Yup. Ryan's argument is a moot point. There is no industry then if it's not at the top. The MIC is HUGE but not as big as some other industries for obvious reasons. It also drives our economy.
Small arms manufacturers are Literally REELING From the Complete Fugazi Firestorm around Rapid Prototyped 3d printed metal plated PLASTIC GARBAGE. Sustainability should never be applicable to a Firearm Receiver
Exactly. Nothing to do with the supply chain, nothing to do with profit margin or shareholder value. When you have the largest military the world has ever known, and pretty much everybody in charge wants to make it BIGGER…. Might sort of be a clue there. We have fourteen aircraft carriers to Russia’s ONE. Do we think Russia is dangerously under armed? And we only have 14 because we play games calling the dozens of assault carriers a different thing but those would be aircraft carriers in any other country but us. If we stopped procuring *any* new weapons system what would happen tomorrow? Well we’d still have the largest. Best equipped most advanced fighting force for the next twenty years at least. You could make the argument that us’ lack of weaponry was dangerous in the lead up to www, but in reality the us navy was just as strong as it needed to be and we held off Germany AND JAPAN. IF Ukraine has taught us anything it should be that we don’t need 800 foreign military bases to fight the likes of Russia or china. And in the case of china hey maybe we don’t even want to get into an arms race we can’t win.

If we put about a billion dollars into it, I'm sure we can stimulate a home grown drone industry. We've done everything else we'll meet at. We'll build a nuclear bottom from theory.
Yes it takes a long time to make the fabs though so we'll be reliant on Taiwan for awhile no matter what. We'd also need more than a billion dollars to get on the level of Taiwan.
It's not so much of a consumer drone infrastructure funding issue that the "free world" lacks, it's more the ongoing software/hardware engineering development costs (compared to China) that allows them to produce fantastic state of the art technologies for 10-25 percent of our costs. Twenty-five years ago I was a software development manager paying contract employees $75-100/Hr. ($140-150 in today's money), and that was for average developers, not state of the art design engineers and system analysts. Doing a quick search of Shenzhen, China for software engineers, they earn $50K - $100K, about one-half a counterpart's salary in the Western world for the same skill level who are working "9-9-6" (9AM to 9PM working 6 days a week).

this guy lost credibility for me when he said Northrop grumman lost out on their yf-34. i can tell he was talking about the yf-23, and a huge reason why Lockheed got that contract with the yf-22 was because northop grumman had the b2 spirit contract, and the dod was trying to protect Lockheed with their own large contract. that was an example of the government protecting one of the defense contractors. saying there is no military industrial complex is just ridiculous

He’s just weaving almost like he’s been paid to support the complex and war machine. Goofball he doesnt care about the morality he just wants the money. He works for companies that make products for the complex.. he’s biased. He’s chugging whiskey… out of his mind.
This guy really just said the military industrial complex is a myth because the fifth of the top 5 companies of it only profited 4 billion dollars last year. That’s his reason. Bryan has no knowledge so he doesn’t push back
Oversimplified he more said that he doesnt think its a nefarious cabal that is spreading and getting bigger for the strict purpose of growing power. More that its just the natural progression of business its always cheaper to outsource and you cant do everything yourself so much like a pencil your gonna have to get the rubber from here wood from there lead there etc. Now thats where i disagree with him i think that hes right on it being created with no malice but it definately continued and created some. But i think him speaking about the budgets lends some credence because its not the company its more so the government making the bank off the deals to sell those weapons the trade deals etc. Not to say there isnt a shadow budget that isnt accounted for the government does pay them out of those deals but atleast publicly they make much less kickback than the average person thinks
Congrats, Ryan ... on finding "your" hat. The Panama is awesome; those trilbys(?) / pork pies(?) you usually wear are total dork -- unless you, as a stealthy intel guy, think you can fly under the radar that way. The interview was also top-notch.
McBeth's take on the military industrial complex is so completely out of touch. It isn't about the VALUE of the companies or their profits. It is about their incestuous relationship with our military and government.
@shawnerz98 you're misunderstanding what I'm talking about. The company's profits and stock valuation is irrelevant to how bad it is for the country. The COST is a problem and the incestuous relationships. If you're making $10 billion in profits I don't give a shit. If you're charging me $50,000 for a hammer we have a fuckin problem.
How detatched does someone need to be to not make the connection between how much money a company makes and how much they charge for their products? I wonder if anything else you think is as unreliable as this opinion.
Added note peter zeihan (or however you spell his name) is also in the same camp. I listen to both these clowns. They are right on certain things but are also incredibly biased and or wrong about other things.

.... someone who works for the military industrial complex denying there is a military industrial complex.... i see what he's saying, i think there is A LOT more to it. US picking Sig over and over without military trials is just one example.....
he was also referring to the yf-23 in his example, and what he missed was that it wasn't all because the yf-22 was more cost effective. it also had to do with the government trying to protect lockheed by giving them a contract, because northrop grumman had the large b2 spirit contract and lockheed didn't have shit. in his attempt at using an example to say the government doesn't protect defense contractors, he accidentally brought up an example in which the government protected a defense contractor
Can you define what exactly the MIC is then? Cause it seems like a random, ubiquitous, esoteric term that everyone throws around like its gospel. Like, we're about to spend more on just interest payments on our Debt than we spent on the entire US military plus the MIC combined. There's multiple US companies with higher valuations than almost the entire MIC combined. How is that remotely a major thing anymore?
Sig won the NGSW and M17 trials. Now I believe Glock should have won the pistol trials but Sig beat them on cost. You are trying to make a point but you lied, Sig won the trials.

@JessiBear as someone who is in the military, Bronze Stars don't mean anything especially if it is given to an officer and there is no "V" device. I've known specialists and SGTs that have been in heavy combat and get lucky to get an AAM. While some S1 CPT get a Bronze Star for a paper cut.
Ryan, the problem is that those parts and sources ABSOLUTELY can come from same locations or far fewer. They don't because of the IMC and Congress and Senates corrupt nature where each one wants "good paying jobs for their constituents ". It's been shown in plenty of counter arguments how much less certain military projects such as aircraft could cost of they built or purchased so many parts from companies within the same States or close to where the aircraft are being built. It's only gotten worse. When aircraft manufacturers used to win bids they were the sole company, now when they bid congress steps in and says " yes but you need to let the loser company build this part or that part" and then it becomes a multi company project. F22 and F35 are perfect examples.

Colt is now Czech owned🇨🇿

It's good to see Bryan bringing in people that know their shit. Bravo good sir, bravo! 👏 👏 👏

This guy is good, I've listened to his breakdowns before and he's fun.
Ryan: Okinawa is 500 miles, Phillipines is 600, Japan is 1300, Guam is 1800. All distances are approximated
I can't wait to hear Bryan's comparison of Trump and Roosevelt, since he's been alive for both.
I love when Brian asks a direct question to an expert, and then cuts that person off while they are answering the question and changes the subject 😂
Ryan is based.
You mean biased?
I really appreciate that they got into the nuances of the Gaza/Israel situation.
I love Ryan but talking to him about the MIC is like talking to a fish about water.
Great conversation. Glad we still have you here on utube. Consistency! I want my videos
When are you going to have Chris Delia on the podcast?
They don't even know each other. They met once at the comedy club. that's it.
Chris is babysitting Brian's children

Love you man. Great show. But honestly I just want you to know you are loved. You have made me laugh so hard. I thought I was going to piss my pants.

Why do I feel like Bryan could be the one educating Ryan… seriously.
Too many interruptions. I really wanted to hear Ryan explain why the small diameter bomb doesn't work. Please slow down the pace of the interview enough to allow the guest to finish a point. Otherwise, it's just noise.
this guy lost credibility for me when he said Northrop grumman lost out on their yf-34. i can tell he was talking about the yf-23, and a huge reason why Lockheed got that contract with the yf-22 was because northop grumman had the b2 spirit contract, and the dod was trying to protect Lockheed with their own large contract. that was an example of the government protecting one of the defense contractors. saying there is no military industrial complex is just ridiculous
I agree with you on the MIC / iron triangle, but as a veteran alcoholic, the dude seems shit-faced to me from the start. Throwing them back pretty fast in the video too.
We can probably be charitable give him a pass on the wrong prototype designation. 😅
@@johnnycomelately9400 same, I can tell he was drunk the first time he said Himars. I love woodford reserve, and I drink fast, but not that fast

He’s just weaving almost like he’s been paid to support the complex and war machine. Goofball he doesnt care about the morality he just wants the money. He works for companies that make products for the complex.. he’s biased. He’s chugging whiskey… out of his mind.
Well you do want to protect some of these guys because otherwise they get a monopoly and price gouge more than they already do.
Outstanding interview with my friend Ryan🤙
Ryan McBeth the military bureaucracies biggest OPP
Thanks, Bryan.
Ryan is so awesome!!!
As a host he must ask obvious questions like about HIMARS for the benefit of the listeners. Give him a break.
No, he is just dumb and knows nothing about the war in Ukraine.
Bryan and Ryan hell yeah
What a difference between talking about Ukrainian and Israel war.

Is that a bad thing? If money isn't the issue, then what's wrong with the relationships?
@shawnerz98 you're misunderstanding what I'm talking about. The company's profits and stock valuation is irrelevant to how bad it is for the country. The COST is a problem and the incestuous relationships. If you're making $10 billion in profits I don't give a shit. If you're charging me $50,000 for a hammer we have a fuckin problem.
How detatched does someone need to be to not make the connection between how much money a company makes and how much they charge for their products? I wonder if anything else you think is as unreliable as this opinion.
@firelock9080 your willful misunderstanding of my point is not my problem.

Great 👍 one and very prescient and interesting topics for consideration.
Have to disagree with Ryan regarding the effects of a Trump admon.
He openly prefers loyalty to him over professional conpetence. His appointees will be lackeys rather than subject matter experts.
yeah I'm thinking that's wishful thinking on his part. Trump and many of his main supporters have made comments about reducing or ending continued support for Ukraine or finding a quick deal, that I don't think Harris would have done.

Reading the comments it’s like everybody knows everything instead of a guy that works in intelligence lol
Bro 😂😂😂 intelligence gets it wrong all the time.
yha, he is lying
Ryan Mcbeth is legit. Listen to this dude
.... someone who works for the military industrial complex denying there is a military industrial complex.... i see what he's saying, i think there is A LOT more to it.

I'm watching this on November 13th, and Trump has nominated a Fox News host as the Secretary of Defense. Best people?
The man is a 20 year combat veteran commander with combat tours in 3 warzones and two bronze stars.
@JessiBear and he deserves respect for that. Does any of that qualify him to be SOD?
The US is cooked and China will take advantage of that

Ryan gives people a Lot of the benefit of the doubt, over projects his own positions a bit much
