Thanks. Very clear and direct information. Got a P0171 on my XJ and I refuse to bring out the parts cannon like I would do in the past. I now have a direction to go to fixing this problem.
Another lean misfire issue vortecs are notorious for are knock sensor harness failures related to continuity. Generally shows up as knock sensor failure.
I just ran across this video, ihave the same codes on my 01 sport trac ,I think with my issue it may be the evap line causing it I have tried to repair it once and I beleiev that is the problem the engine runs kinda wierd like the rpms go up alittle then down do you think an injector would cause rpms to be up and down im kinda lost with this I bought the trk from nieghbor about 2 yrs ago recently ive has these looking at the intake it appears that he changed the injectors at some point but anyway I tend believe it may be the evap ive tried to repair I dont have thousands of $ to have looked at and repaired im not sure what it would cost anyway what would look at if you were me thank you
Will MAF cause truck to idle weird and big out when pressing gas pedal??..I replaced throttle body, started rite up but went back to loss of power and weird idle...please help
My gmc has 200,000 miles, fuel mpg was getting bad so i replaced my fuel injectors with ac delco and now i have these codes, is there a possibility for an air pocket to get trapped in tbe fuel rail and cause these codes?
I have both p0171 and p0174 on my 200 chevy s10 4.3L v6. Only happens in the summer though. In the winter it drives like new and I'm lost. I've replaced both the fuel pump and fuel filter twice, maf like 5 times (autozone junk), I've replaced the pcv valve and the hose and boot. From what I can tell there's no intake leak, but I cannot confirm that. I do have an exhaust leak at my downstream o2 sensor and I know that because I had both catalytic converters replace and they inspected it and told me. I have not yet replaced my injectors and plan to just because. I was also told it could be the exhaust leak or coolant temp sensor. Any ideas? I did the live data and everything appears to be perfect. In the winter it has 0 issues and never has any code whether it's pending or stored codes.
@@_afexx_8195 I did. It turns out my fuel injector spider was the problem. GM used a terrible fuel injection system and made a new one called a MPFI which has the injectors on the ends of the spider legs instead of the base of the spider. All my issues went away and my truck drives so nicely now
@@_afexx_8195 make sure you get the ones labeled MPFI. Autozone has them for about $400. The original style costs about the same so you might as well do the upgrade. 100% worth it
While yes, the stoichiometric ratio for gasoline as a fuel is 14.7 to 1, that is based on a calculation. In most actual real world use, a richer ratio, one usually below 14.0 to 1 gives you the best performance which in my opinion gives you the best value. Yes, you may not get as complete of burn in the engine which can lead to higher carbon emmisions but better performance. As with just about everything, compromises need to be made. Do you give up power for better emissions or do you live with higher emissions for better performance?

Gotta love the "Parts Canon", I'm sharing this video with every mechanic friend I have. Thank You Much.
If u have high fuel trims and they improve with higher rpms start looking for a vacuum leak
What if they get worse
I appreciate the new way you describe these fixes.
Thank you. Excellent overview!!! 👍😎
Got the p174 code its the Intake Manifold Gasket

i replaced my knock sensors and harness plus siliconed them in place so hopefully no issues
Thanks for the quick run down. Great video.

I will keep maybe clearing the code over and over 😀

My issues pops up these codes at idle. If I start the motor and don’t let it idle the codes will not pop up. FF data shows at 600 rpm
But Jerry the parts guy like it when the parts cannon goes off.
Good old-fashioned carb cleaner works well for finding leaks..
So does propane too
Thank you for the help.
