All I want fom Airtable: 1. Use Page Designer to design a PDF from table content. 2. Have that PDF automatically generated and saved to an attachment field any time the record is updated.
Awesome! i have a few questions: 1) How can i save as PDF back in airtable? 2) can i format the doc? Something like html format, like the emails automation
If you add "/export?format=pdf" to the end of the Doc url, and if the doc was stored in a public folder, you can put that in the Automation step where you're Updating the invoice which will let Airtable upload a PDF version of the file to the attachment field. You don't need a formula field or extra automation steps, just put the export bit at the end of the file url. Taken from @amodelmannequin 's super helpful comment on one of GAP's previous Airtable / Google Docs invoicing vids. Not 100% sure why that step hasn't been included here. ua-cam.com/video/X0LQ7uypaNE/v-deo.html
Very good method to avoid billable services like Documint but the header of the columns on a black background automatically created by google docs is not at all esthetic and not very suitable for printing. Is there any way to avoid or eliminate this background?
Thanks Gareth! Is there a way to improve the overall design/format of the created doc? Usually using Make you build you Google Doc template before, map the variables before sending them. Could we do something similar? Both creating and/or updating the document? I am currently trying to find the best way to generate reports (on google doc) that may includes "dynamic tables"... I find it very complex to insert tables in GoogleDoc using Making. While on the other side, Airtable has the capacity to create those grids/tables amazingly.
Thanks for this great tutorial! I was unable to finish though, got stuck on minute 14 where we are in the content part (in the Google Docs button, under properties window), click + then find records, select grid, it opens up all the fields to show, the 'insert' button does not activate no matter what I select there. I tried finding out why in many ways but did not get an answer... Does anyone know how to fix it?
Another great walk-through Gareth, thank you for the clear explanation that builds on some previous invoice-focused videos. * Important to note that Google Docs integration now requires upgrading to the Airtable's Pro plan. See the section below the one seen in your video (ua-cam.com/video/WEHEVqxB4ps/v-deo.html) labeled "Upgrade to integrate with…" as its header.
I love your content but your videos are very often missing visuals. Verbal descriptions are not enough. I usually have to watch your videos backwards, jumping around, to understand what you're talking about.

There's a 3rd party tool that can help with this. Check out Documint

I'm curious about that as well - have you found a good solution for it?

Is there an option to modify a document or create a template? Using HTML, Markdown, or another set of tags?
This is great! How do you manage to make that client pay the invoice ? Is there a way yo send a payment link with the invoice ?
i think you should add link previously in a field, and then map it the same way Gareth does in the video with the invoice number
