The intact history of the barn is fascinating. I grew up housing my horses in a post and beam barn built in about 1790 and the old features, like floors, doors, hayloft and haychutes , made it so meaningful. Congratulations on this property!
The love of horses includes the possibility of creating an equestrian home. So many people dream of having so much land, but it isn’t always attainable. Thank you for bringing us along on your journey. I will enjoy seeing you both work together in making this property your dream home.

In 1858 my family's great, greats had already immigrated to the USA from Ireland and Germany in time to fight in the civil war between North and south. Your heirlooms will add a unique touch to the interior design with careful placement. I have a "quilt" made of silk ties on my mother's side, made after the death of my g-g grandfather. They were pioneer farmers living in Michigan and raised huge families with 16-23 children...I kid you not! This property has a rich family history that is passing away. It is going to be such fun to watch you two modernize this home. I like the idea of placing at least one heirloom in a garden setting for show. I am quite amused at the idea of a spa set into the potato storage cellar. My ancestors were Irish potato farmers. LOL!
What a sumptuous feast your new home is. Not only is the land spacious with fields of green lined with mature trees, there's a large, charming vintage home, plus a massive, museum-like antique barn...with a nesting owl!. If renovations don't chase him off, that owl could keep your barn mouse free!
With forty acres and the chance of wolves, it is quite natural to consider a pair of large dogs to stay with the horses. I'm sure there are local dog trainers in the Netherlands nearby to consult. 🐾
Please get a pair. If they don't have to "work" constantly they might get bored. If you get the correct type they will look after your inside dogs as well when they are outside with you.
WOW, what a GEM!!!! Having that public access to the forest right off your property for riding is amazing. The buildings have great bones and you are going to do wonderful things with them -- this is going to be so interesting to watch and you're never going to want to or need to leave there. Congratulations on such a great find. :)
As an equestrian who is also an architect, I cannot wait to see what you do with this property. So much potential! I love that you want to keep so much of the history. The roof of the barn looks similar to the roof of my house in Norfolk UK which has had Dutch influence in the past, I'd never come across it before so maybe it came from the Netherlands. The reeds are a nightmare as they're so messy when having to make repairs. I've been told many times to replace the whole roof!
Well guys, you've got your work cut out for you - work that will keep you busy the rest of your lives. It is an absolutely beautiful property and home - clearly worth your waiting for. Welcome to your Edin. I look forward to traveling with your through your development of this grand propery!
I would like to see a glass wall in your tack room with all the old tack on the wooden hooks and exposed wall. Amazing lighting, it would look so cool, love the way your trying to preserve the buildings
It would be really nice to NAME the Estate when you are done, maybe like a combination of your names or something unique to the both of you, cant wait to see more longer videos of the transformation ❤❤❤
👨🏻🌾🌳👨🏼🌾Reminds me of an old German nursery rhyme, "the Farmer in the Dell." I always thought that a dell was a field where the farmer was working. Wikipedia says a dell is actually a stand of oak trees. I'm sure that back in the day, all barns were built with strong oak timbers, like that one, so maybe over time, barns/stables were eventually called dells. Anyway, I love that the stable is attached to the house. I don't know why all stables aren't attached to the home, except that hay used to be stored in a hay loft above the horses and there was always a concern about the hay catching fire from a kerosene lamp being knocked over or a cigarette being tossed, so maybe that's why barns were built away from the house, but nowadays i think they should all be attached, and have windows to see the horses from inside the home. Lots of places have a separate hay barn . Maybe convert the potato cellar into a koi/goldfish pond or maybe a fountain. The possibilities are infinite. The whole place has so many beautiful possibilities. Please take us along for all the details.💙🩵
Honestly you guys are the perfect people to own this estate. You appreciate and love the history and will do everything to keep things intact and do it justice.
Your new home/horse property is absolutely gorgeous and picture. Perfect. However what will really make it special is the two of you! You guys are a joy to watch and be on the journey with you. You should be so proud of yourselves! Keep up the good work guys. 🤩
As for wolves, fortunately we have them in the north of Portugal :)Thus, we are also faced with its coexistence with traditional herding practices, in which large cattle move alone to mountain pastures during the day. What works really well to prevent wolf attacks is the presence of one ore two individuals of large breed cattle dogs. They accompany the cattle during the day, discourage the wolves and protect the cattle if needed. In your case, they would also alert by barking, if there was any wolves on the surroundings. There are some old portuguese dog breeds for that purpose (as Castro Laboreiro Dog or Cão de Gado Transmontano), but i am sure there are many other breeds worldwide selected specifically for cattle protection. It is just an idea for you two :)
Here's an idea, the old tack room and the old stall w/ the brick flooring, maybe turn it into a little office and sitting area to relax in and use the beams that divide the stalls, hang up your company blankets or old saddles or etc. Just an idea, I believe whatever you do it will be great!- Blessings you two. J.
Can't wait to see all the construction of your new place! That's going to be so cool looking!!! Can't wait to see it all from fencing to decorating the house! Super cool! 😊
Wow this property couldn’t have been bought by better people. I’m not sure if it’s because I’m from the US, but it’s so refreshing to see people from my generation honoring the history of such a beautiful place. I’ve always had a thing for old historic stuff and it just makes me so happy to see a place like this be preserved whilst still being transitioned into something usable. I would also be super interested in renovation videos along this process! Super stoked for you two!
The English name for the owl you have in there is actually Barn owl! (kerk uil, literal translation is indeed church owl). They are gorgeous white/light brown coloured owls. These days their primary nesting places are in boxes like that in barns. I love that you're keeping it there, the owl will gratefully protect your feed from mice!
The hunter's chair is called a tree stand in the States. Farmers will typically run burros/donkeys with their livestock to protect them from predators. I would also recommend getting at least 2 legit farm dogs like Great Pyrenees. They are amazing farm dogs and will protect the minis. Congrats on your new home, what a great place!🎉
Oof, I would’ve fainted if I’d done a showing for that property. It’s got so much space for you to make everything just right for the horses, but already has the setup in the house for you to get settled quickly. I’m so excited for you two!!!
Gorgeous property Matt and Jesse! I applaud your ambition. My husband and I restored an 1899 farmhouse with a log barn and it was so worth the work. My best advice to you is to stay patient with each other.
A very large barn, which with renovations, alterations and your aesthetic sense, will welcome all your beloved furry friends, present and future. I'm sure that every aspect of their well-being will be carefully considered. The grounds are huge and surrounded by beautiful trees and woodland where you can go trail riding. What a delight! I agree with Jesse: no hunters! I'd like to thank you both for this nice visit and hope to be able to follow the progress of this great project ✨✨😍👍👏✨✨💗
We love any content you guys make. I also love how much you value the gorgeous property you have, and the history that comes with it. The fact that you want to keep as much original as you can, speaks volumes about your character. I think we all appreciate and admire your respect for other and for history. -Megan
That straw under the roof tiles is called 'strodokken': meant to keep the warmth in and also to strengthen the construction. I grew up in the Achterhoek as well, and as a kid my old neighbour taught me how to make them.
I just enjoy peeking in on this new chapter for you both. I started watching for love of horses. I kept watching because I just enjoyed your content. You are such amazing people, and I wish you happiness always! Thank you for sharing! ❤
I'm here for the renovation of your entire property - this is just incredible. I can't wait to see the showcase you make it with your great taste. Congratulations!!
This property seems perfect. Its going to be exciting to watch Matt add to the beauty of the gardens. Looking forward to seeing Macy and Penny running around. Remembering Jesse listening to the owls at the other home I'm happy theres an owl already living in the barn. Also hope there's still pheasants there for Matt. I'm looking forward to seeing all the horses in those beautiful fields.Thank you for sharing your lives.
In that potato hole i guess, you should totally do a fire pit. That would look amazing. I think with the trees and bushes a pool or hottub would be difficult to maintain clean. Maybe put something like that in a more open area.
Wow! You have both worked so hard and are reaping the rewards. What a magical property, I know you will be amazing stewards of this historic home. Its like you were made for each other. Congratulations! Love from the UK
Trails!! How lucky to have access to riding 'out.' So healthy for you and the horses. It lets them be more natural and instills joy and forwardness, boldness. Plus so good for their muscling. Long and stretchy. Starting youngsters +++. 👏👏
I cant wait for your next year(s) content. It will be almost tailor made for my interest with the horses and the restoration of the original buildings. I'm MOST excited about the barn! So often people nowadays either don't take the time to do a proper restoration or would rather have a barn that looked like the barn concept that you had done for the other property which I feel is almost criminal. These gems need to be preserved. Also, I would love to see the old tack either restored and used if possible. Old doesn't mean bad and, just like the tools, they should be used for it's original purpose if possible. OR you could make some very cool shadow boxes (frames) and use them as decorations throughout the barn. All the original tile would be really neat in the new tack room as accent pieces as well.
Wow! The shadow boxes are a great idea!! Old farm equipment & old horse tack are valuable antiques!! It would be great to see them sprinkled around the barn/stable areas to showcase these rare & unique items!!!! Well done, an imaginative idea worth pursuing! 😃!!!
@ady1gilb thanks. When I was a kid I was really into them along with decoupage. That would also be really cool decorations if they found old newspapers or magazines.
Beautiful!!! Well chosen. Might I suggest a couple Livestock Guardian dogs? They are amazing and will keep all the predators away. Plus they are gorgeous! Great Pyrenees, Sarplaninac, etc.❤
Matt that old wooden wheelbarrow took my breath away. I could see it as a centerpiece focal point in a garden or front lawn! Just cleaned up with minimal to no restoration.
Matt I know you love gardening have you ever thought of doing one of these. Floral art as a horse in your garden, I love to see that. just the head and neck .
There is a saying: stay in the area (home/garden) with as little changes as possible FOR A YEAR - so you get a feeling of how the seasons (winter, spring, summer, fall) looks like and works - how is the springwater after winter flowing, where does it go, what tree/bush/plant is planted because of shadow or the plants preferences, fruit/other purposes - is it wise to change this or that just because you can?? and so on... because people have been living there for a very long time I am sure they have made many wise descisions that you will only see after a year. Be patient, my friends...
A great idea! I know they're anxious to start everything & get it finished so they can sit back & just enjoy it all, but the lawn & gardens near the house can maybe wait a little longer so they can clearly see the flowers & shrubs clearly! Then they'll know what they want to keep or add!!!😊
You managed to find exactly what you needed to create your actual life dream! Wow, so special! How many people in the world achieve this? Thanks for letting us come along....very excited to see your plans start coming together!❤❤

Oh Matt & Jesse, your fans have followed you for years, yes it is mainly horse content, but we are so invested in you we love to follow all the changes to your life. Like we loved the renovation videos on your last house, so I am sure we are going to enjoy these renovations even more! I am so happy that you have found your dream forever home and I cannot wait to follow your journey here! Lots of love to you both ❤
In 1858 my family's great, greats had already immigrated to the USA from Ireland and Germany in time to fight in the civil war between North and south. LOL!
The Netherlands grow big and lush hedges. They’re everywhere in the videos. The barn is an old, old treasure. It’s got great bones!
What a sumptuous feast your new home is. Not only is the land spacious with fields of green lined with mature trees, there's a large, charming vintage home, plus a massive, museum-like antique barn...with a nesting owl!.
If renovations don't chase him off, that owl could keep your barn mouse free!
Please do not forget to share info about the horse you recently bought!
Just remembered, don’t put the outdoor too close to the trees. We did and the horses always heard noises and were extra vigilant and often spooked.
What an absolutely stunning property. A true dream. I am so happy for you guys to have found such hidden gem!
I'm so ready for a farm renovation serie! 🙌😍
Big beautiful livestock dogs will take care of any Wolf issues.
My Dutch Shepherd is so beautiful and protective ... and super intelligent. 🐾
Congratulations you two!! So nice that you young men can appreciate such a beautiful old property!! Best of everything ❤
WOW, what a GEM!!!! Having that public access to the forest right off your property for riding is amazing. The buildings have great bones and you are going to do wonderful things with them -- this is going to be so interesting to watch and you're never going to want to or need to leave there. Congratulations on such a great find. :)
So exciting what a dream property. Like a fairytale
You might consider setting up game cameras for streaming at strategic spots. I bet you get a lot of interesting visitors at night.
Zon en Luna
What a treasure! I love the barn and especially the owl box ❤ adorable
The barns are so incredibly clean. The property is pristine and must have been deeply loved.
It’s a going to be a big 12 months, but the rewards will be worth it. What a dream property.
What a beautiful property, even the barns would make a lovely rustic dwelling for someone. You've hit absolute gold this time, congratulations! ❤❤
The whole barn is so cool and the original features and oddities add so much to the overall vibe
This is a very special property. Congratulations
Access to the places to hack out makes this the ultimate dream.
I'M SO EXCITED FOR THIS NEXT HORSE CHAPTER!!!!! 💜 Thank you SO MUCH for bringing us along.
Love that you are preserving the history! Can "feel" the vibe from here. Longer video plz, it's a lot to take in!
That old wheelbarrow would make a great planter.
Not really because its wooden , i have one too and they just rot , but they can still use it .
@ of course you can you just line it with plastic before adding the soil
"It won't be happening any more...!..." -- I love that!
Congrats, you two! I'm so excited to see how it all goes. Mind telling me where in the Netherlands you bought your dream home?
The hunter's chair is called a tree stand in the States.
Farmers will typically run burros/donkeys with their livestock to protect them from predators. I would also recommend getting at least 2 legit farm dogs like Great Pyrenees. They are amazing farm dogs and will protect the minis.
Congrats on your new home, what a great place!🎉
I hope you will get the kind of stalls where the horses can see their neighbours (through vertical bars) in their bordering stalls. 😊
You have found a gem! You will thrive here!
I mean this in the best way possible, but I am so happy that the other new build did not turn out because this is a dream!
Super excited for you!! What a big project to tackle. Really looking forward to seeing how it turns out.
Your new home and land is beautiful. I'm excited to watch the renovation!
I didnt think it could get any better and them you mention the trails. Wow. What a dream!
It’s going to be absolutely breathtaking when completed. Congratulations to you both. Enjoy your new home.
More, more, more, loving this journey.
Love all the flowers and old trees ❤❤❤
You managed to find exactly what you needed to create your actual life dream! Wow, so special! How many people in the world achieve this? Thanks for letting us come along....very excited to see your plans start coming together!❤❤
Fantastic! This will be an ever evolving labor of love! It is a gorgeous property! The house is so beautiful and the barn is terrific! The surrounding property
Is perfect for your new life here! The horses are going to have a dreamy life !
