What is not coming into focus for me is “What can I do in Web3 that I can’t do now?” and “How will blockchain technology effectuate vastly different functionality?” and “How will decentralization - which I think means doing business with a bunch of anonymous/hard to pin down entities - be better than doing business with known entities I have recourse with?”
In other words, the buzzwords never seem to come to ground in a meaningful way. Nothing passes the “So What?” test.
What I keep hearing is “You’ll be able to do the same stuff you can do now, only without getting a big bank involved.”
That doesn’t strike me as a huge win. Right now I can deposit a check to my bank account with no transaction fee. If I want to move $20 from one crypto wallet to another, there are $120 in ETH transaction fees - charged even if the transaction fails.
And instead of today’s customer-oriented “big banks” and “big tech,” will we just have a different FaceBook Big Brother running all the transactions?

So true even I had the same doubt ... It seems still an unexplored territory which might have some hidden disadvantages

I agree with you, except with calling big banks or big tech "customer oriented", they are anything but...

Valid questions when seen from a financial transaction use case, however look at it from a social media perspective, as of now FB or twitter are able to control and ban accounts (due to centralized control), imagine your post or tweet being saved across 1000s of computers; in such case it will be impossible to control your content (due to decentralization), it will truly be out there for ever and without any governance (not sure if this is good or bad socially). You will then also be able to monetize the content based on views and shares (where crypto might play a role). This may not look like a big deal now, but nether did the ability to add profiles and pics when social media came out. Hope this makes sense

@@charusarawgi4466 I had to watch the video again! Web 3 seems like a vision of open-source-ification of web apps, in the sense of cutting Big Bad Vendors (gatekeepers) out of the picture. Kinda. But wherever I look, when you let a market become a free-for-all, the cockroaches come out from under the rocks. “No regulation” may seem like the ideal to some, but it just strikes me that Zuckerberg and Musk will be knocked off their thrones, and new Messiahs (with their clever-sounding companies and VC cred) stepping into their Birkenstocks - with all the same high-falutin’ talk masquerading their personal plan to rule all of Mankind.
      But that’s just my take.

And that is true, and well put! with the evolution of social media and lots of open ungoverned, unregulated platforms we are headed there anyway...i guess we can just keep an open mind and let tech take its course, I am sure even with web3 there will be positives as well

So web3 control by government? So much better web1 or web2 not control by government..
