- In this Outer Worlds lore video, we take a closer look at Anton Crane and determine who he is at his core. Is he really such a bad person, or is he just so obsessed with his work for Auntie Cleos that everything else around him doesn't matter?

"He is like an onion, he's multiple layers"
Psychopath run : "Not if I cut those layers in half"
You can see him elsewhere, if you get the outlaws to leave peacefully, convince him he's been sold a bad bill of goods, then you can find him on Groundbreaker in the Lost Hope bar. He's actually a even happy I dare say, made a deal with an outlaw who wanted a different life, and sold his research for some bits to get off Roseway. He has no interest in working with Phineas though, not wanting anything to do with research ever again, but is thankful you opened his eyes, even refers to you as "my friend."
Love this analysis. Anton Crane is an underrated character.
He's a lot like Phineas in that way of being passionate to the point of obsession leading to several deaths.
Both of their consciences ate away at them. Anton was right to question the purpose of his research. That alone tells me he is a good man.
To say nothing about the outcomes of his quest.
After learning how edgewater feeds wood chips to their people while calling it saltuna and getting people sick with the “plague” and instead of giving medicine the would force their workers to continue working to death than having the closet person in someone’s life pay for their funeral if they killed themselves… even if the closet person is just their foreman… yeah the 10 minute birthday break was actually one of the nicest things I’ve seen in this game so far.
Hell i never gotten told happy birthday or a 10 minute break from any of my jobs.
Jameson was already dead when I finally went to save him.
You should've saved him first rather than the research.
So I know this comment is fairly late however there is a reason for the research in roseway, you later find out that there’s a crisis regarding food in the colony, I’m not going into specifics for spoiler warnings and all that, but this questline goes deeper than just Anton and the team
Excellent analysis, well done. I'm playing the game for the first time, and I was in a dilemma with what I should do with him. I missed those terminals in his room and the covert lab, but seeing them in this video, and your explanation, it's pretty safe to say that he is, in fact, a good person, just overrun by his will to succeed with his research.
Good analysis!
He later can be found in byzantium on a bench. ....saying he got in the life time retirement project. You can however save him from that doom if you did the mission earlier so you can tell him what will really happen. He still seems lost though, since now hes unsure what to do. I like his charater, and feel bad that he spent his life striving for what he thought was perfection. I wish I could take him on as crew or have him help in some way. So theres some glimmer for him in the end credits....but I'll never get to tell the game designers that. 😅

@@brothers_of_nod nice ty
I found Jameson dead
I go to the lab hes at first, dont lift the lock down until everything else is dead. I found that out the hard way. It's the first thing I do even before speaking to crane.
Funny I actually killed him in my play through and failed the mission ha!
This is a really good video, thanks for making it!
Re: the birthday message to Porter, I'd actually frame that as further proof that Anton *does* care about his workers. If you speak to Porter after talking to the bandits you can choose to tell him that Anton doesn't care about him (and therefore he should abandon the facility), whereupon Porter states that he never thought Anton was a bad person...just someone who doesn't know how to talk to people. This combined with Anton being genuinely hurt that Jameson doesn't like him has me thinking that he's someone who does want friends/a social life but has spent so long on his work that he doesn't have any social skills at all. So whilst he does the "friend" thing of contacting Porter on his birthday to show he's appreciative, he has no idea what to say past the stock wording of enjoying the benefits of working for Auntie Cleo.
