The biggest opposition to labour will be labour rebels, which could be a good thing or not. Concerns how the far-right supporting mass media interpret these things, how they push their nasty agenda and how Labour can find ways to contain what could become a very real threat to our (flawed...) democracy in the UK, without being anti-democratic themselves.

Phil has spent years at this point consistently smearing the honest and principled Labour grassroots as the "extreme left", as "nutters", as "working to get the Tories elected". He's consistently supported the right-wing takeover of the party. What makes you think he'll suddenly reverse course when they're elected?

But why would you believe that line or any other, from a Tory? Just because he says it that doesn't mean it's true. Even they would hesitate to blurt out their biggest rival for 2nd place in an election leaflet. Wouldn't it be better to check with stop the tories?

We need to vote tactically to stop Farage getting anywhere near parliament. That is more critical than stopping any one Tory MP.
If a Tory is in the best place to stop him, then tactical voting sites need to swallow it and recommend them. If Farage gets a foothold then we will have far bigger issues in the future.

Yesterday I recommended that my sister follows a tactical voting site as she is in the new constituency that is being fought for the Tories by S Braverman (whom my sister refuses to vote for but doesn't want to spoil her ballot paper.
I went on line to get some links and sent her 2,
    1) "tactical.vote" : these are already suggesting Labour even though the projected support for both LibDems & Labour is almost equal.
    2) "Stop the Tories" is still not recommending a tactical vote. I have suggested my sister follows this.

Anti-Tory tactical voting advice sites shouldn't be saying anything at all in seats that are straight races between non-Tory parties.
    So that's the Green-Labour, Labour-Lib Dem, Labour-SNP, Lib Dem-SNP, Labour-Plaid seats.
However if they are going to give advice in those seats, it needs to be consistent, such as always endorsing the incumbent non-Tory. Even if that would annoy Greens in Bristol or Labour in much of Scotland.

Best for Britain was started with all the right intentions to promote tactical voting to try and reduce the impact of Brexit. (I was a follower of the Remainiacs Podcast who were quite involved in the launch.) It's been around for a good 5+ years I think, but in the downtime it seems to have diversified into more of a lobby group/think tank type form. It's a shame because they really were trying to get electoral reform for a while.
They also included a vote swap option for the people living in safe seats at one point, which was one of the reasons I voted Labour one time so that a Labour voter further down the country would vote Lib Dem in their constituency.

I’m unhappy BFB unnecessarily suggest tactically voting Labour locally to me here in Bristol Central in what is looking like a close contest versus my preferred Green party and where Tories have no chance. I agree with you and I much prefer the stopthetories approach of suggesting people vote as they prefer for constituencies such as ours. Labour are going to get a massive majority anyway, getting a Green MP here won’t negatively effect the big picture in any way.

I get updates from Stop the Tories vote. I'm one of the few people in the UK who will end up, almost certainly, with the same MP who represented a different party last time out, Christian Wakeford, a former Tory MP, who defected to Labour in 2022. He won the seat of Bury South in 2019 by around 500 votes. It would be interesting to konw how many of the seats, out of around 650, there's a genuine problem identifying which candidate is best placed to defeat the Tories. I'd bet a larger than average percentage of them will be in Scotland, where many contests are 4-way, making it harder to predict. The Tory vote there has fallen to around 16% in the polls, even lower than the rest of the UK, but it's not always obvious who to vote for to get rid of the Tories.

  • @Paul.Woodcraft

In my constituency, my experience is that Labour has done nothing, possibly because I'm rural, but other Lib Dems in towns have also said the same. Many fed-up Tories have said they would vote Lib Dem (a few Reform-'which I encouraged rather than Tory). The Lib Dems are working hard here and not in a neighbouring constituency where Labour are working solidly. Despite this, both tactical Websites are saying to vote Labour in my constituency; hopefully, this will be clearer before the election.

Phil, Excellent video. We're in Newton Abbot, and we are a neck ahead of Labour in what was a safe Tory seat. This matches your example. We couldn't understand BfB's recommendation for Labour in Lib Dem heartlands.
    Many many thanks.

BfB might, and here I base it on their name so not out of any evidence I am correct, be a "one nation" operation, so in Scotland it won't advocate for SNP because it runs on a platform of "scottish independence". So in an England or Welsh seat where the LD member is "I think the scottish people should get a say whether they leave" BfB is removing THEM from the list, not because "they aren't Labour" but because "that might lead to Scotland leaving the UK".

In the past Labour have been just as guilty of pushing against PR because they were part of the comfortable self interest of sharing power between them and the Tories. They did not want third parties coming in and constantly blocked it for years.

I live in a town which has always been a safe Tory seat for over a hundred years. There has been a boundary change however which is muddying the waters with regard to tactical voting. This town usually has LibDem as 2nd place for local council elections and sometime has Lib Dems winning seats. The town that used to be part of the same Parliamentary constituency had the same deal but with Labour so the anti-Tory vote was always split. The boundary change seems to put my town with another area where the LibDems also seem to do well or at least come second.
Best for Britain is saying to vote Labour which seems to be based on recent polling along but not taking into account previous voting trends.
Stopthetories is saying wait for more data which while frustrating, does seem like the best advice to give.
Will have to wait and see I guess.

I support tactical voters, however for me personally I play conscience voting over tactical voting. I’ve noticed my local Lib Dem party is using tactical voting as an advertising campaign which tbh bugs me a bit 😂
Edit: also Phil congrats on being on the stopthetories website lol

Not just that, in ky constituency thwybare skewing the results in Lid Dem favour. Ipsos MRP poll says 33% labour 33% lib dem 24% conservative today. They are calling it for Lib dems. Stopthetories.vite alao posted on twitter that Labour were pulling resources from my area but this is a provable lie. We literally had a front bench MP (stella creasy) here to canvass with us on sunday along with members from Brussels and all surrounding areas. I'm in Wimbledon.

    My family are labour voters.
My parents recently moved to a rural Tory seat where Labour are a distant 3rd behind Tories and Lib Dem’s.
They are voting Lib Dem tactically for the first time because they want the Tories gone.
