I've flown across the border a couple of times, clearing customs in Bellingham, Washington (KBLI). eAPIS, flight plan, taxi to the Customs ramp, stay in the plane until the Customs dudes come out to the plane. No problem.

I have flown into Canada as a private pilot, and also taken my own boat to Victoria and the Canadian Islands. When you arrive in Canada, they give you the feeling that you are welcome into their Country. They still do their job, but you feel welcome. If you are going on a boat, you only talk to them through a phone on the Customs dock and they are very respectful.
When you come back to the US, our US Customs treat you like you are a criminal, like you are smuggling something, they try to intimidate you with their questions. Very unwelcoming!. I happened to come back from Victoria at a time that a Canadian boat was approached by Customs at the dock and saw their interaction. I had to apologize to those folks after the Custom clearance for the way they were treated. Sad...

I was wondering what the real experience was like given that politeness is not what us law enforcement is known for.
The video sounded more like a marketing artifact than a genuine experience.
      Thanks for the testimonial.

A couple of years ago, I delivered an aircraft from Canada to the States. My flying career hasn't warranted cross-border flying and it was the first border crossing I had made in more than 30 years. I had never heard of EAPIS, but thanks to the Internet, and a little research, was able to file everything satisfactorily and the crossings (there and back) were completely uneventful. Customs agents on both sides were very courteous and much less 'intimidating' than my experiences with vehicle border crossings.
Over the years, I've taken many airline flights back and forth and have also been fortunate enough to have no issues with security and Customs (only one 'random' bag check). My poor wife, however, gets the full Monty on nearly every flight she takes, which I find quite amusing. She does not.

This video is just over 5 years old. Would like to see a newer edition, since things change quickly sometimes. Example, I used to Ski every weekend and sometimes go into Canada, (Quebec) and Ski, back then it was really no big deal but there were subtle changes, especially coming back into the U.S.. I am a Pilot and would like to fly to Canada and Bahama's, which I have researched. Do you need any kind of stamps for your plane as in the Bahama's? Also, this video looks way too planned out, those border guards were way too co-operative, Hard to believe anyone in a position of authority would be so helpful and polite.

15 to 20 years go coming back in from Baja, at Calexico we had U.S Customs plant some "dope" in one of our group "Flying Sams" airplane with out first telling the pilot. They said it was a training thing for their dog, but quite a shock for the pilot when coming back to his plane after being inside doing his paperwork.

Dope is legal in USA.. It's delivered and Trafficed by the Police & CIA. No Mom & Pop operation could traffic like the police & Government does it. Killing our kids & Families. Its easy to control Doppers. To see this.. You need to be smarter than a 5th grader or just wake up. Drug enforcement is to jail people and to protect big Pharmaceuticals Money.

911 changed all that. For 30+ year we would go to Canada being only 1.2 hours by car. And never had a problem nor have we had to wait more than 2-3 at a crossing. Now we need passports just to spend the day in Canada. *They flew over my house that day and I was listening to radio chatter.

Not the experience I have had on several crossings back and forth from Canada. Going into Canada has been mostly great. Only one time were the agents less than professional. And even that was not too bad. Coming back ia a totally different story. Out of all the crossings coming back into the states I have only had one who was what I would consider professional. During Osh Kosh week, at a time when you would think most agents would be a little frazzeled (sp), I had one, (sorry I can't remember his name because he deserves a shout out) who went over and above to make sure everyone was treated with respect and he hustled so no one was significantly delayed. On the other hand, at almost every other crossing, I encounter bad attitudes, long delays from laziness or unnecessary checks, and just plain unprofessionalism. I was a police officer for many years and if I would have treated people the way I have been treated I would have been disciplined or fired. It is atrocious. Our taxpayers money at work.

The customs and border guy says he is "looking for that 1% that has harmful intent". What? One percent of general aviation pilots have "harmful intent"?
If reality could be heeded just for a minute, how many times is there any record or news of a GA aircraft being discovered as having had "hurmful intent" at a border crossing.
EAPIS and the additional formalities discourage a lot of travel, on account of an imaginary threat.
