I think this is a great song. It has sort of a rainy day sound and feel, which is I think what she was going for. It's melancholy and upbeat at the same time.
"Abnormally Attracted To Sin" is probably one of her most underrated albums. It has so many fantastic songs, Give, Flavor, Maybe California, Curtain Call, That Guy, Ophelia, Lady In Blue. It's a great mix of Scarlet's Walk and To Venus And Back.
Bring your own sun, just enough for everyone. Can anyone else write a timeless lyric like Tori? I think not. Stop getting so involved in the video and LISTEN TO THE MUSIC!!!!!
Absolute rubbish, southern England isn't so bad. I'm Bermudian, so similar climate to Florida and actually the rainfall is heavier in New York per year than London.
Absolute rubbish indeed. I wasn't talking about the rain. I was talking about the sun, which is what the lyrics of the song are about. Tori Amos has homes in England and Florida. She's originally from Maryland. Her lyrics seem to relate to her life experience. There is no comparison between the amount of sunlight you get in the Caribbean or Florida compared to Southern England or Cornwall where Tori I assume still has a home. There is a reason why Florida is known as the Sunshine State. We don't have endless days of dark over-cast skies. Mentioning the rainfall in New York is completely random, but Florida also receives less rainfall. 6 months of a dry season. 6 months of a rainy season.
I think it's sun as a metaphor for positivism, drive, energy, aspirations. England has a can't do/shouldn't try attitude that exudes a kind hopelessness and bleakness.
As a Dutchwoman who used to live in Florida and loved it there and moved to Britain in 2004 from Amsterdam, I can relate to the chorus of this song... as most Brits are sad and miserable (many dirt-poor, abused by their own government), trapped in steel corsets and gold-painted concrete, and crave sunshine. It is a metaphor @londonismycity Even though it is true that the English south coast - where I am, fortunately - has a lot more sun than Amsterdam and I really do kinda like that. "You've been down before." ""Don't you forget. You bring your own sun." Your soul. So I second @Mr Mister. "takes hat off and bows gratefully"
"Well, erm, hmm, its alright. We've got understatement. We have strong prevailing South Westerly winds. 52% of our days are overcast, so as a nation we're infused with a wistful melancholy. But we remain a relentlessly chipper population, prone to mild eccentricity, binge drinking and casual violence"
This song tells me how different life is for northerners compared to southerners, and having lived in both michigan and florida, i know first-hand. its more gritty in northern locations, necessitating the need to 'make ur own sun'.
Love the song & Pan shots of Hyde Park along with the Prince Albert Memorial , I'm a historian & did had the chance to see the ornate memorial before they restorated & adorned the statue in Gold, It's a very intriguing piece of work, Queen Victoria was so devastated by her husbands death! She had the statue built in 1872
OLHA QUEM ESTÁ CRITICANDO É PORQUE NÃO CONHECE O TRABALHO DE TORI AMOS ELA É UNICA E NÃO PRECISA IMITAR GAGA ADORO GAGA E ACHO QUE CADA UMA TEM UM ESPAÇO QUE É TOTALMENTE DIFERENTE UMA DA OUTRA GAGA É INOVADORA E TORI JÁ É MAIS RESERVADA !!
@@endezeichengrimm Yeah. But the video is all shots of London. I showed my UK passport to some one once, and they said 'Oh. So you come from London.' Some shots of Cornwall would've been nice!
So there are only 3 tori albums missing from my catalogue of her and I just ordered this one. Now only 'Scarlet's walk' and 'The Beekeeper' are missing. Oh yeah and I still need to rebuy 'To Venus and Back'
Love it . Iove Tori, and have listened avidly since cornlake....Am so sad that this beautiful compassionate woman has resorted to cosmetic enhancement.
Ugh. How many times do we *try* to fit in to the one we love, only to find out later on it just isn't happening? This song always takes me back to the place where I thought I fit in in his life, but realized I was just faking it. :/
lucky you, i was about to see her this week in prague but she´s playing at same time as nine inch nails who were moved from some other day to this one, crap!
Hey girls, I completely agree. I checked out Kate Bush and the other two that Grange 34 recommended. Do you know other strong female musicians? I'd love to discover some more. Just hold me by maria mena is a really beautiful song btw, very raw and heart breaking.
I really love this song, I just think that the video doesn't really do her justice, don't get me wrong she looks absolutely gorgeous in it, but I don't think it's her best video, the song though is fantastic and so catchy :)
She's a witch. I'm telling you. She's cast some kind of glamour on herself so that she and her voice never age and that she produces a good album like every 1.5 years.
@starkfine4 Agreed. I'm pleased to see one of the personae from American Doll Posse in this vid. I wonder if the character in the American flag outfit is Tori (TerraTORIes).
The song is about how she moves to england to be with her new english husband and he shows her around and how foreign she feels , initially. She is a true Brit now.
She would have been 46 in 2009 and by god was she still gorgeous. I bet she still is lovely now, if I told my mum I had a crush on a woman older than her she'd maybe freak out...
This woman never disappoints me. Her music is always fresh and beautiful.
This song is PERFECT! It's so beautiful. Tori has such a way with words. There's just no one like her
I can listen to this 1000 times and get chills every time.
If it's cold outside, just close the window!
I always thought this album was underrated.
It was!
it has its amazing girls on it🖤🖤🖤
Yoko Ono just passed away 2023 🎉sad I loved her so much performance artist extrodinare rest in peace, dear friend.
@@marcrobson6157 What? She is not dead yet.....
@@marcrobson6157 Yoko Ono isn’t deceased as of 8/24/23
Scarlet's Walk is her BEST album, for me!
Hell yeah!
Couldn’t agree more ♥️
this is 8 year old comment but ... this is not from scarlet's walk i fear
but this song is from Abnormally Attracted to Sin... which is better than Scarlet's Walk

I was very surprised by how much I liked AATS after being mostly disappointed with American Doll Posse
This is a beautiful song. No one can argue with that.

I 💜 Tori Amos her voice is so hyptonizing
Tori will always be wecome to England.
Feels a little bit like her earlier material, with an extraordinary sound…what more can I add… LOVE IT!!
Music speaks for itself, Tori is magic.
I love the bass line in the chorus.
i was at the prince albert monument yesterday and listening to that song on my ipod. awesooomeee
You've got to bring your own sun... (love that lyric)

As a Floridian that moved to England 8 years I can related to the chorus of this song ....better bring your own sun.

londonismycity I've spent time exploring Bermuda on two occasions so I hear where you're coming from
