What Is A Princess?

- Ponies in executive power are called Princess. But what does that actually mean? Is royalty a genetic characteristic in the realm of ponies as tradition would have us believe? Let's attempt to answer that question together, and hope we don't fail miserably. Who's your favorite popular pretty pony princess???
I'm still stuck on a crumbling social media hellhole, so find me on it here: / banquo05

You can call me queen beeeeee~ and baby i'll ruuuuuule~~ let me live that fantasy~
I really like the idea of Sombra being so notoriously evil that his legacy is the entire reason they're afraid to call their leaders Kings/Queens.
Yeah, that same happen in the real life with one unmentionable surname which practically went extinct and a drop in popularity with a certain name which became rare. Will not write those here because algorithms might became angsty.
Them not calling their leaders "Kings" and "Queens" because of the sheer amount of trouble King Sombra and Queen Chrysalis have caused is actually pretty funny
Lauren Faust wanted Celestia to have the queen title, but “princesses” sell more toys, so Hasbro went the Disney route
Faust: yep
Also im the real queen
@Vinnloll indeed
Or this could mean Celestia and Luna's mother and father, Queen Galixa and King Cosmos are alive but even if Hasbro entertainment makes that Cannon Celestia would most likely not tell her subjects about it because as Luna puts it herself Celestia gets all teary about it but it would be really funny if we got a Celestial Luna episode in My Little Pony G4 where Celestia and Luna argue over telling their subjects about their parents it would literally be comedy relief! 🤣😂😂😂😂😂
@@DavidMuri-rm4ym faust: actually those two were me just split
Its a long story
I can tell you what happened to create G5. It was Flurry Heart. She went back in time, became corrupted as part of said time shenanigans, assumed the name Opaline, and then did some stuff to alter the flow of time and how everything works forcing Twilight to remove all magic in Equestria and condense it into 3 gems. And that's how Equestia 5.0 was made.
Honestly, Opaline secretly being Flurry Heart would be an interesting development.
It couldn't be her. Opaline said she grew up with Celestia and Luna lol
Well I mean, one could assume she did know them.... as a kid. I know this is a long stretch but I like the idea.
this is a huge stretch. plus, a small part of Flurry Heart's story is told in the stained glass windows in the last episode of G4
I'm sure u didn't even watching G5, Opaline literally grew up with Celestia and Luna
and according to new chapter, opaline was banished from skyros during twilight rule
To be fair, Blueblood in one of the comics is a very talented diplomat, teaching Shining Armor how to interact with the yaks, what not to do, what not to say.. But would he be a good ruler? I dunno.
"The Pillars of Equestria", wonderful choice of music for this topic :D
In the Journal of the 2 Sisters, its revealed after the first Hearthswarming Eve that the 3 pony tribes basically formed a confederation and voted Celestia/Luna to be their "princess".
Broadly speaking they had 3 roles:
1. moderators for internal affairs between the 3 tribes
2. diplomats to represent the 3 tribes when interacting with foreign states.
3. protectors to fight against monster threats that couldn't be reasoned with
Of course in modern times the 3 tribes are no longer official political states anymore and the Kingdom of Equestria supplanted them. I guess Celestia gradually centralized power to herself. It would also explain non-alicorn royalty like Prince Blueblood... he's likely a descendant of the original unicorn tribe royalty and not related to Celestia or Luna.
It's always funny to see how things like marketability can effect the creative process. "Sorry, but kids don't want to play with queens, they want a pretty little princess."
@Vinnloll Yes
A better question is: Are the princesses worthy of being the rulers?
I say yes, but plenty would beg to differ.
Just to add to the confusion, in Hearth's Warming Eve, there's a certain Princess Platinum, who is said to be the daughter of the king of the unicorns, who is named King Bullion according to the Journal of the Two Sisters.
Well that was before Celestia and Luna came and started to rule
what happened to the lineage of unicorn royalty once Celestia and Luna got their titles? Star Swirl just sorta decided that those two should become the princesses of the whole country and everyone just rolled with it
My theory as to why Celestia does not assume the title "queen". When the Two sisters ruled together 1000 years ago, they ruled as equals, but Celestia always got more attention. We all know how that goes, so during Lunas banishment, Celestia remained as princess instead of becoming a queen even though most ponies wanted her to be queen. I think she was thinking of her sister, and when Twilight became ruler, she wanted the other creatures to feel equal in power to her.
this is the best theory, Celestia didn't want "higher" than Luna, he wants same degree
Agreed. Goddess Save the Princesses of Equestria!
Long Live Equestria
I just waisted my time researching cadence and I think she was de aged and put through school again between the equestria equivalent of the 1970s to the 1980s, imagine your aunt putting you through school again in the 70s after turning you in to a toddler, I’d try to run away but that’s just me.
I wonder what title does opaline has in skyros since she said that that place was a city of alicorns, does that mean there's a alicorn king and queen in skyros? And all of the alicorns descendant there are bestowed the title of a "princess"
Welp guess we need to wait for more mym chapters to get the full context thing XD
You also gotta remember there's magic and real tangible destiny involved. Wings alongside a horn may be magic's way to show a pure heart fit for a ruler or another important role... byyyy making the purehearted ridiculously overpowered... Which actually wouldn't be that stupid since the powerful would naturally fall into place as royalty.
Nopony tell him about all the earth pony, unicorn, and pegasus princesses in G1-G3, 'mkay?
Congrats on 7K!
Thank you Star Strike!!
I love these informative videos classic as always
Yes
Princess is the one with the "big crown thingy" 👑
being perfectly honest i think G5 is hasbro wanting to have its cake and eat it too, they wanted the connection to g4 to bring in precvious audiences, but they also wanted to make g5 its own indipendent thing without any reliance on g4's cannon
which resulted in the BS we ended up with, dont get me wrong g5 is okay...but honestly...the story would have worked just as well if it had no connection to g4...at all.
i honestly think they should have stuck with the hard reboot they were originaly thinking of doing...they seemed to have some really interesting ideas on a new spin on things
I think at least some fanfics did something along the lines of ruling Equestrian princess getting upgraded to the title of queen after marriage with an equal in either power or title.
Suddenly I want to launch Equestria at War, just to listen to the soundtrack again.
Princess Moonbutt is best princess, cause she'd actually help with my insomnia X3
And now I know! And knowing is half the battle! ....the other half is violence :D
Great video, Ban, now figure out the G5 stuff XD
The G5 stuff will completely shatter my fragile state of mind. It makes no sense. Please spare me...
@@banquo0 I don't make the rules, Ban... I'm sorry 😢
May Lauren Faust watch over you o7
A miserable little pile of secrets!
I really like these video👍
Keep up the good work
I loved you keeping up with the mlp fim content great video the alicorns are one of the best and interesting characters of MLP.
Queen Faust: hey! The reason they call themselves princesses because im the true queen
So here’s something in always wondered: is Sombra the reason there are little to no men in positions of power? The main reasons I say this are 1. The theory that Sombra was an alicorn and 2. Big Mac wanting to be an alicorn princess(?) Would it even be possible for a stallion to become an alicorn? Or do the only way to be in high standing is something like Prince BlueBlood. (Who’s possibly only given the title do to being Celestial’s adopted Nephew)
Concerning G5, ya know what, fair 😂😂😂😂
Fantastic video Banquo0 and thank you for enlightening us with pony knowledge!
Continue the good work /)
a miserable little pile of secrets
Awesome work
another great video! These helped me with all my assignments, I couldn't get through life without knowing the answers to these essential questions.
This will not just lead to my success, but plans for world domination.
It's way too easy to be a princess when you are A GOD!
Surely Celeatia had to overthrow or unalive somepony for her title if before her kings like Sombra existed at all!
well... there is also kind off alicorn that isn't princess in G5 as well :3
They have a fairly similar political system to Ooo
"Queen" mean that there must be a king too, but since there only princess, Celestia can rule by her own, especially with the fact that shes adult. Usually with princess must be regent, but hey, it's a magical world with talking ponies. There's no need to over complex explanation
Here is my headcanon: not counting prince(ss)-heirs, there are three types of prince(ss)es in Equestria.
The first two are the adaptation of real world title of "Princeps" which is equivalent to "Emperor". Most notable historic usages of it are by Prince(ps) of Wales, to denote his superiority to the petty kings of Wales and the King of England; and by the Roman Emperors during the period known as the Principate (early Empire, as of emperor Diocletian and the Tetrarchy, the preferred title is "Domus" and the period is referred to as the Dominate). The latter is actually where all the uses of "prince(ss)" in the English language derive from
The difference between those first two types is similar to the Roman Tetrarchy which featured two senior emperors, the Augusti, and two junior emperors, the Caesares. This is where Celestia and Luna, and Cadance and Twilight fall into respectively
Finally, the third category is exemplified by Prince Blueblood. Also known as sovereign prince, this title is used for rulers of a principality, which is a noble title ranking below kingdom
You’re just going
bonkers
4:50
wait does that mean G5 sunny is a princess
I think g5 confused me what a princess is,since pipp and zip are princesses,it seems like they threw this idea out the window of what we know
not technically because when Sunny goes Alicorn it's like Goku going SSJ
No. Her wings aren't stay permanent. So she can't be princess.
4:22 but Yak ruler called prince too... oh, wait, judging by the map Yakyakistan can be an actual principality.
What is a *princess* ? a royal femenine born being?
Its strange that celestia luna and cadence are princesses and not you know queens.
Apparenyly Lauren Faust initially wanted Celestia to be queen, but since the show was directed towards children, and thanks to the whole Disney track record, princesses would sell better. I think of Celestia as a queen for this reason since she basically is, just called princesss for the kids.
Why the God save the King/Queen parody?
☀️🌒💕💜
The Immortal Sisters are princesses... BECAUSE CHRIST IS OUR KING 👑
