I just want to say I am new to woodworking and I love spiral scroll saw blades. I was having such a hard time with flat and then tried spiral. They work great! Thanks for the tips!
Thanks for another great video! I have a good set of spiral blades that I've never used because of all the bad things said about them. Thanks to you, I'll HAVE to try them out.

I was shown how to cover the wood in painters tape, then attach the pattern in the usual way. Then cover the whole thing with clear packing tape. The clear tape on top greatly reduces pattern lift and also helps cool the blade. When finished the pattern and painters tape is so easy to remove. Also, the bellows aren't just for blowing the dust away, it also helps in keeping your blade cool when pointed directly at the blade.
I am also a spiral blade user, I find them much easier to control the work. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks a bunch, Mike. Spiral blades are giving me a challenge but I haven't given up. This should help.
I usually start in the middle of the figure and work outside, if I saw something wrong, I can usually correct this and it is less easy to break something off the figure.
Great video. I started using the scroll saw in December. I started with spiral blades but have experimented several times with flat blades. I find the spiral blades to be far superior for a beginner to use. The tip one widening the holes in the back is great and one I had not heard yet. I'm going to have to try that.

Good video. The live studio audience reaction at the end was great. It's surprising how many people you can get in to your workshop isn't it.
I have probably made close to 1000 puzzles all using a flat blade. Just ordered this evening some 2/0 spiral blades to see how well they can do the job. Part of the fun for me is the artistic spinning and skill set required to scroll saw. But if I can get the same result and be allowed to use bigger wood due to no swing then spiral might just be for me. Great video!

I sometimes wonder why such a small drill bit is used to make an entry point for the blade. I use the largest drill bit I can get away with, staying within the lines of course. Makes pushing the blade up through the workpiece so much easier.
So do you have a video explaining where it is appropriate to use a spiral vs a flat, what the advantages/disadvantages are, and that sort of thing for the complete newbie?
Great tips, just wish the made pin-end spiral blades so I could use them with my scroll saw!

I started with a flat blade for my first 1/2-dozen projects and after trying spirals (Flying Dutchman) I haven't used a flat blade since. Probably never will.

Hi Mr Mustache Mike, Loving your tutorials. I have ordered the Dremel MS20 moto saw scrolling tool. I know it's not a super dedicated tool but if I get good at it I can always upgrade. The one thing I can't seem to find is spiral blades for this model. The spiral blade looks like a user friendly piece of kit that could make life easier for the novice, maybe ??? What are your thoughts on this ???
What speed did you have a the saw on? I have 788 too and going to try to use the spiral blades I've been buying but never used.

Awesome video but i just got one problem. I just started scrolling and i notice the blade in my scroll saw has 2 little prongs on both ends. this makes it nearly impossible to get it through many drill holes in small spots so i was wondering if my saw will work with any blades without the 2 sided prongs? thank you
I don't recommend spiral blades on MDF unless you like a fluffy cut.

Great job Mike. I'm going to give spiral blades another chance. Any reason you prefer load the blade from the bottom?
+Brian Igielski - Loading from the bottom is easier because you only have to release the top blade clamp, which is easier to get at then the one beneath the table. And it also allows for widening the holes on the bottom side of the work piece, as shown in the video.

Help!!!.. I recently purchased a scroll saw and am primarily working with copper sheets. I'm trying to find the best size scroll saw and no one can seem to help me. I am currently using Bosch 46 TPI and it's too small I think? Do you work with Metals as well?
Love the video but NOT a fan of the spiral blade. Seems to me (And I have been scrolling for years now) the spiral blade was made for those who do not have the knowledge and or discipline to CHANGE out to a smaller blade for a more detail cut. Skill is needed to use the right blade for the right cut and even with the project you did in this video a one blade for the entire piece depending on the wood... sometimes different blades are needed to get the best results. Just say'n... no offence.
