  • 'Hurt!' How has Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Netflix show impacted Royals? | Palace Confidential? Despite the barbs and criticisms aimed at the Royal Family in the Netflix series Harry and Meghan, the King has so far decided to keep his counsel, but will that change once Harry’s book comes out? The Daily Mail’s Royal Editor Rebecca English says the Palace are determined not to be drawn ‘into a constant tit-for-tat’ over the matter, but that it must be putting a strain on the monarch. ‘The King has made a very conscious decision that this is his son, he loves him,’ she tells our royal talk show Palace Confidential. ‘He’s not going to respond and the door is always there and is open for him, but you’ve got to ask yourself: how much can one man take?’
She also looks at the fallout between the once inseparable William and Harry and says, despite everything, insiders believe there still could be a rapprochement, albeit a long way off.
‘One person, earlier on this year said to me, “I can’t believe, given how close they were as brothers that William would ever completely close that door on his brother - they’ve been through too much. And they could see a time in the future… that there is some kind of rapprochement or dialogue”,’ she adds. ‘Based on what we’ve seen over the last few weeks and what’s still to come, I think we are talking about the distant future for that.’

@Nicole Heatherington I believe that is what he was allowed to access. I understand from some previous reports that his inheritance is in a trust and that his aunts have control. He gets an allowance from it, I think. He apparently can't get full access until he's 45(?) & even then, only with the trustees' approval. At least that's what I've read before he even met Meghan and, again, a few months after their engagement was announced. I honestly would be interested in whether or not there's any truth to this. Supposedly, the trustees are Diana's sisters, a solicitor associated with King Charles and Princess Royal Anne. The Princess Royal is apparently a fairly recent addition (2013?). Under present circumstances, this arrangement is a very good one. My opinion.

So sick of hearing how traumatic Harry's childhood was.
Yes, he lost a parent, that is terrible. However, he had a doting father, loving, protective brother and adoring grandparents. Also, he had enormous privelige where others who lose a parent often have financial deprivation thrust upon them as well.
Life is a series of ups and downs, it's how we cope that makes difference.
Harry, it seems, is happiest wallowing in his self pity.

Remind me how many people have had to walk behind the their mother's coffin in front of the world and then had their every step commented, exploited by the British media. Also his loving protective brother never once defended him and asked to media to stop their relentless attacks on him and his wife. He also let his Press secretary testify against his own sister-in-law to defeat her case. Who needs a "protective" brother like that??

I think one of the saddest stories coming out of the UK during 2023, was that of two honourable, courageous people who I've known for my entire life as our Canadian Sovereign and Prince, who devoted themselves to their country for their entire adult lives, ended their days being hurt and emotionally blackmailed by someone they trusted. This by a pair of grasping, greedy, unethical con artists masquerading as relatives, to the point where it really shortened the lives of both the Queen and Prince Philip. There's no forgiveness for that. I felt strongly that someone in Govt. should have intervened and told the Markles in no uncertain terms to back off and stay backed off. The cruelty that Meghan and Harry brought to bear on the Royal Family during Prince Philip's last days was imho warlike.
Nobody civilized could behave like that, this is the behaviour of criminal-minded people who lie like they breathe - and I've stopped excusing Harry. The Press had more respect, unless of course you're Gayle King, who is pretty dense. The continued harshness, the demands, the refusal to see anyone else's side of things, kept on going after the Queen died.
Harry reportedly got into a row with his father when he was told that Meghan could not come to Balmoral, that it would be "inappropriate" for her to be there. He stayed on the phone w Charles so long, that the private jet holding the siblings, waiting for Harry, finally had to take off, which meant that they missed time with the Q before she died. Harry had to find his own plane, and then of course he blamed his father, made up some story about not being notified. They just piled one insult on after another, and I can't say I know anyone else like that, unless it's The Sopranos, and even they respect family ties more than that.
Meghan thinks she's pretty brilliant, but it's all going to come a cropper in some sort of sinkhole before too long.

Exactly. A parent dying when he was 12-13 yes is sad. As was the divorce of his parents. But he has had many more opportunities than most children of divorce and of a parent who has died. My parents didn’t die, however, I can honestly say my life would have been better if they had. I say this with all honesty because I grew up in an horrendously abusive family. My mother was shockingly abusive to me with physical, emotional and mental abuse and my father was worse - sexually abusing me from age two until I was in my early twenties when I finally managed to escape. He was also physically, mentally and emotionally abusive to me. When I finally managed to leave, I told the police and they were both arrested, charged, a 5 week long trial. I went to counselling, for over ten years and thankfully because of my hard work and my friends who supported me and the police who have continued to support me, I have moved forward. I still have the occasional nightmare etc but otherwise, life is great. Harry needs to recognise that many of us, endured horrific upbringings. Most of us accept it and move forward. There is absolutely no reason for the royal family to apologize to H or M. Any interaction that they have will be used as fodder to keep the argument and drama going. The only thing those two grifters have to bring attention to themselves is the RF’s love for Harry. Harry’s eyes are as big as saucers in that Netflix series. I am sure if he is not taking the drugs himself someone is feeding them to him on the sly. The Royal family needs to keep him at arms length until all of that can be resolved. However, now that they know what a weak link he is I think he probably needs to be kept at arms length forever,

She got it for highlighting sexual violence towards women in war zones, travelled to countries that no royal had ever been to raise this issue. Queen Camilla has worked for 10 years to bring change to how domestic violence survivors are treated. Catherine, the Princess of Wales, has been working the mental health space and with early childhood developement for over 10 years. And this is just some of the women. Once the family starts answering to the claims coming from the duke and duchess of woke and lies. It would be a tit for tat engagement that will be never ending and that is precisely what these 2 spoiled, ungrateful lying brats want and need in order to keep those big paychecks coming in. Without the connection to the BRF, these 2 have nothing else they can provide to anyone, due to their lack of talent, intelligence and likeability, that can land them the kind of deals that could pay enough to support their ridiculously lavish lifestyle, that I believe has become a struggle for them in the last year. The grey rock method is the only way to successfully deal with a malignant narcissist. Especially when it comes to Harry's wife whose attention seeking knows no bounds and for them to be ignored like this and knowing the whole world knows the family is ignoring her, drives her up a wall and that is why she keeps exposing herself and why both Harry and his wife can't even track the most recent lies. I have to disagree with "the Palace bent over backwards but in their own funny little way". Funny little way !?!
A million £ wedding ( they were offered a small private one but chose the whole shebang one).
The £2milion totally renovated Frogmore Cottage . ( Queen paid for Reno. Charles paid for contents).
    Prestigious overseas tours.
Being offered Sophie Wessex as a mentor (M refused).
30 page dossier compiled by the Queens most senior aide on everything from hierarchy, etiquette & dress code to walkabouts, with a long list of useful contacts (M contacted 2).
Being given Samantha Cohen the Queens most respected & trusted long term employee to head up their team ( she described them as "exhausting, entitled teenagers").
King Charles financing their first year away from the family & the deposit for the Montecito home. Harry's resentment at his brother & the pecking order has been there for years , but growing up Harry had to suppress it, because of Diana repeatedly stating in interviews , that she wanted Harry to be his brothers 'wingman'. His wife's own resentment at the pecking order just fuelled what was simmering away already.

I am so glad someone said this and you said it perfectly. I think it is unfair and unjust to judge an institution that has its own set of rules with the rules of others. They have their own process to follow and quite frankly, even for me, as someone who used to be very ignorant and against the monarchy, even I noticed that MM was given much better treatment than any other girlfriend before. I am old enough to be Harry's age, so I remember the dynamics surrounding Diana and Kate very well. This is why I have become obsessed with her. She is a master manipulator and she is fkg winning! I am worried for the state of the world, if we are this easily fooled! Not only that, but you can't even criticize her or state an opposite opinion because immediately you will be called a hater and a racist. It is upsetting, debilitating, and quite frankly, scary. If we are censoring each other like this, we will never improve as humans. Only truth can illuminate. So, please, people who know nothing about MM, just go do your fkg homework!!!!

I mean, okay, her husband loved somebody else - incredibly sad and hurtful but seeing his mother running around with millionaires as their girlfriend can hardly have been good. As for the Lady Hussey saga, I would say that the "offended" lady did not go through a terrible time - she was there to take offence, rushed to social media to tell the world about it and enjoyed every minute of her fame. How much she'll enjoy the investigation of her race-based charity by the Charities Commission remains to be seen.

This is what makes Great Britain interesting and I think I've watched every major event in my lifetime and thoroughly enjoyed each and every one of them. And I agree perhaps in 20 years William and Harry will find some common ground until then I don't believe that they will reconcile in any way or that William will trust him with anything that's personal or even public. I wish there was a way to keep their diaries a secret and only have the places they're going no so they can't be overshadowed by those in the US. Which FYI are not popular, not liked and in fact many actually hate them. Many people blame him for the Queens earlier death than necessary due to the stress they cost her and I don't think that will be forgotten or forgiven quickly.
