I loved your first version and I love this version as well - it's utterly sublime. Thank you for sharing your amazing talent and making a very beautiful, haunting melody even more beautiful.
I loved your first rendition, and when listening to this one I can tell that you’ve perfected it over the years in subtle but meaningful ways. Perhaps it’s just a comfort or familiarity that I’m picking up on, or maybe confidence? Either way, It is beautiful, you are a beautiful pianist, and you really have done this song justice. You’ve captured an emotion, and in that energy Michael continues to live on ❤️ thank you Simon!
Thanks for your very nice comment! Yes, I wanted to do an upgrade, so people could now see and follow my hands/fingers way better while I play it. Also I had a new iPad so I was curious if it would sound different/better than on the old iPad. (My very first movie uploads here one UA-cam are made with a quirky camera 😳🙈🫣). And yes, maybe what you hear is some more comfort, and familiarity, or confidence even maybe, true, but besides that also I think a more detailed ear. When you get older, your ear develops more and more, so you're more critical to what you record. And in this case, with this song, it's not technically hard, or virtuosic, like Chopin, Beethoven, Rachmaninoff, or Bach, but still, to capture the essence of the song, the right timing, the right pace, the right color, the right emotion, the right amount of passion, the right dynamics, with only 1 piano, that makes it very hard to play any popsong, in my opinion. So, here, I just show one other attempt to let this amazing song of MJ shine in all its glory. Especially the "feel" and emotion and loneliness in this song, and the amazing vocal and rhythmical talent of Michael Jackson was unsurpassed, and are so wonderfully present in his recording. Thanks again, kind regards from The Netherlands! Simon 🎹
@@simonvanthoff Excellent, Simon. I love this song, it's so unusual, emotional, and frankly, addictive. I love your Pleyel. It has a softer more nuanced sound than other pianos, esp. the Steinway, which is too hard and brilliant for my ears. In fact, I have a Pleyel. I've been trying to play this song, but I'm no good at improvising. I've had a classical training and it's difficult for us improve or play jazz or pop.
@@elizabethcsicsery-ronay1633 thanks for you comment! And how nice to hear you're also familiar with Pleyel! This one is from 1973, so, it's manufactured by Schimmel, but in name and specifications it's still Pleyel. On this simple IPad-recordings you cannot really hear the real beauty and silvery, singing, colored tone of the instrument, to be honest. In real life it sounds way more "specific" so to speak, than the regular yamaha for example. It's such a pity that this kind of brands are not really in the market any more...so, well, in shops I always without exceptions go to the second hand department, in the hope to find this kind of older brands. Coincidentally, they have now 2 Pleyels in our local shop, here in Tilburg. One of the '80s, black and larger than mine, and also a HUGE one, brown, from around 1900 ! It is old and deteriorating but even considering that, it still sounds and feels soooo much more special than all that endless black, mostly Asian sameness that dominated in all those shops nowadays. For example it's huge, strong, soft, big, colorful, resonating, impressive basses sounds sooooo good, I am always surprised by that, with such an old and weared instrument. Yes, I understand what you mean about being classical trained. In fact, I am also. But, that said, I just LOVE popmusic all of my life, so I just always have played it, or tried to play it, from child on. Finding the right "groove" is indeed one of the most difficult things with these kind of songs. But, with experience and practice you are able to do it. It's just like mastering a classical piece, in that sense, it also takes patience, effort, precision, and trying and studying it a lot. Thanks for your kind reply! Kind regards, greetings from The Netherlands, Simon 👍🏻🎹

@@ethanwalker3909 hi again! Well, I can only say that it's main difficulty is in the rhythmic part of the song: dividing the intricate percussion and drumming in two hands, together with the (very simple) melody and chords. The chords are basically only 4 chords in the verses (Eb, Db, Gb, Ab7) and 4 chords in the chorus (Emaj7, A, Dmaj7, G). So, if you know these, I can only advise: play the wonderful original track on good sounding speakers, sit behind your piano, and try many many many times to play along with Michael and find your "own groove" during that process 👍🏻🎹🎶💪🏻☺️
@@ethanwalker3909 👍🏻👍🏻 good luck! 🎹🎶 that s the way I learned about almost every popsong played here on my channel. Also a wonderful way to train your ears, and develop something of your "own" sound ☺️👍🏻
