I had a playthrough that unfortunately I never got to finish due to my computer crashing and my game getting eaten... but I had it in my head cannon that my guy and her had a thing before the incident with the mirror and his subsequent recruitment into the Wardens.
@B Lor in theory, Tamlen, Mahariel and Merrill are like childhood friends(that in the mentality of a clan sounds weird when said out loud but Merrill said in a few occasion that being the Keeper's apprentice and socially weird made her an outcast inside her own clan, Mahariel is basically the child of the Elf-version of Romeo and Juliet...Tamlen is just a guy who befriended Mahariel/made Mahariel came out of his/her shell, and Merrill and Mahariel kinda bonded over the love for Griffins...i think XD)
@@Katzykeens It's possible, i mean, Merrill claim that being keeper aprendice she self isolate and plus being shy as she is, she wouldnt have shown any signs of having a crush on the warden But in game (Origins) we barely know a thing about her and when the warden is leaving, the camera keeps focusing her face, it should mean something right?
Little King modded of course, she didn’t actually look like that. You’d barely know it was her until it was mentioned and you’d go back and say, ‘oh yeah!’ Her personality is so different as well
This was one of the first things that made me fall in love with Merrill's character. A lot is lost if you don't import a Mahariel Warden... imo, she was very clearly in love with a male Mahariel, and his loss affected her deeply. Merrill didn't turn to blood magic to restore the mirror and gain the secrets of her people, she did it because she'd lost both Tamlen and Mahariel to the thing, and wanted to understand why in the vain hope of getting them back. It's such a sad story, made worse because she really won't ever see him again.
Bacon Tree really? can import mahariel warden? I didn't know have a backstory to it, but some think she's lesbian isn't it? I thougth she was quite ocd abt the magic
Ilkar Seregon No, she's not a lesbian. In DA2, all the romance options except Sebastian were made bisexual so that they could be romanced by a male or female Hawke. That means Merrill is pretty much bisexual, although I believe Gaider also admitted that some of this was because of time constraints. It's entirely possible that if DA2 had the proper time to develop (if only), Merrill would have been some other identity. Anyway, yeah, if you import a Mahariel warden she talks about him/her quite a bit, and a lot of it suggests she had feelings for Mahariel beyond just simple friendship. (She also mentions Tamlen.) This sort of makes sense to me, because in DA:Origins, it's Merrill who seems the most devastated to see you go with Duncan, even though she treated you kind of coldly. (But in DA2, we know she's just generally bad at interacting with people, so it's possible she was simply too shy to ever tell Mahariel how she actually felt.) In any case, it makes for an interesting DA2 playthrough. The only other origin I noticed to have the same impact was a mage warden (especially a human mage warden), since that makes Hawke and the Warden cousins.
It makes Mahariel seem like a jerk. I mean, that's his family, and he just wandered off without even seeing the once? IMO, a Mahariel Warden is also a little bit responsible for what happened to their clan. Uh, and sorry for the 3 months late reply. I just really wanted to rant.
+Inic I got the impression Mahariel moved on (like the other warden origins), and going back to them was a bit too painful to process. Instead, s/he focused on warden duties instead, and doing whatever s/he is doing after DA:O and before DA:I. However... I do wonder if it's possible Mahariel really did show up near Merrill's house in DA2 when Merrill claimed to spot him/her for a moment. I like to imagine s/he was checking up on Merrill, maybe, while in town.
Darkwolf523 At the end of Dragon Age 2 s/he was missing, but before that there was every reason to believe s/he was alive and active in Thedas. Dragon Age 2 spanned 9 years if I'm not mistaken, that was 9 years that Mahariel had the chance to contact their clan. I'd also point out that having a clan stay still for that long must have had people talking s I find it really hard to believe Mahariel had no idea they were there. Bacon Tree That all depends on how you role-played your Mahariel though, and no matter how many painful memories it might stir up Mahariel (depending on how you role-played) still has a responsibility to their family. They were probably like, WTF happened to you Merrill?? Where'd you get that accent and why are you so ditzy!? *runs away never to be seen again*
It's almost sad that what is probably the ONE and ONLY conversation that Anders and Merrill have is about Mahariel. Guess Anders' fondness for his old boss outweighs his dislike of Merrill, if only for a few moments.
Merril is quite compassionate even to those that despises her like Anders and Fenris furthermore she was willing to help them when they are in need despite their hostility.
Hearing the Keeper say the last name of the Dalish elf made me so happy that they actually acknowledge the characters with names, not like the Hero of Fereldan or so on
@@VenomQuill I'd have a hard time looking it up but it's one of the chapter 1 or 2 conversations when you can ask the mom about why your family's not rich nobles. She mentions how her cousin had 4 kids, all of whom were mages and that the hero of fereldon was one of them.

They should have kept most of Merrill's stuff in. This humanises her so much. I feel so bad for her, and her motives are much more clear to me now that I've seen this. They really didn't do a good job portraying her in the final game.

03:06 "I always knew you were fond of Mahariel" Ha, I knew it! There had to be a reason why the camera focused so much on Merril when the Warden was leaving the clan.

My Mahariel is a guy and he's very inlove with Morrigan , so it makes sense he's missing he went with Morrigan through the Eluvian , but he loved his clan and makes me sad to think that he never went to see them again ☹️
ok. This simply crushes my heart. Imagine if we could have played the Keeper's Second in Dragon Age Original, And had a small triangle drama between Tamlen, Mahariel and Merrill. For example, have Tamlen become jealous if you mention Merrill two or three times in one conversation with him, where you then have to mention who you like the best of them OR being rude enough to Tamlen by giving him a little mischievous smile to keep it a secret.
I always found the pronunciation they used for Mahariel bizarre and inconsistent. Yes, the Welsh accent is strong for some elves, but still...I'd thought of the name being said as "Ma-HA-ri-el", not "Ma-HAIR-i-el".
After hearing the pronunciation in this video I just got this headcanon that basically everyone in the clan pronounces the name differently and that even Mahariel doesn't quite figure out how to pronounce it. Or just keeps changing it.
When Merrill says that she saw mahriel in the market I believe her, I like to think he was keeping an eye on her protecting her from the shadows, maybe the next dragon age game we will get mahariel x Merrill storyline
My warden went to Antiva, I really believe that Merril saw her in the market, because of her husband Zevran. It's my Headcannon and I am sticking with it. I think Mahariel felt like she does not belong in the clan anymore. I think that (whatever choices you made) the warden's life is totally different now. It would be really painful to go back home and then leave feeling once more uncertainty of never seeing it again. Some farewells become goodbye sometimes.
Wow, the mod for merrill in dao was very beautiful: and this is why the dalish origin will always be one of my favourite backstories. So much missing content. What I don’t get is why Mahariel never returned to the clan. It’s not like any of that in the other origin backstories. They all return in some way I think.
My Mahariel told Anora he’d go back to the clan after the blight.. Does dialogue change if he says that, or did he never make it back to the clan before the blasted wardens made him warden commander and gave more shit to solve?
It's possible he didn't quite know how to track them. I mean, the clan moved to Kirkwall by the time of DA2's first act, which was a year after the blight reached Lothering (which was somewhere in the middle of Origins). Maybe Mahariel didn't manage to find them before he was called to Amaranthine to be Warden Commander and he found that this was the more pressing issue?
I heard this dialogue during the game all of it maybe I had a mod instlled I dn't rmemeber but I remember hearing it. It is possible I had a mod installed I had one restoring some of Morrigan's and Leliana's fight over the warden.
Thanks for this ive beaten a 3 but have not transfered a save anywhere i even played them out of order. This is what merrill would say about my hero thanks
I really want to know what happened to the Warden. I invested so much in my Dalish, City Elf, and Elven Mage Wardens. I’d like to see Merril reunite with Mahariel.
I assume u mean the armor at 02:13? I think its from the Improved atmosphere mod, just installed it and that armor is the starter equipment for Dalish origin
Came here to see all the references to the Dalish origin, planned to import my Dalish warden to DA:2, however, it is not on sale(as much as i like the story and characters, the wave mechanic for the fights really put it off for me) and for some reason the no-steam torrent doesn't work. So thank you.
Apparently, the default choice in DA:I is that the Grey Warden is Mahariel who died killing the Archdemon and the Champion of Kirkwall is a Mage who sided with the Circle of Magi. The basis is that the whole story revolves around the Eluvian Mirrors so there is a possibility that Merril was the default romance in DA2. So far it is the default choice but whether it is the canon choice is yet to be disclosed.
With how much this series goes back to origins and the warden, it really tells me they should’ve just continued their story in the manner of mass effect. Words cannot describe how irritating it is meeting characters from origins, and just listen to them reminisce about the warden, instead of actually letting me continue those relationships.
Now this is why I love Bioware and hate EA. So much is there missing, hidden dialogue that's intertwined and fleshed out that'll never make it into the actual games.
that's bioware's canon storyline; don't get me wrong I love my Dalish rouge but the self-sacrificial type she was not; and my Hawke? well I choose the middle option more then not so it's mor then likel 2 pissed off rouges against the world which oddly I usually have 2 rouges in my party regaurdless...
I assume u mean the armor at 02:13? I think its from the Improved atmosphere mod, just installed it and that armor is the starter equipment for Dalish origin
wasnt the clan right outside of denerim once the dalish warden beat the archdemon (and lived)? I refuse to believe they didnt at least say hi afterwards TT ^ TT
Oh stop with your pity party. "Well I guess none of the new DA games will be as good as Origins". Look Origins is a great game, but the only reason you don't like Inquisition is because you're purposely trying to hold it at your standards of Origins. Usually nothing is as good as the first, but that doesn't make it bad. Inquisition is a very good game and if you can't see that because you're still too caught up in Origins, I feel sorry for you because you're missing out. The story build up for DA4 in inquisition is quite a beautiful thing and honestly I think the 4th game perhaps will live up to Origins because it seems like a fantastic story that will answer a lot of questions about the evanuris and the black city and the fade.
Origins has less filler content, Inquisition's combat is less boring, they really need to take the best of both games and make that into DA4. Still like them both, but man I wish there a DA game that I could REALLY get into.
They were all good games. I played Da2 first so I loved it for what it is, instead of focusing on what it isn't like many other players. As for Inquisition, it's my least favorite but not because of the comparison to the other games. Great game, but I couldn't get into the story. The characters seemed too distant. Character creation was annoying and I didn't like the female voice actors. But we all have our complaints. It's not a bad game and some of the features are better than the older games, it's just not my favorite.
1:25 "The eluvian is poison. It killed Tamlen. It stole Mahariel." Correction: The mirror poisoned Tamlen and Mahariel, who subsequently had to _put her best friend down_ almost a year after the fact. Talk about kicking cold ashes. People wonder why it's so hard for me to like Merrill... Wonder what Warden Mahariel would say/do if he/she found out about Merrill's pet project.
But Merrill made sure that if anything bad happens it'll happen to her? She knew she risked possession and she took precautions, bringing Hawke along, so she wouldn't be a rampaging abomination - she becomes posessed, she needs to be killed. My Mahariel would appreciate the fact that if Merrill wanted so desperately to purify the mirror (in which she suceeded on her own without any problem, using blood magic and not hurting anyone in the process) she risked only herself. The mirror was completely safe after she cleansed it.
let's remember that Merrill would have died pretty much alone and nobody of her clan would have suffered(aside Tamlen and Mahariel) if Marethari didn't decide to be possessed. We know for a fact that Mahariel was Merrill's only friend in the clan(both passionate with griffins)(while Tamlen was more of a friend of a friend) meaning that the rest of the clan either hated or disliked Merrill enough to prefer anyone else to her...and Marethari which is the leader of the clan, decided to give up her life for Merrill...basically giving up on her responsibilities as a leader of a clan for someone who wasn't very loved like Merrill...noble and kind gesture but Marethari's actions doomed the clan
@@derokdeathaxe6984 Marethari was like a mother to Merrill. The rational choice may have been to let her die alone, but she didn't do that. She knew her daughter would die, and she decided to die instead. Unfortunately, it doomed the Clan, and I doubt that was something that Marethari wanted, but you can't think she would just allow Merrill to kill herself gruesomely. Like you said, Merrill was alone and may have died alone. Do I agree with it? No. I don't think she should have done it. I think that if anyone should have gone through with it (which no one should have gone through with it at all), it should have been Merrill. Her idea, her plan, her mistakes, her consequences. Unfortunately, no one lives in a bubble.
@@Hjalmar_an_Craite Why did I not notice this existed? I'm sorry for replying to a 2-year-old comment, but someone replied to my 2-year-old one so I may as well lol. Even Mage!Hawke claims that they've never heard of blood magic "cleansing" anything. Besides, that was a very traumatizing experience that has not only shortened Mahariel's lifespan (they will live a shorter life than other Wardens due to being infected), but in fighting Tamlen had to relive the trauma of that mirror. Thus, seeing that mirror AGAIN would bring up the trauma _again_ of both the mirror and killing Tamlen. It's not just about intention, by that point it's reopening old wounds and all but inducing PTSD flashbacks were any to exist. Which, in the world they live in where understanding of mental health much less mental health care is nonexistent, is entirely plausible.
Why is it just NOW that the Dalish Elf Origin is interesting. The prologue ain’t much, you find the mirror with Tamlen, you get screwed over, Duncan intervenes and saves you, and then you go on your journey. It’s a short prologue with characters that were quickly established. Kinda forgettable tbh. But now it’s all intertwined. There’s more than one mirror apparently, Merrill tried to either restore/destroy one of them. It’s odd how the least liked origin in the game became one of the most interesting.

How do you make these missing dialogues appear?
In the banter, that was between Merrill and Anders then Sebastian?
Oh yeah i nevr played the Dalish Origin. Gonna try in the next playthrough
Came here to see all the references to the Dalish origin, planned to import my Dalish warden to DA:2, however, it is not on sale(as much as i like the story and characters, the wave mechanic for the fights really put it off for me) and for some reason the no-steam torrent doesn't work.
So thank you.
Oh my someone should tell sis that she died fighting the arch demon (at least in my play through)
I'm replaying origin as both male and female mahariel
No it works better being like this
any1 else think that merrill had a thing for mahariel
that was good
It's the Dalish Hunter, but the it's the same VA as Sebastian
Is there a mod to reinstate her lost dialogue?
*cries* NOOO!!!!!!!!TAMLEN!!MAKER NO!!NOT TAM
Can you imagine Mahariel finding out she single handedly got their whole family killed
Now this is why I love Bioware and hate EA. So much is there missing, hidden dialogue that's intertwined and fleshed out that'll never make it into the actual games.
Bioware is just as at fault buddy
those are awesome lines. There was bad BIOWARE editor that needs a chastising.
Do they say all this (save for the last line) if mehariel survives?
Yes.
@@Egil29 wdym.
They're said he is dead even if he is alive? Just for stop her?
that's bioware's canon storyline; don't get me wrong I love my Dalish rouge but the self-sacrificial type she was not; and my Hawke? well I choose the middle option more then not so it's mor then likel 2 pissed off rouges against the world which oddly I usually have 2 rouges in my party regaurdless...
Well Mahariel was close to Merrill i think.
is that armor a mod?
I assume u mean the armor at 02:13? I think its from the Improved atmosphere mod, just installed it and that armor is the starter equipment for Dalish origin
But... Isn't Tamlen dead? The Warden killed his Ghoul during his campaign to end the Blight. There is nothing to recover.
His clan dont know about it. Just Mahariel.
Oh yeah, how come Anders and Merrill never had a single dialogue about the warden? I wonder now if Isabela ever had one with her.
imagine being a Mahariel and killing off Zatrian's dalish clan to side with werewolves...
wasnt the clan right outside of denerim once the dalish warden beat the archdemon (and lived)? I refuse to believe they didnt at least say hi afterwards TT ^ TT
They were in the Free Marches long before the Blight was defeated. They sent a representative if you give the Dalish land but that's it.
@@ebonslayer3321it is actually more confusing than that; half of tribe supposedly goes with rep to live there while rest stay with keeper
I'm at that point where I would rather play origins rather than inquisition. I'm just disappointed with it.
+LadyDominion
Let's not forget solas, and hid role in DA4
@@ladydominion8632 It's their personal opinion, and they didn't say they hated it, they were just disappointed. Don't be an asshole.
1:25 "The eluvian is poison. It killed Tamlen. It stole Mahariel."
Correction: The mirror poisoned Tamlen and Mahariel, who subsequently had to _put her best friend down_ almost a year after the fact.
"Least liked origin"? Where did you get that from? My friends and I loved it, it's my second favorite origin (HN being the first). I thought the least liked/played origin is Dwarf Commoner?
@@rosaliejonathan6539 agreed. I played origin numerous times and finish all race origin up to the witch hunt except for the dwarf. They just got past the prologue
Ridiculous that EA made his canon name Mahariel, it's bs.
Senex Dei
Everyone has a Canon non-optional last name in Origins. Only for the Dalish Warden do you receive a "special nickname".
Why are you angry about this?
The Dalish Warden has no canon first name. The last name has always been Mahariel, but the first is player choice.
Russian Representative Try playing Origins, his/her last name was always Mahariel
