Well yeah
For example Anders Breivik. Person who shot bunch of people in island will never walk free.
Same thing with people who are deemed unfit to stand trial due to reasons of insanity. These people based on medical and psychiatric evaluation spend rest of their lives in closed mental hospitals. While yes mental hospitals aren’t prisons essentially but patients there have limited freedom if not at all.
And that's a good thing. In the USA a guy who shoplifted shares cell with a guy who murdered 10 people
No thats a lie. Shoplifters are not sent to state penitentiaries like murderers. Shoplifters are sent to local jails.@refuser_10
Actually no, Halden prison actually houses murderers and other violent criminals as well, although they are kept separate from the general population until they can prove that they are able to behave themselves essentially. Also in Norway, they don’t have life sentences, the maximum penalty is 30 years in jail, although this can be extended by simply taking on another 30 years.
If you're wondering why their prison is like this, like shouldn't their prison punish them since they did a crime? Why should they live such luxurious life if they're a criminal? Well, that is because, these type of prisons mostly rely more on rehabilating the prisoners than punishing them. They rely on rehabilitation than punishment, which is kinda a good idea.
"But they're just wasting money on those criminals!"
Fun fact, a research had found that for every dollar that prisons invest in education programs, they save 4 to 5 dollars by preventing costs of housing reoffending criminals.
It's a short-term loss for a long-term gain if managed correctly.

If anyone is wondering why: countries with prisons like america have high reoffending rates due to lack of rehabilitation, whereas countries with prisons like those mentioned above have low reoffending rates due to lots of rehabilitation

Stop lying to yourself, it'd not good to reward people like murderers just because you want to rehabilitate them, American prisons are a punishment not a reward and that's good
America doesn't address mental issues. They call mentally handicapped people: "different abilitied", and むしろ、性別は 2 つしかないことに言及し、それらは無限の性別であると断言します。
@@minecraftkiller4672Yeah, American society just focuses way too much on punishment.
American prison owners make money per inmate so it’s in their best interest to keep them there at low costs. Low re-offending rates and proper facilities = less money
Committing a crime in Norway, and then going to prison, also has another thing to it! Since there are so little crimes in Norway, when crimes does happen, everyone know because it’s on news, radios, and newspaper. So as well as being prisoned, you’ll also be famous! And the worse crime you commit, the longer you’ll stay in your cell, and you’ll be more famous. What a win! (Coming from a Norwegian)
America was supposed to have prison reform for the last 40 years of my life and I haven't seen One Promise fulfilled by a politician

Because private prisons $$$$$$$$ rather have the country in prison so their investors get rich
@@SaHlGoodless than 10% of US prisons are private, the issue is with the entire idea behind american policing and law enforcement. america believes if you slip up and break any kind of law you should be made to suffer as much as possible. american laws basically make it so if you’re poor and you steal stuff to make money so you can not starve to death you’ll get locked up in a cage for years with violent people and you’ll most likely be FORCED to fight, which adds even more time to your sentence. it’s basically DESIGNED to get people who break the law once to continue to go in and out of prisons and jails and continuously commit crimes. american society as a whole is fucked. we treat nonviolent criminals like animals but then when those nonviolent people become violent out of necessity in prison, people act shocked
Their have been smaller reforms but most of them are either isolated or only on paper
@@acid6urnsAdd to that the stigma of being an ex-con. Even if it was for something like you said, like stealing to make sure your family doesn't starve, most jobs will turn people down, this basically ensuring that their only option is yo commit more crimes.

You seem so sure of yourself, but are still so wrong. Short term inmates don't go into that nice prison in Norway, and the reason is rather simple.
