Man, I went back & forth too. I woke up this morning to pre-order, but when it came down to finishing the checkout, I just couldn’t do it. I’m sure I will instantly regret it, when I see everybody start to receive theirs. Looking forward to seeing what you think!
I was literally about to do the same thing. Was back and forth cuz i would use it for mainly streaming but with no netflix and youtube tv it makes it an easy pass for me for now
I pre-ordered the Vision Pro with 512GB storage. If I can do my editing with this device, I’ll certainly need it. Would be nice to know if iMovie will be supported.
They did announce that most apps will be iPadOS versions, so… yes. I expect that this year‘s WWDC will have the visionOS apps. I’m just wondering if they’ll have a final cut version before they make an iMovie version? I’m guessing the telemetry and demand from business (if Bob Iger leans into this) I definitely could see FCP first.
I’ve all felt since first seeing this that it’s only being released as a massive test. There is no way that Apple could research a product like this without a large test group. So they offset some of the prototype cost by releasing it, increasing their test group and getting valuable data for future versions. They test manufacturing, compatibility, use cases, environment, and every metric they could hope for without paying for it but by being paid for it.
I think it’s both. They’ve spent 15 years in the lab on this. It’s just reached a point where they could sell the price point for their ambitions. They truly want an experience without the ski mask, but the hardware is still way too far away as an accessible consumer device. Definitely agree in this being a beta edition, but in a way Apple can only do. Most of the tech they packed is a decade ahead of its time from those who are in the space, and it’s only due to their cash flow they could get this out at this quality at this time. Happy they did it though. As one who’s followed the “spacial computing” market since I did dev work on HoloLens I see the future for this tech, but it really needs to get to a form of mass adoption in some capacity for it to survive. And with how meta approached it, they went arguably too cheap on the core software in being able to pull this off. However now that Apple is platforming it, excited for the next decade in how all forms of this form of technology will transform the way we live.
I ordered an 513 Gb version which was due to arrive Feb 2. But after thinking about it some I really could not justify the more than 4K price (with tax) for a first gen product. So I cancelled.
I wear glasses (trifocals). I assume I would only need one focal with the Vision Pro, but I am interested in the prescription glasses replacement part of the experience.
I think it is meant to be your Rx for medium to far distance, but I am not sure on the details there as all I have are glasses for distance. I did order the lenses from Zeiss and they walk you through a series of questions to figure out what you need.
I woke up at 4:55am to get ready and was able to configure mine just fine. For unknown reasons, i faced multiple issues during checkout. I was finally able to checkout but with a deliver date of 2/11.
I had checkout issues too. The website told me three times that there was a problem with my purchase and I had to start over from scratch. Each time I put my order in, the delivery date slipped - from Feb 2 in-person pickup at 10am, to Feb 2 at 5pm, to MARCH 10 with home delivery as my only option - no in-store setup dates available at any of the six Apple stores near me. Each time it said there was a problem and I had to try again. I was about to give up… And then… my email showed that ALL THREE orders had gone through after all! So I was able to cancel two of the orders and just keep the earliest one. But for some (again, mysterious) reason, it’ll now arrive at home on Feb 13-16, no in-store setup. Super weird, but hey - at least it’s coming.
What did you think of the productivity situation with quest 3. It also has up to 5 monitors and avatar zoom calls (etc) albeit not as polished as apples version. But I’d recommend quest 3 to try it out. After having worked and done avatar zoom calls and discord video chats I can say it’s likely not for me. I rarely really need more than 2 monitors. And I have that already. Feels like the future to work in AR like this. But it’s still more of a gimmick at this point. Just drinking a cup of coffee becomes a hassle in these headsets…
I want one so bad, but I don’t have a real use case for it yet…. Or at least to justify spending 3.5k starting. Huge believer in what they’re attempting and know that they’re only scratching the surface in what they’ve shown (to tamper expectations). But it definitely may end up on my Christmas list
I’m excited at the prospect of spatial computing. We are probably 10-20 years from truly wearable glasses. But I’m glad the future has begun. And that someone else bought the 1.0. version 😊. I look forward to your reviews and experiences with this device.
I want one but I’m gonna wait and hopefully the price will come down. Don’t get me wrong if I had the $3,500 I’d definitely pay the premium price. Great video.
I’m considering getting it for the exact reason you mention! I work from home in Wisconsin, can’t stand staring at my office wall most cold fall/winter/spring days, and an interested in the change of pace working at Mt. Hood or Joshua Tree, and hopefully the beach. I’m curious, how do you like working in the environments, and how has it helped your work?
I really like the working environments for that exact purpose. If I need to abruptly shift gears in my workday and focus on a different task for an hour, which is very common for me as a developer, I strap on the Vision Pro and connect my work Mac to it. It's expensive for this use, but for me, it's a lot less expensive and time-consuming than buying a second family car and driving to somewhere else to work for some of the day.
I me-too on appreciating a change of scenery to stave off monotony and motivation drain. I don't get a view or change of venue anymore for my workspace. First time in 15 years I haven't lived a walk away from shared office space, libraries, coffee shops, corner dine-n-work places, bars with wifi, parks with good cell coverage.
How much do I have to make a year to buy something like this, I have about $10 in my bank account atm because I’m in college how much should I make to spare this kind of money for “fun”
If you’re without debt, and don’t live in the fanciest place in a cosmopolitan metropolis, a modest $90k/year can get you a base model. However, no need to rush. Apple is at least investing 5-10 years in this. The refurbished market will be a plenty soon
It'll be interesting to see how well it works for you as a "work environment", and how well it works with HomeKit devices. I could *MAYBE* see buying one of these if it's useful for getting my job done (I work on computers all day, every day), while I have no interest in spending anywhere near this kind of money for an entertainment device.
I’m seeing so many Apple UA-camrs put out videos today about why they bought a Vision Pro. Guys, you can skip all the is-it-worth-it hand wringing and just explain how you got your wife to agree to this.
I feel claustrophobic just looking at the thing. Keenly awaiting your reviews/experiences and hopeful to learn about things that I just didn't see coming!
There's too many things about the product that are uncertain to justify the hefty early-adopter price. But of all the potential issues, prism vision issues was the deal breaker for me. If my eyes won't work with this product then that's it, do not pass go or collect by $3,400 dollars. Once they create the true AR glasses experience I'll be the first to update my prescription and order .00001 seconds upon the pre-orders commencing.
Thanks , as always , for the video. While I sooooo often have a kink in launch day orders (I’ve been Mac consultant since 1984), my order went PERFECTLY well. I’m super shocked. The AopleCare price made me VERBALLY “ouch!” But I bit the bullet in that and 1tb. So 5 friigin $K. That said, not as dumb as my December 2019 $12k purchase of MacPro 6 months before Apple Silicon. I MAY be dumb to do this. But, since 1984, it is my obsession and business. But I have no idea how useful this will be. And I surely will have to spend ANOTHER $5k in 3 years when they get this right. But, now I am SWEATING bullets waiting for the god named ZEISS to approve my subscription. I won’t rest until I know they don’t cancel my order from my aged eyes 👀. Thanks again for video. - Eric ZORK Alan & Sweetie [ Professional Poets & Bed 🛏️ & Beer🍺 Vloggers ]
