For years, the US has been very dominant in the air with it’s battle proven fighters like F-15, F-16 and F-18 along with the king of the skies, and for a long time, the only 5th generation fighter in service, the F-22.
There simply wasn’t a serious answer to the US 5th generation of fighter jets from any other competitor on the market up until recent years.
Now, after the troublesome development of the F-35 fighter, US is looking to move above and beyond the competition, and by that I mean, completely new generation of fighters.
Meet the Next generation air dominance fighter, the jet fighter of the future!
The U.S. became the first country to introduce an operational 5th-generation fighter when it did so with the Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor in 2005.
There was one thing that truly set the fifth generation of fighter jets apart from the fourth generation - stealth.
That is why stealth capabilities are central to the design philosophy of the F-22 Raptor. These aircraft prioritised stealth from day one rather than seeking ways to reduce radar signature once all aerodynamic and engineering development had been done.
The result was a multirole fighter that would be able to do hit and run missions behind enemy lines and with either no or minimal losses complete it’s mission goals striking critical enemy targets in either air or on the ground. These fighter jets also included active electronic scanning array radars and engines that are powerful enough to cruise above the speed of sound without the need for afterburners.
A downside of firth-generation aircraft, however, is that, although they’re able to carry weapons and fuel externally should the need arise, that doing that instantly makes them less stealthy. And without full-on stealth capabilities, these aircraft could literally be considered more sleek-looking versions of fourth generation jets. And that’s a major let-down.
As already stated, a sixth generation or class of fighter jets was inevitable,
There is an understanding that aerial combat of the future will have less of an emphasis on one-on-one dogfights or even brute aerial superiority.
Rather, the focus and role of the new jet would be a part of an integrated system of manned and unmanned aircraft, ground troops, satellites or AWACS aircraft depending on the nature of the task at hand.
The idea behind the integration of manned and unmanned aircraft is that there would be only one pilot operating 2 or more aircraft at a time. UAV would not be controlled from the ground and the AI would be able to perform basic tasks commanded by the pilot, while the pilot would be able to focus on mission priority objectives with drones either providing recon, support or drawing enemy resources and fire letting the pilot slip unnoticed or at least face smaller and softer threat while performing its mission.
One of these drones could be XQ-58 Valkyrie or the Loyal Wingman, that we previously covered on the channel.
Integral to this digital sophistication will be the use of virtual cockpits. With these, pilots will view their control panels via helmet-mounted displays or HMDs, which will afford a pilot 360-degree vision with AI-enhanced battlefield awareness. Technology already being implemented in F-35.
They might also implement some other technology currently in development, like the airborne high energy beam weapons, or simply said lasers. And no, this is not a joke or some sci-fi because the airborne laser platforms have been in development ever since the Cold war with the best examples being Soviet Beriev A-60 and US Boeing YAL-1. More on them in some of the future videos.
Implementation of these weapons could be either for the protection of the aircraft, or even for tactical purposes like blinding the enemy sensors, satellites and other.
Apart from all those, the multirole 6th gen aircraft will still have to tick all the boxes defined by the previous generation, like the stealth capability, supersonic speed without afterburners and the ability to strike multiple targets at a time.
So what actually will be the 6th generation jet?

Lot of this tech is reverse engineered from Roswell and incorporates an evolution of earth based jet propulsion which is inferior compared to that produced from Zeta Reticuli. The F-117 design is similar that the craft at Roswell, according to the daughter of an officer in charge of the R&D who kept a cryptic journal for her to later read. You can see the R&D come to fruition in the Naval Patents posted under Salvator Pais. In contrast the iconic Flying Saucer UFO is the Huanebu, which is the reverse engineering of Vimana’s from the Bharat Civilization (8,000BCE-2,000BCE) . The Bell shape on top of every Hindu Temple represents a Vimana. The SS E-IV (Entwicklungsstelle 4), which was an R&D Unit to the SS’s Occult “Order of the Black Sun”, was tasked in researching alternative sources of energy to allow for the Reich to achieve Energy Independence. This research was done in conjunction with the Thule Society who were in search of the Aryan Origins, being the Gods of Indo-European ‘myth’, leading them into India and Tibet where they obtained the knowledge to produce the iconic ‘Flying Saucer’.

Another important factor of 4G fighters and the reason they added fly by wire is relaxed stability.
This give the aircraft incredible ability but make it technically unflyable.
They require 1000s of input corrections every second just to fly the plate straight and level.
    Enter flu by wire.
It maintains a mathematical model of the aircraft in the computer and only the computer has access to the flight controls.
1000s of times a second it uses onboard sensors to update the state of the model.
    Now you add the pilot.
They input what they want the aircraft to do, say, roll
Now, 1000s of times a second time computer takes the pilots inputs, subtracts from them the current balancing inputs calculated from the model and sensors and send _that_ too the control surfaces.
Now the plane rolls and to the pilot it's a traditional natural stability aircraft.

    • @myusername3689
      @myusername3689 2 роки тому +19

The material science is a bit…… off….. tho. Mach 3 makes the aircraft really hot and s ducts probably are not very practical for that kind of speed since it massively adds drag which would require much more powerful engines. Not to mention RAM coatings would probably be obliterated by the air friction. But who knows, maybe that kind of engine and material science is actually possible but classified.

      @SoloRenegade 2 роки тому +18

fighter jets have been slowing down. With missiles, drones, and smart weapons, speed for the fighter plane is no longer critical. Speed of the weapon is still important though. F-35, F-18 and others don't even go Mach 2, and weren't designed to, nor required to.

Patrolling for missiles and drones keeping them off troops, AWACS, helicopters and the next gen A-10. The 22, 35, and next gen fighters is the military not realizing that the battle field has changed. There for a waste in funds. Though force vector have use in a defense aircraft. Reduction in fuel burn while still have the ability to adjust to threats quickly.

    6th gen imo should have
    1. AI/ML to integrate and condense information for the pilot
    2. Integration of sensors, and the ability to network with any military asset. For example, the targeting information from the jet is able to be communicated to another jet, or warships/ground systems etc. This can allow the fighters to target and destroy using weapons from other sources. Interestignly, this is something the US is already working on with JADC2. Recently an F35 was able to send
    3. High speed. super cruise should be between mach 1.8-2.0. Afterburner should reach mach 2.5 minimum
    4. Longer range. Especially important for naval variant, because countries like China are making missiles to deny carriers from operating near their coast. Longer range jets allow carriers to be sationed farther away and still project force, or do much deeper strikes
    5. Stealth. (obvious) Removal of tail seems to be the meta for 6th gen, significantly improves stealth and less drag.
    6. Integration with drones. Drones would be a game changer, because they can allow the fighter to turn radars off and remain very well hidden; while drones can scout ahead to gain information and send it back to the fighter. The drones do the risky tasks that would be to much of a risk for manned fighters to do. Losing a drone is no where near as bad as losing an entire jet along with a very well trained pilot.
    7. Enhanced ECM. For the US, doing SEAD/DEAD operations is very important, especially after Desert Storm. ECM and other measures to degrade enemy radars, and missiles greatly enhance SEAD capabilities.
Overall, the US is well positioned for 6th gen. The US already has very advanced engines under development (AETP) they've already built prototypes for. The new engines are stated to have around 15% more thrust, 25% better fuel efficiency, and 50% better thermal management compared to the F135, which is the most powerful jet engine right now. With these stats, 6th gen engines should be pushing around 210kn of thrust which is insane. The better thermal management, and power also makes laser weapons, and more powerful radars possible as well; keep in mind F-XX will most likely have 2 of these engines installed. Infact these engines are poised to be placed in F-35's by 2027.
Advance engines are going to be required for 6th gen, China is behind in engine technology; only just now capable of designing engines comparable to the F22 raptor, whose engines represent US technology from the late 80s and early 90s. Meanwhile Russia has budgeting problems. Europe has the money, and the know how to make 6th gen engines as well. Rolls Royce knows what they are doing. Japan also started to investigate engine technology early on as well.

As someone who has no insider knowledge right now, my prediction is that we will see more of the YF-23 design someday. At the time, the USAF was mad at Northrop for blowing the budget on the B-2 program, so at least partially due to that, the YF-23 narrowly lost that bid. I think a slightly larger, 2-seated version of that with completely modernized engines and avionics seems really compelling for a 2030's fighter jet. The way air combat has changed in recent years has really gone right according to plan for the YF-23 even compared to the F-22. The game is less about turn-fighting and more about how quickly, quietly, and effectively you can get in and get back out.
The F-35 claims to embrace that same ethos, but it is not nearly as stealthy as the F-22 (let alone the YF-23 which was rumored to be slightly stealthier), it can't carry more than a few hundred miles of fuel, and its single engine is overburdened with how chunky it got. Both the F-22 and YF-23 still have better kinematics than the F-35 despite their superior stealth and range.

The YF-23 represented more risk since it had several problems in DEMVAL.
      * They cracked several wind screens according to test pilot Paul Metz.
      * They were not able to reach Mach 2 due to intake geometry and boundary layer control.

JSF are actually more stealthy than the Raptor from frontal aspect, oblique, and rear since Lot 4. They use more CF structures, which are RF permeable/non-reflective. F-35A has longer mission radius than the Raptor on internal fuel. Same with F-35C.
In large force exercises, JSF regularly defeat F-22s and prevent them from attacking Blue Forces. This has been true since 2017. F-22 was cheated out of its AIRST, so it has no long range IR detection sensors as originally planned.

@@LRRPFco52 to be fair I had somehow not seen the reports of the JSF's stealth improving in the early 2010's. Its shaping is much sloppier than either ATF plane, but evidently the new structures/coatings that were added to the JSF make up for a lot of it.
Also, while their mission radius is stated as close to or exceeding the Raptors, the fact that the ferry range is still somewhat lower even on the F-35A makes me think there are different definitions of "mission radius" being used.

I think the next generation of aerial combat will not compose of a single aircraft, but a system composed of aircrafts specialised in various roles.
From small to large, the smallest units will be autonomous drones. They are small, cheap and exceptionally manoeuvrable (able to pull intense manoeuvres that no human can handle). They will act as a defence role, intercepting enemy aircraft and missiles, sacrificing themselves to protect larger allied aircrafts. Quite defenceless on their own, but quite formidable in swarms.
Specialised aircrafts, these includes interceptors, e-war aircrafts, hypersonic recons, and surface attack aircrafts. These can be manned or unmanned, each can relay command signals, they are responsible for offensive actions and are dependant on each other.
Central command aircraft, these are the moving command stations of the Air Force, they do the support role, away from the front line. It will coordinate the numerous drones and manned aircrafts. Although it does not pack offensive weaponry, it has a laser defence array and a powerful jamming device, which can seriously mess with any missiles that come in its way.

What none of these videos, nor the majority of people commenting on them seem to remember is there there are massive gaps in the information that we civilians know about the aircraft in question. The real capabilities of the 5th Gen aircraft will not be known until they are all either in museums, or sold off to lesser allies.
