- This video has been created to show how some simple things can make all the difference. 3 lawns, 3 properties, all on the same street. How can these 3 lawns be so different?
It's as simple as saying YOU.
I can't say it any more simpler than this. It's all about what You do, and what you put into it.
You will get so much more out of it when you put more into it.

Well said, Shaun. A short walk through my neighborhood will reveal lawns in much worse shape. I'm the only one who mows two to three times a week during the summer. Some mow once a month, while others mow once a week. Some don't water the lawn, others water in the evening.
I have the lawn treatment routine down to no more than 45 minutes, which includes strimming when and where needed, mowing, mixing and applying the seaweed extract and urea, setting the irrigation timer for ten minutes to water in the products, and cleaning and storing the tools. I try to start by 1000, after the morning dew is gone, so the grass has the rest of the day to recover.

Thanks for advice. Most my customers garden are done every 2 weeks. I do couple of garden weekly. I wish I had more weekly jobs. I guess it boils down to money. Thanks
Yeah I used to do maintenance on lawns and same issues.. Plus they want you to scalp it as short as possible

Hey I am back with another question from the master, I have laid some turf today. Do I need to use a plank of wood to squish it down a bit by walking on it? or let it settle naturally
you don't usually need wood but a light pressing in is ok. I usually firm it in by hand when laying each roll
Hi Shaun, the moral of this tale is if you have the time then put the effort in and the lawn will reward you if you haven’t got the time then just do the best you can and try to keep it tidy

Hi Shaun new subscriber here loving your videos and content and has got me inspired to look after my lawn now..i have a question..2 weeks ago i scarified and aeriated the lawn followed by miracle gro 4 in 1 treatment there was a lot of moss and thatch..how often can i scarify and when can i overseed to fix the bare patches?

Hi Ally, great work there! If you hadn't put down the 4 in 1 you could have seeded right away. You'll need to wait a good 6 to 8 weeks for seeding but with it hitting summer the chances are it'll come through lovely but die in the heat.. With lots of water through summer you may be fine.. Other than that autumn for seeding.. I'd look to scarify and aerate yearly.. You can alos scarify twice a year if desired, spring and autumn.. Thanks for subscribing 😊😊
My front lawn is 4,500 square feet. If I empty the grass box more than 2 times I know I left it tool long between cuts. 4500 square feet, for the uninitiated (those born a long time after me) 420 square metres

Had absolute mental rain here for a full day and seeded the day before.. (typical) theres a lot of soil.

O am getting lots of weeds coming through i have been digging them out but more and more are coming in to the lawn any advice
Hi I'd wait now and let the seeds do their thing.. Give it a month then pull some.. Or wait 2 to 3 months and put a weedkiller on

The best lawns i see are owned by retired people. They have the time to do them little things that lake the difference

Evening Shaun....this time last year my lawn was on its last legs. Plenty of rain probably helped this year but I needed to up my game. Step 1...aerate manually using your recommended aerator (great bit of kit), dug out as many weed grasses as I could but needed to fill the holes after. Scalp the lawn. Verticut. Granular feed. Overseed followed by application of wetting agent and then top dress with Jack's Magic using my Landzie compost spreader (another great bit of kit). Final step, spray application of Maxicrop liquid seaweed fertiliser. Lots of watering and the lawn has come alive. Had to cut it today even though not all seeds have fully grown but the lawn looks epic (epic for me that is)....your invaluable advice has brought me to this point mate....thank you!

Worth noting I have severe arthritis in my knees/hips so this has not been easy but just a bit at a time with plenty of breathers (and cold beers) I got there....if I can do it anyone can!

Why would a guy who scarifies and feeds his lawn have somebody else cut it?
I’ve just scarified 2 of my lawns. Loads of thatch came out- fabulously satisfying job. Just wondering though, does mulch mowing increase thatch?
If you can mulch effectively it shouldn't but to be safe I would mulch all the time... Basically mulching very very small cuts of grass.. Just the tips so it breaks done really fast.. Longer grass won't break down as fast and start to create issues

Do you recommend cutting with grass box off to mulch the cuttings? if so how often and when? new lawn ok?
I don't usually mulch. Ideally you want a mulching mower but technically you could mulch with a normal mower if you cut every day and took off the smallest cuts but for me once every couple of weeks. Ish would be fine
@@LawnRight thanks for replying, my ryobi 36v battery mower came with a mulching plug that blocks the collecting box off, which got me thinking of when i should use it😶
Rye Gold Turf & Stadium Turf... What's the difference? I have just ordered some Rye Gold turf on DIY-Lawns (Otley). I am not sure if I should of got stadium as I have children! Will I regret this...

Thanks for the new video LawnRight! I agree with you, proper turf management practices make a huge difference. That first lawn you showed us in the backyard is nitrogen deficient if the dog pee stains are that visible. A foliar application of HCU (humic coated urea) will neutralize those pee spots and darken up the rest of the lawn so the stains aren't as noticeable.

I used to mow my lawn once a week, 2 hours. Depending on weather, I now mow 2/3 times a week, 20 mins. It's quicker, easier and my lawns like a billiard table already. Thanks for your posts and advice, cheers Shaun.😊

Ive got a 8mx5m section between patios im wanting to lay turf. I need to fill with topsoil, would you fill up to the level of patio and then turf? Or would you leave below the level and turf? Im wanting it to be as good as possible. Only in Scunny if you fancy popping to do it 😂
Aghh if I had time.. I'd have the turf laid on soil just slightly proud of the patio

Great tips Shaun - I have a question, I’ve just applied some granular spring summer fertiliser and watered for 30 mins each day for the past 2 days since applying - I normally cut once a week and was planning on cutting this weekend which would of been 7 days since applying the fertiliser - is that okay to do or should I wait longer for the fertiliser to do its thing? Also - is late May/early June too late for a spring scarify? I should have done it earlier but only managed to get a Scarifier recently and was wondering if I’ve missed the boat and best waiting to do a scarify in the autumn.
Hi both of those are fine 😊😊 plenty of watering for a month after scarifying though to speed up recovery

Is it okay to scarify and overseed in the summer? It's getting to summer now and its gonna take me weeks to get my garden ready to sort the grass out. Mostly the edges of the garden with lots of branches, twigs, weeds and rocks.
Hi yes and no.. Yes for speed but no due to stress and watering requirements... If could faultlessly water without fail up to 6 times a day for a few week then 3 to 4 times a week through summer you can make it
@@LawnRight okay. I think I'll do my front lawn this week and do my back lawn in autumn instead. There's probably more work to do on the back lawn than I realised so I'll wait until autumn for that.
Hi Shaun, scarified my lawn 3 weeks ago after using 4 in 1 complete 3 weeks earlier. Seeded and covered in peat. Weeds returning and seeds slow to grow. Is it ok to walk on new grass to remove weeds manually or should I use weedkiller spray with lawn feed. Thx
Hi John so usually if you've applied a weedkiller (in the 4 in 1) you usually shouldn't seed for a couple of months minimum. So that product will likely affect new seeds from germinating.. Basically seeds and weedkiller don't mix and should leave a good 6 to 8 weeks in between either.. It's a tricky one.. On on hand the seeds may be done due to the 4 in 1, and the weeds should start dying now with that product.. So I'd suggest wait and see whta happens in the next 2 weeks

Hi Shaun, great video again. I have now scarified my lawn, seeded parts and is now starting to look great. My machine can scarifying as well as rake with a change of the cutter. Late in the year would you suggest I scarify again or use the rake? I can still see some thatch in places. Thanks again for great info. Cheers.
Hi probably the rake.. You can use it a few times a year to keep thatch at a decent level with minimal disruption

It's still warm in between the rain (sometimes lol).. Could be a lot of thatch, or desperate for a feed on it
