is on the list and Micheal Jordan isnt
Lebron james has won 17 playoff series, without an nba top 75 teammate. Michael Jordan won ZERO
In the year before Micheal Jordan and LeBron James joined their team and the year after they left their team, their records were

      2018-19 cavaliers 19-63
      2017-18 lakers. 35-47
2018-19 lakers were 20-14 when LeBron James got injured on Christmas day.
As you can see When LeBron James joins a team, the team improves more than Michael Jordan and when LeBron James leaves a team, the team always goes into the tank.
Micheal Jordan, excluding the 94-97 seasons, when the NBA moved the three point line to 22 feet, was a career 28% three point shooter. LeBron James is a career 34% three point shooter
Micheal Jordan was a great defensive player, in an Era where you could handcheck. Playing defense is much easier when you can handcheck. For nearly 6'9 250 LeBron James' entire career he wasn't afforded the opportunity to handcheck.
THE EVIDENCE IS CLEAR..LEBRON JAMES IS THE GOAT!!!!!

If the NBA continues at this pace or gets even worse. LeBrons record will stand a lot shorter than Kareem had it. It certainly has helped lebron to play his older years in this pace and space era statistically. Inflated stats did get Kareem there for the first part of his career in the weak 70s too though

Interesting points, especially about Kareem. He had a lot of talent out of the league over in the ABA, plus an expansion watered down league.
Still, I tend to disagree, because of the money these days (and human limits). Any players who could potentially do it are making over $40 million a year now (more in the future), and can have lucrative post-career money also. Will they have the will to grind out all the years necessary (even if they may be slightly less, it will still be 15 or more), and do the multiple rehab comebacks from injuries, if they are so rich? Remember, when the Big 3 Heat came together, the max salary was $18m a year.
Also, in all the NBA history, only two players averaged at least 25 ppg more than 12 seasons (and only 3 had 12-- Kobe, Jordan, and Karl Malone). KD is working on his 14th, and LeBron is getting his 19th in a row now.

@fhds fhds a player maintaining production levels enough to even get those minutes late in their careers makes achieving the record unrealistic.
Even with modern advances in medicine and treatment, it doesn’t seem likely another player will come close to this record barring incredible health, offensive skill set and luck.
Malone was able to play all those minutes and “seemed” likely to break it but what happened? Break down and attrition. It’s not a simple matter of playing the most minutes; a player averaging over 20ppg and not being seen as a liability late in their career (ie: past 15 years) is extremely rare.
