Sure do! Excellent DM’ing and great players. Funny how Töm adopts a mannerism and OD is basically just speaking normally with an expanded vocabulary and achieve the same result. But you would never believe they are de facto new to DND. Cool setting too.
Shout out to Justin. It must be crazy To be a brand new player, and on a live stream. Especially with Matt OD and Tom chewing on the scenery like someone dipped it in syrup.
Matt Colville has a pretty strong personality. Though it shines as he plays in this game as a PC, it does not over shine Phil. He plays like the other players, and seems to be a very gracious host for another DM. It's nice to see.
I came into this video, having watched live, to inform everyone that this is a great little secondary campaign, and to like the video. Love how much everyone is getting into character!
I think my favorite moment might be O'D's lore-dump about the dragon (41:30). Delivered totally in character with all the color of a real bard. And Morag's rapt attention as she seeks more knowledge. It was a great moment.
For new DM's this was a classic example of how to start a campaign. I loved the start of The Chain, but it was an example for advanced DMs. This video adds to Matt's advice to starting DMs and running the game videos.
Having seen Dusk, in 2021, I am very confused about Matt O'Driscoll's memory. That man has an uncanny ability to recap previous sessions from memory, but forgets the name Abraxas half an hour after his character told the rest of the table about it.
Gotta say that I was a little disappointed at first when I watched the VOD on Twitch and remembered we wouldn't have the Chain for two weeks. That quickly changed, though. Loved Phil's setting and the Dwarves' shenanigans. Matt's reactions to things that happened when they played in Phil's campaign first, and his later explanation of everything, was a lot of fun too. So yes, looking forward to part 2 and possibly more should Matt need another break from DMing!
Can this plz be the backup game all the time? So much fun. It felt like I was watching a home game. Where as the chain is fun to watch in a different way
Great show, everyone preformed magnificently! Loved seeing Phil behind the DM screen and Matt getting to stretch his PC legs all the while struggling to turn off his DM brain. Tom, OD, Lars, and Justin also killed it. Keep up the good work gang!
I'm only halfway through but I have to say that I'm really enjoying this. It's fun to see the difference in GMing between Phil and Matt. I also love the descriptions of Phil's world.
"It's a traditional morning dwarf drink." "What about an afternoon dwarf?" And this one was my favorite: "Just give it to Daggers, he'll drink anything...... The daft bugger" - by the one brewing the drinks -
This is great! Phill did a amazing job. I read on reddit that the chain will be going to seasons. I'd love to see more things like this in the down time. The other player or guest dm running one shouts or single adventures.
I think the great thing about watching these streams is just seeing how much fun everyone is having together. I love this! Take care of yourselves, MCDM crew!!!
Love the pacing on this. Phil can certainly weave a spooky atmosphere. Also Tóm essentially masking the corpse with Druid craft like teenager showering with lynx or axe body spray made me laugh
It's been a long time since I've heard the term "Toad's Milk". Don't think I've ever heard it praised so. "Toad's Milk" or "Milk of Toads" is an old term for sperm. I'm pretty sure my brain was seeing something totally different when they were talking about Tom adding his "Toad's Milk" to the brew. Strong stuff, ye say? ;)
The line "leave him be, lad. He's drunk on the toad milk and hurtin' inside" took a couple seconds for me to catch up with but once it registered in my brain I was laughing for the next 10 minutes. It's so funny to me! Great time, glad you guys decided to replace the regular stream with this while you took a break from The Chain!
Everyone looks so relaxed and ready to play a game! I'm really impressed with Justin stepping into a stream for the first time. Everyone is very enjoyable when they play their characters. So many things that I picked up, subtle and overt! This is a surprising addition to the MCDM franchise build, but it is welcome with streaming tears of laughter and happiness. Very inspirational worldbuilding and how he is laying it out to players and the audience. Can't wait to see the second half and the possibility for more adventures to come from these characters! 10/10 have recommended.
I caught Matt encouraging his fellow players to run on up ahead... in the dangerous forest where the caravan is regularly stumbling across corpses along the trail. (I think his GM hat and his Player hat might be very similar.) LOL
Phil did a great job! Hope we get to see more of his world if/when the chain has to go on hiatus :) I will be stealing the "jump scare" moment. Inspired!
I appreciated how quiet Matt was while telling Matt about bard stuff. Although the positioning on the screen compared to how they actually sit was very confusing
I'm sure from all the likes and responses that you've accumulated that you know by now that most DID enjoy watching Phil's DMing (I always enjoy seeing what new quirky diverse PCs people come up with, and it's enjoyable to see different homebrew settings and DM styles). :) If you go ahead with the 6:2 schedule (weeks DMing vs weeks resting), will we be seeing other one-shots or mini campaigns more regularly during the "resting periode", or are Phil and the other's DMing gonna be a more rare treat?
Phil constantly reveals that, however awesome you thought he was before, he’s much more awesome after all, and there’s even more to come!
TRUTH!
And that he’s never eager to show it, but always ready to share it.
first time I saw him on ep 1 of the chain I thought "that guy does not want to be here" -teach me for judging books
@@kidsfringer k
We hope you enjoy this extra special D&D show. Lot's of laughs for everyone!
Yeah, you guys seemed to really get into it! Fun to watch!
This is a blast! Great way to change it up and still put out content!
My God O.D. is so good...
Btw you all are a banda de sgorloni :D
And I must agree with Matt, Phil is a great DM ❤
What a fun adventure! You were clearly having a lot of fun as Morag (and I was having a blast watching you have fun).
Sure do! Excellent DM’ing and great players. Funny how Töm adopts a mannerism and OD is basically just speaking normally with an expanded vocabulary and achieve the same result. But you would never believe they are de facto new to DND. Cool setting too.
Shout out to Justin.
It must be crazy
To be a brand new player, and on a live stream.
Especially with Matt OD and Tom chewing on the scenery like someone dipped it in syrup.
You can tell Justin is having a great time. Maybe again in the future?
Didn't they try to get Justin to play Buts in the Chain of Acheron campaign? Maybe he will now.
Phil kicks ass at running game, very creative and the world INSTANTLY felt real. Matt is a fun player too. Please do more of these
Matt Colville has a pretty strong personality. Though it shines as he plays in this game as a PC, it does not over shine Phil. He plays like the other players, and seems to be a very gracious host for another DM. It's nice to see.
This bunch is having such a great time, I saw Lars smile at least twice!
I came into this video, having watched live, to inform everyone that this is a great little secondary campaign, and to like the video. Love how much everyone is getting into character!
If Matt keeps with his schedule of 6 weeks of The Chain and 2 weeks off they could have Phil turn this from a two shot to a side series
I think my favorite moment might be O'D's lore-dump about the dragon (41:30). Delivered totally in character with all the color of a real bard. And Morag's rapt attention as she seeks more knowledge. It was a great moment.
Yes, I was super drawn in during this moment 💜 the verisimilitude was strong
So exciting to finally see Phil in the DM seat!
I'm totally going to steal the jump scare initiative roll.
That was brilliant.
oh when was that i might have missed it...
@@jnever9768 Right around 50 minutes in, start at 49 you'll see it soon, was because of the bagpipes.
Matt's witch character and his OD imp make me laugh every single time. They're fantastic.
I'll admit I'm stealing this character and will do it the future too. #noshame
Phil DM was a lot of fun. Looking forward to Tom DM sometime, he seems the type to be great at it too.
Tom not Töm?
No, Töm no Tom. DMSchmu.
He seems like he's absolutely hooked. The Chain is his first campaign I'm pretty sure.
That is true, it has been said many times.
"Leave him be lad, he's drunk on the toad milk and he's hurting inside."
Watching this is when it really hit me that MCDM is a brand producing shows. Really hope that this can continue!
I didn’t know it was possible for me to love OD’s accent more
For new DM's this was a classic example of how to start a campaign. I loved the start of The Chain, but it was an example for advanced DMs. This video adds to Matt's advice to starting DMs and running the game videos.
I just wanted to quickly confirm that the art for the celestial court in strongholds & followers is extremely amazing.
Phil is the person who you know is cool, but keeps uping his cool everytime
Having seen Dusk, in 2021, I am very confused about Matt O'Driscoll's memory. That man has an uncanny ability to recap previous sessions from memory, but forgets the name Abraxas half an hour after his character told the rest of the table about it.

"Nations need BAKERS" had me in stitches
Can this plz be the backup game all the time? So much fun. It felt like I was watching a home game. Where as the chain is fun to watch in a different way
Thank you for the new distinguishable thumbnail. I hope the previous episodes also get that treatment, for consistency sake.
Great show, everyone preformed magnificently! Loved seeing Phil behind the DM screen and Matt getting to stretch his PC legs all the while struggling to turn off his DM brain. Tom, OD, Lars, and Justin also killed it. Keep up the good work gang!
The birds are speaking in .... crode
I am less than 30 minutes into this, and I already enjoy Colville's character and the way he plays to her "quirks." Really brings the character alive.
I was smiling every moment that Matt roleplays as Morag. Thoroughly enjoyed.
Just re-watching this to straight up steal this quest and I am reminded just how amazing Phil's descriptions are. Superbly done.
Tom's constant allusions to Quint make me want to see Jaws for the umpteenth time
No one:
Absolutely no one:
Yeastnor: Ya know, I bet I could make a brew outta that there.
I'm only halfway through but I have to say that I'm really enjoying this. It's fun to see the difference in GMing between Phil and Matt. I also love the descriptions of Phil's world.
If this is what the gaps in The Chain are filled with i will be very happy. I was hoping to see Phil DM!
I see a lot of love for Phil DMing, which is deserved, but Tom doing a straight up Quint from Jaws is really gonna sell me on this campaign.
Just listing my favorite moments for future reference:
21:46: Morag inspects the Bakers
38:14: On the way back to the beer wagon
Matt's character is straight up Aughra from The Dark Crystal.
Yes!
!!!
"Witch bolt was that?" "It's MY bolt." Hahaha
"It's a traditional morning dwarf drink."
"What about an afternoon dwarf?"
And this one was my favorite:
"Just give it to Daggers, he'll drink anything...... The daft bugger"
- by the one brewing the drinks -
This was very very fun to watch, looking forward to part 2.
This is great! Phill did a amazing job. I read on reddit that the chain will be going to seasons. I'd love to see more things like this in the down time. The other player or guest dm running one shouts or single adventures.
Morag casting sleep on the Dwarfs was hilarious!
Love that you guys are doing a second campaign to help Matt take his time to plan! Breaks are the best tool in the fight against burn out!
May we find Glory and Honor in our ancestral home of Vallenguard!!!
So is Phil going to do the "campaign" diary for this?
Can slim do it and DM next week as well?
That's what I was wondering. God, I hope so.
Slim's campaign diary would be 5 sec long.
Slim: hmmm, this is the diary. Just killing and more killing. Bye
LoL
@@hankmaccuy That's not true! Slims campaign diary would consist of Boots singing his praises.^^
@@harry_ord Def.. Noice POINT MATE!
OD trying to put a Yorkshire accent on is brilliant
What is this "only one Tom" nonsense all about. The people demand more than one Tom!
I think the great thing about watching these streams is just seeing how much fun everyone is having together. I love this! Take care of yourselves, MCDM crew!!!
Love watching MC as a player
Matt's "BAKERS" RP was pretty damn funny
So glad we got a D&D session on the off week. Nice work Phil.
Hilarious party!
Matt..... so, you’re that kind of player.
He couldn't have been any other kind of player.
Recipe for "Toad Milk": 2parts Baileys, 1part brandy, 1part creme de menthe.
"man it is weird when people eat warg dongs to flex"
-Yonyon, probably.
"Yonyon" -Yonyon
Matt is playing that old lady-thing from Dark Crystal. This is from 24 minutes in, if they comment further on.
I'm more amused by the fact that Tom seems to be playing Quint from Jaws.
Aggra, I think her name was.
Aughra, I immediately thought of that too
As also played by Frank Oz.
Love the pacing on this. Phil can certainly weave a spooky atmosphere.
Also Tóm essentially masking the corpse with Druid craft like teenager showering with lynx or axe body spray made me laugh
Morag has been possesed by the souls of yoda and OD
It's been a long time since I've heard the term "Toad's Milk". Don't think I've ever heard it praised so.

Taking damage does not end invisibility per se, but Morag should have rolled a concentration check when she took the 3 points of damage.
The line "leave him be, lad. He's drunk on the toad milk and hurtin' inside" took a couple seconds for me to catch up with but once it registered in my brain I was laughing for the next 10 minutes. Major underrated line from this

We need more Dwarf wizards :) i felt so alone for so long
I liked Phil as a DM he was cool. Liked the map printout. Matt was seemed like he was having fun playing a character.
Phil did a great job! Hope we get to see more of his world if/when the chain has to go on hiatus :)
I will be stealing the "jump scare" moment. Inspired!
Awesome to see Phil DM (and Matt as a player)!
Only half way through so far, but this is just lovely. Phil is a fun DM and I like seeing Matt be so loose as a player.
"He's drunk on th' toad-milk and hurting inside."
Life-goals.
Loved this live, second viewing I took notes and deff gonna steal those flashbang things! That was an awesome item for bandits.
Isn't that a hint of an evil DM, when he comes to the game promoting a cemetery on his shirt!
Super cool to see Phil DM, Colville get to relax and be a player, and just overall great show. Looking forward to next week!
OD being a right yorkshire lad killed it this session. I'm creasing up xD
I appreciated how quiet Matt was while telling Matt about bard stuff. Although the positioning on the screen compared to how they actually sit was very confusing
Man, I really love this. I don't have time to keep up with the main campaign, but I can really get behind this one-off kind of thing.
Phil is a great storyteller! Great cast too.
such a joy to watch! the twist of having a giant, more powerful enemy show up and dwarf the previous enemy is timeless!
D&D jokes that will never get old:
"Which bolt?"
"Is it a door, or is it ajar?"
O’D needs to play a dwarf every damn time I LOVE yeastnor and dag
I'm loving the new running joke. I yell 👉. Loudly.
Based on this exciting night of adventure, Dungeons & Dragons is really a fun game I see... LOL Thanks guys! Enjoyed it !
Friggen OD cracks me up the whole episode lol
That Robert Shaw impression is seriously cracking me up.
this was great. I request a campaign diary from Phil!
This was great, nice to see the difference in DM style, also love Phils world.
Just sitting there with my PHB, eating whiskey-soaked watermelons, enjoying the all-dwarf party shenanigans. Man, I hope Matt takes breaks more often!
This is really awesome guys. Thanks for the content.
HEY for JUSTIN!!
Matt "Now I am defiantly Wisable",
Tom "and Which bolt was that?"
Wow, you guys are all so good at drawing
This is so awesome! I already love the dark mystique of Phil's setting :) Thanks for DMing Phil!!!!!
O.D. was a joy to watch
Good future product for MCDM to produce - markers for enemies. I’d buy. ;)
All dwarf party! Yay!
Dwarf Fortress intensifies.
I like this! what a great way to have a break from the Chain
This was so much fun! I definitely can't wait for the next one! All of the characters were fantastic; you guys had me laughing to literal tears :D
Laughs all the way. Really enjoyed Phil as the DM, looking forward to next week!
So much fun... Can't wait until part 2 and hoping Phil DMs more often live
4 minutes and 52 seconds into this video, and I can already tell that Helldust is my favorite 😍
I love the Chain, but this is so fun! I love these guys! Phil is great! Thanks for doing this!
I'm sure from all the likes and responses that you've accumulated that you know by now that most DID enjoy watching Phil's DMing (I always enjoy seeing what new quirky diverse PCs people come up with, and it's enjoyable to see different homebrew settings and DM styles). :)

I love the Chain, but this is amazing.
This was really good guys. I was surprised and delighted. Now I want more of this game AND the chain! MOAR D&D!
"I've heard about your little instrument." at 2:18:30. The most obvious joke in the world, but for some reason I about died laughing!
Wow, these dudes have pretty amazing stats on their characters.
